I visited a video game shop in India that started in the 80s. Watch as we tour Babu's Video Games and go to his workshop to see where he mods and repairs consoles. He also shows us his massive retro gaming collection, including many rare retro games from Nintendo's Game & Watch, NES, SNES, and N64 systems. It brought back a lot of nostalgia from my childhood as a Super Nintendo gamer!
I also decided to get back into the Nintendo ecosystem after hearing so many people rave about The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (2017). And I wanted to try all the other Nintendo-exclusive games I missed over the years like Metroid Prime Remastered. So at the end of the video, I bought a Nintendo Switch OLED. Now I'm ready for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (2023)!
Update: I revisited Babu and went deeper into his story and collection • Inside an Indian Video... .
Update: How's the Nintendo Switch been? I fell in love again with handheld gaming! I can game anywhere while travelling and catch up on many older games I missed. It's been an excellent addition to my Xbox Series X and PS5. I'm looking at the Steam Deck next.
Babu's Video Games (बाबू वीडियो गेम्स) is located in the beautiful and chilled-out city of Pune, India. Pune is a sprawling city in the western state of Maharashtra, known for its rich history, vibrant culture, and beautiful architecture. It is also a hub of education and technology, making it a popular destination for students and professionals.

Babu is where I'd love to see myself in 30-40 years. Still rocking, still loving tinkering and fixing up all types of gaming consoles in his workshop. I love it. What stands out to me the most is his gaming collection. They're clearly worn down but that's because he clearly gets that these gaming consoles were meant to be USED. To be PLAYED with and not just sitting preserved in a shiny clear case. Each one of those gameboys and game and watches has stories behind them and I love that 💖

Fun fact: The NES was sold in India as the Samurai due to a partnership between Nintendo and a local businessman who wanted to bring the console to the subcontinent. That unfortunately did not pan out due to low sales; the Samurai brand was later reused for a line of Famiclones which used the Famicom cartridge form factor.

Let me honest most of the people in India didn't even knew about SNES. If you ask anyone most people say we played Mario contra means they played fake nes consoles and i also played back in 1998 till 2005 and in the name handheld we played brick video game Most Indians didn't knew existance of Gameboy. Yes PlayStation was popular but in shops nobody has Ps1 back then untill PS2 came in 2005 till 2012 in India that's why PlayStation is popular here on the other hand Xbox sales were very bad because there was no repair shops no warrenty. So technically Only Sony Playstation is legitimate available. Nintendo stuff is full of grey market from 90s till now. Most people here didn't knew there was Mario 64 exists in 90s untill we knew through internet.

Hi Karl. I'm an nz'er too, living in Nepal. When I visited Delhi last I was intrigued by the arcade parlors there. Classic 80s & 90s games still rockin' it in small arcades same like back in the day. Snow Bros seemed to be one of the most popular games, bizarrely.

Here in Canada they are all gone except for maybe a rare few who have been able to survive. There are some retro gaming sellers popping up in retro toy places but they are a thing of the past.
