Dr. Joy Simmons set out in 1992 to design an art-filled home in L.A. in which to raise her two young daughters. She was a practicing radiologist and an art collector, who today has amassed one of the most important collections of African American art in the country. Joy’s house reflects her passion for her family, art, and her love of life.

Exactly and even if she meant diversity as in ethnicity, this collector is curating a collection of black female artists so your comment being about « collecting art knows no ethnicity/ gender or whatever » is clearly not true in this case... This woman is collecting art her own personal way with her ethnicity and gender in mind... and good for her! Stop being offended for no f****** reason and jumping to conclusions just because you want to sound overly polically correct all the time, it’s ridiculous.

I am in total AWE of her creative eye and process that went into creating her home. It is definitely an urban art museum in its own right and it all flows so beautifully together. I would love to be a guest in her home one day to really appreciate it in person.

Oh I love the mural on the back patio! I love that graphic colorful 90s style of it featuring the young black girls playing. I can imagine her daughters playing there when they were kids!

@@carlalb6182 To be honest I think the home owner was alluding to having "white walls" - that's why her home is so colorful and whimsical. I think we ALL should be happy with how we were created and be proud of who we are. After all we are all in this thing together (on earth) and we all want to be happy and I would think get along with folks of ALL cultures.

I'd like to just sit and create in it for ONE DAY. LOL. This was beautiful. Shout to New York Magazine for featuring this VERY BLACK HOME. It gave me soooo much life and inspiration. In my opinion this home with its clean lines and neutral walls and natural light, provide an ideal environment for her colourful art collection, but there's also a visual overcrowding so it is harder to appreciate them individually when they're in close competition with each other.
