I recently had a chance to visit a home made out of galvanized iron sheets, commonly known as 'mabati' in Kenya, and other Swahili speaking countries.
The interior of this special house got me thinking... how about we embraced alternative house construction options, such as mabati exteriors, aside from the traditional means we have been used to, over the years?
In this edition, I extensively cover both the interior and exterior of a Mabati home that is wonderfully made, alongside food sustainability activities that the family in question had running, after successfully completing the construction of their mabati house.
Much of what could have been used in more costly house construction options, shall be diverted into income generating activities within and without the compound. Such as oil production from sunflower seeds, poultry and dairy goat farming and vegetable farming.
I had a wonderful time and picked a lot of lessons from this humble home.
I look forward to feature even more of the future plans for this mabati homeowners on this channel.
