I went to visit China's sneaker city, Jinjiang, to see what Chinese sneaker factories look like. I didn't end up seeing as many sneakers as I had hoped, but it WAS an adventure...

Thanks for all the support and great ideas on the last video. I finally feel like my head is back into making videos, and I'm excited to make new things and tell new stories! I wasn't sure if this trip to the sneakers city was going to be a video, but I thought you guys might like to see it, even if I didn't see as much as I would have liked to. It's really cool seeing you branch into new areas! I'm a techhead (by training) myself, but never really considered something like a "sneaker market" existing, even though it obviously makes sense in retrospect. It's not impossible elsewhere. There are fabric stores in a lot of places, and you can use a lot of stuff for the sole, but having all the proper stuff nearby could still be useful.

mein Kanal Your local fabric supply store will always have a limited selection in stock. This kind supply chain store for fabric & shoe accessories is unique only to China. There’s not a lot of places outside China where you could just walk into any industrial supply store to get absolutely anything you need.

It's just amazing how they make a city for each product. I get the feeling that if you start a business in China, you will already have a supply chain set up for almost anything you want to build.

Its great while a product is popular, but if there are any changes in the market or a certain product is no longer in demand it could lead to the end of a city and bankrupt a lot of people. Thats a big reason why its not found in the west.

I'm an orthopedic shoemaker and I recently received my package of a 50x130cm sized piece of glossy silver faux leather from China, interesting to see where it may have come from! Wish I could provide sound advice about making uppers, but that's its own line of work.

I always love watching your videos, I was a huge nerd that hung out at swap meets and flea markets just to see what was out there but *man* I had no idea you could scale that up to like 100,000 and narrow down that focus to individual items (or even parts of those items in this case). Anthony De Sousa Barros There’s plenty of vendors listed in Alibaba. You just need to order a minimum of at least a 100 pair of shoes to make it worth their time. I don’t think Bespoke sneakers is a thing in China.

My father used to work at the market of sneakers here in Brazil, when China started producing it all locals stores broke, and only luxury brands survived, in a matter of 10 years. I used to live in a city that was known as shoes city, haha

Really love these videos and seeing how different things are put together. The walking around checking out stores is something I love to do myself when travelling, just always feel weird doing it like I am wasting their time cause I am not buying and cannot explain that I want to learn. If you don't work with fabric all the time it is easy to get wrong. I grew up metric (in Germany), but I still get it wrong (usually underestimated) whenever I buy fabric - you simply need a lot of experience to estimate how big a bundle will be, because it not only depends on legth but also on width, thickness and stiffness... ...so, Scotty's problems were 100% relatable to me.

Thanks for this video. I know it's not your usual tech-focused tour, but many of us tech-heads are also sneaker-heads, so I think this has a lot of potential. Most sneaker channels talk about the finished branded products from Nike, Adidas, etc. You're going to the source of where the materials come from to construct them. I think there's huge potential if you can partner with a sneaker-head channel. Thanks again!!

cork could also be insoles, i have a pair of Flower Mountains (Italian brand) that is covered with Japanese fabric and have cork insoles. (can google Flower Mountain Pampas 2)

the first couple of minutes were parts of my favorites. As you're wandering around discovering the lay of the land and finding little gems of the journey. You found some uppers, some heels, laces and the shoe tongues. This is all the foreplay before the big reveal. My favorite bits for sure.

Your market tours are always great, just seeing the huge choice of things available in one place/area is staggering. Leaves you to wonder what else is hiding there behind closed doors that you did not get to see or explore. And thats just shoe stuff, not exactly a topic I'd say captivates me, but its still cool to see that vast range of products.
