I don't know how old that ball was, but even way back in the 70's they were that hard rubber ball wrapped in elastic. My brothers used to cut them open just for the rubber balls. Did those suckers ever BOUNCE!
Cut that ball open . It's full of liquid. They were when u was a kid. This video brought back a lot of memories from the 70s. My dad had a great vice and a hack saw. And that kept us occupied for days . Until he showed us how to out throwing stars from sheet metal with metal sheers
My nephew and I did this years ago and when we streched the strand of elastic as far as we dared it was the length of a row of 10 or 11 houses! It may have streched more but we chickened out at that point.
Yes, I did it too and got about 12 houses and it broke, I'd guess about 600 feet. It looks like it would be miles long if you could get it off in one piece!
Thanks for finally answering my childhood question. I saw a group of kids in summer school in my single digits as well unraveling the rubber band type golf ball and was puzzled at how long the rubber string was. They never finished as the recess bell rang and they all split and left for class. I never got around to dissecting one myself but thanks for helping to do it online! Very satisfying ... and can close the chapter in my mind’s library of unanswered questions 🤣🤣🤣 by the way I was cringing while watching you use the carpet knife on the ball. I was praying to God “please don’t let him split open his finger!” 😛
I'm assuming your a female and did not want to see the guy cut himself I'm sure most guys were hoping to see some blood in an otherwise a bit boring video.🤣🤣😂😂😂🤯🤯
Thank you for a great video. About how long is the rubber string? My older brother and I dissected a ball when we were in our single digits in age. I wrapped the band around and around and around the house to get an idea of length. At that age my determination was that the rubber string was very long and frustrated my perplexed dad quite a bit when he battled his way out the springy door to call us in for mac and cheese. I sure would appreciate it if you could give me a reasonable estimate of the actual length of that rubber string.
That's a good question. I love your story! I can tell you I never really tried to keep it intact and stretch it out before to take a measurement. I"m sure some calculation could be made regarding the length, but probably they all vary based on the manufacturer and the thickness of the rubber..
In the early 60's golf balls had a liquid center. I cut one open and the blue liquid spewed out and got on my face and the ceiling! I washed my face immediately not knowing what it was made of. Pain in the butt to clean up!
Yes and the once the unraveling of the rubber string got started, it kept going by itself, buzzing and jumping as if it was alive. It was so fascinating to us very young kids. Then the rubber ball, filled with liquid in the center. Strong rubber smell. It all seemed slightly dangerous somehow.
I opened a golf ball when I was 12 yrs old in 1969 and there was a small wood cube followed by the same rubberbands in this video, I'm guessing afterwards they went to the rubber ball but I'm curious as to what year was that golf ball from one other bit of info my ball came from a golf club in South America.
The golf balls we cut open in the 80s and 90s exploded they were way better then that one. They were packed so tight no little that rubber band ball they were packed not wrapped. They would expode as you cut into them. What happened why are golf balls so weak now? The rubber band ball you’re showing us is nothing compared to most back then. W
I'm gonna predict before the ending here. I did this when I was a teenager and it was a red, pea sized squishy sphere that was filled with some sticky, gooey liquid.
