TBoy205 under neath the robots there is another floor and on that floor employees are organizing orders and placing them in crates for the robots to take and organize. Also in the video it shows that the robots are just rolling around the grid but what they are actually doing is organizing order, picking, and packing orders. The video doesn’t show very good detail of what they are doing but most of the operations that you can visually see is under neath the robots on the floor below them.

Yeah. I just found this channel today and have been rummaging through the video selection and although there are many videos that seem interesting, I found pretty much all of the ones I tried so far to be uninformative and disappointing. They all have this weird smoke and mirrors BS thing going on, where they seem to try to hide the fact that they deliver almost no actual information with a lot of repetitive video material of shit moving around. What I mean is, I don't just have the feeling of having watched a badly made video, I get the feeling some scammer is trying to bamboozle me and jingle a set of keys in front of my eyes, like I'm a baby. There seems to be a weird and counter intuitive market on RU-vid, of science and tech themed videos, made for really low IQ people. I don't get it. Are people who are too dumb to notice how bad, hollow and empty those videos are, really that interested in this science and tech stuff?

The robots pick up the crates and carry them inside their bodies. It's not hidden as such, just that no-one thought of making them transparent. You can see them reaching down into the crates, at some points. They're not "just rolling around", they're pick and packing. The more and faster they move crates, the more efficient the warehouse is.

Imagine a single robot with 1000 arms. Now imagine those arms are not arms, but just extensions of itself that it can interact with the world via, now imagine they're wireless. It's a single AI mind controlling a disjointed body, uses lasers to detect when it moves past a square on the grid and the AI tells its body how far to move, when to stop, what it should see, what it should do. If it sees something other than predicted beneath it, it investigates and waits for new instructions.

They're basically wireless unrigged claw-machine arms with eyes operated by a an AI. Each tile of the grid has items under it, they deposit, organise and collect items in order to fulfil orders.

Can they carry more than one item at once? Where do the orders get dropped off? This video didn't answer basic questions...

@@Rickyroko I am a driver for Ocado and they've just opened one of these warehouses, also known as CFC's (Customer Fulfillment Center) in Bristol. From what i know about this is, yes the robots pick the shopping from the grid below and then it's taken to a member of staff on a filling station that packs all the shopping into bags.

It is like in a normal warehouse with people doing it, robots have assigned an station and, that station has assigned a list of items. Robots pick up an item and drop it into a tote

It is like the Amazon robotic fulfillment centers with robots moving shelfs. Each bot moves one tote filled with all of the same item. The totes for one order are all collected together in one long line. At the pick station, the item(s) from the totes are place into the customer order. The totes returns to the grid via the robots. By the way, the pick stations are primarily humans and not robots like shown in this video. Robots are currently not good at handling things like eggs. It should be also noted that each spot in the grid can be up to 7 totes deep (all of the same item).

except when their warehouse burns down because no one was onsite to notice the fire. lol.

its weird that this set-up only has one layer of storage units, these systems normally go the whole way from the roof down to the floor with just enough space at the top for the robots to move. some robots can sink down to lower layers

Some people say that AI should be considered part of humanity's commons, and all individuals should benefit from a fraction of the wealth AI will produce. Einstein didn't produce his theory of relativity in a vacuum, he needed teachers, school administrators, cleaning ladies, garbage men, sewage cleaners, etc etc. If you take baby Einstein and drop him in the middle ages he would grow up working hard for a piece of bred and a good nights sleep, instead of having the luxury to ponder mathematics - and he would very much agree with this, since he wrote extensively about social matters like equality and justice, even saying that he isn't so much different from the people locked up in the mental asylum across the street - he certainly didn't consider himself meritorious in the way some folks consider themselves. This is not the norm but will probably be the norm in the future. Most warehouses still require people to sort out and organise the orders.

Highly unlikely to form future warehouse needs. Ocado doesn't sell or own product. It's just a fulfilment agent. Most warehouses have to hold significant stocks to either fulfil internet or retail operations, or both, so space is the key to efficiency and this system simply doesn't meet those requirements taking up massive swathes of area that looks unoccupied in many places. You store vertically, not horizontally, to maximise space use. And pack bin storage to the brim not loosely as these are. A fulfilment agent NOT a retail warehousing or internet warehousing operation.

AutoStore is a TL-ASRS and maintains a global average uptime of 99.7%. An AutoStore system has error handling software that sections off a portion of the grid when a robot has an unrecoverable fault and the rest of the system is allowed to continue operations. Some issues do trigger a system shutdown, like when the robot loses communication with the wireless access points, but those are quickly resolved by removing the robot to the maintenance bay. Naturally this isn't total automation since the system still requires human monitoring and intervention, but it still delivers impressive throughout and scales well.

I presume it would be a massive set up cost but pays for itself over the years. No sickness, no wages. It's the future, all the boring shit jobs will be automated.

The problem is though that this is taking low skilled work from the poorest parts of society who are then demonised for being on benefits when they can't get a job, assuming you they are in a country that even pays benefits/welfare. Nobody ever considers the fact that as we further introduce this you are going to increase the numbers pushed on to welfare as the jobs dry up unless we start to rethink how we will find a way for those unable to get jobs to survive. After all look how many people were actually operating those thousands of machines instead of all those machines being an employee. Meantime the companies pocket even bigger profits with lower wage bills to pay and the rich get richer again. Let's be honest, they've never been too fussed about how average joe on the streets survives.

1:20 video never said 4G network, it said 4G technology. Local networks can use 4G as well. Ionly way to cover such a large area reliably with all the metal structure and beams. Wi-Fi would have deadspots or require complicated system of switches and access points. Easier to put up 2 or 3 cell transmitters

Why not use AI and upload the order to the robot on it delivering its load? I've seen a lecture theatre on RU-vid with drones flying around like bees who don't collide. To me the system on display hasn't embraced AI either due to costs or incompetence in the procurement process. It's the need to hold onto the scanner pick methodology when paper picking thought should have been embraced. Too many management imbeciles in this industry to make progress on any meaningful level.

Keep in mind they're working to a budget so problems are bound to show themselves sooner or later. They could add more fail safes and more redundancy but it adds more setup costs. They rolled the dice a bit, did something no other company were doing at the time and had a couple of setbacks.

How so? It takes humans to engineer, program, build, and maintain these robots. Jobs of labor is not the future. Jobs of intelligence and technology is. People need to adapt.
