As a Hindu I would like to thank you for covering this case in a balanced manner. Very often when discussing Hinduism, creators add salacious or exotic details. You actually explained Shiva pretty well. I don't know where himu and hansa got this ritual idea though because it is not common to do such rituals and the vast majority of temples only give fruit sacrifices and even animal meat is strictly forbidden in temples. My guess is that they wanted to give a human sacrifice for some gain for their family. Very tragic they ended their lives this way.

@@architbhagat In Nepali Hinduism, animal sacrifices in temples (and even in the home) are very common, especially during the Dashain festival. I didn’t realise these practices were so rare in India.

Yes I heard this story because vinchhiya was my actual village where my forefathers used to live(not now) When I came up with this story and I researched a bit about it then I realised that it was actually known as a "Kamal Pooja"(Lotus ritual). It has actually been performed by sacrificing a couple's life. Many incidents have occurred in india in several other villages. It used to be performed for better life, money and other prosperity. It is totally a black magic ritual which they performed. And yes it is not even considerable as a ritual in Hinduism and also strictly banned in the religion. Idk why people are still being superstitious. Why are they still falling for such things to perform. Superstition is still the major issue of the rural area in India.

Yet what they tried to appease was Shiva a hindu god and the couple that practiced it r hindus.. so this practice is ingrained in Hindu rituals, whether superstition or not. The basis is hindu belief system. I know other practices where d devotees eat dead corpses and shit as a part of worship of Shiva it is Is is considered as d ultimate form of worship. I'm so very sorry this poor family had to suffer over such a tragedy. I can't imagine why this couple decided to perform such a rutial. It almost makes me wonder if they were feeling desprate or if they longed so much for more material possesions that they were willing to do anything to get them. I truly hope that was not what this was about but we can only guess what their motives were for doing something like this. It's so heartbreaking knowing that these children must have been traumatized in a way we can't even imagine. I just hope they grew up to still lead healthy lives after that. I hope they didn't decide to follow in their parents' footsteps and do the same thing.

This kind of ritual is still going on in India. Have you heard about the 14 years old girl beaten up to death and then raped in front of the parents in a village to get rich by harvesting good in their field after this sacrifice. 😔

Take it from someone who was born in India as a hindu. EVERY HUMAN, even the atheist ones need someplace to devote their life, muslims Christians do it as well. Shiva god is a complex deity, people see him through their eyes with whatever knowledge they posses and tbh I have no issue calling this couple uneducated cause if they choose suicide in such a way it shows they were truly religious extremists. They could have eaten some poison or whatnot but they really choose this way as a devotion to God, their children will probably have better life now India has a big population and most people have big well connected families. When things like this happens it is more likely that children actually does better then their parents because of so many factors contributing so in the end the wish might actually come true for this couple. But damn, that's unbelievably scary and children are scarred for life. Hope they don't turn psychopaths. Uneducation, superstition is still only rampant in villages but happens rarely as time moves forward .

Man I feel so bad for those kids, they came home to see their parents dead in the most gruesome way and never even got an explanation. I know the parents probably did this ritual hoping for luck/wealth/a better life for their children, but the only thing they got is lifetime trauma

I am not someone who has ever really been scared of death.When my kids were growing up I always hoped if I ended up being murdered please don't let them find me. My son even though he is an adult now he would never be able to handle it. To actually kill yourself knowing your kids will likely be the one's to find you is absolutely reprehensible.

I can’t thank you enough for starting your foundation. My aunt and uncle were the victims of a violent home invasion where they were beaten and shot (both are alive and well). But afterwards there wasn’t any support for them. The only thing they received was a few counseling sessions and a realtor with no fees (if they wanted to sell their house). Wish there was more support for people that go through such traumatic experiences.

That rate he was going at was unhealthy even for the regular content creator. No one can pump out 3-5 videos a week with constant quality. Better to have one video a week rather than none.

Yeah this is a pretty hard one to enjoy. I enjoy his cave diving series, and other misfortunate deaths, such as crocodiles or going missing never to be seen again. But this was dark and scary. It feels connected to something evil. It makes me uneasy.

I’m glad that I’m not the only one who doesn’t quite find any “enjoyment” or really entertainment from this one. To me it sounds like a “basic”(if there is such a thing) religious sacrifice. Sure an exceptional one, but still there’s no mystery beyond that of why. We clearly know who, we know that there apparently wasn’t any reason why aside from their admission of self sacrifice. And truly to leave that for their children to find was something they could have done better. Think of those children and how long and intense the effects of this will follow them.

This story is so infuriating! I am a retired litigator. My expertise was child welfare. Meaning that my primary clients were children in foster care, kids who needed for somebody to tell the judge how they felt about the case and what they wanted to happen. Most of these children had a history of trauma, even if it was just the trauma that they couldn’t be with their parents at the time. But often much worse including living with their parents’ alcohol and drug addiction, seeing a sibling die from domestic violence… and on and on and on--horribly dark things that children experience. I do not know what kind of parents would kill themselves in such a horrible way KNOWING! That the people who would find their bodies were their vulnerable children who would see that image over and over again for the rest of their lives. I try not to hate people. But this is making me feel very HATEY!

You’re definitely right, but they kind of have to be out of their minds to do something like this. I mean, to do it at all…like, maybe they were really depressed or broke, but knowing the burden you’re passing to children…idk how you get to that point. So to do it, happily…and not really consider what the death of BOTH their partners could potentially do to the children, let alone the children FINDING THEIR DECAPITATED BODIES…you have to be completely insane. Religion can make people do some insane things, but they were also clearly a little fkd in the head. Which would explain why they didn’t care about the kids finding them…they probably thought the kids would somehow understand. Again, clearly out of their minds.

I agree with this statement and will also be donating but I want to add that although I've watched every video Mr.Ballen that has been posted that even now I'll actually watch,pay attention to all your ads. I find the ads as interesting as the stories sometimes and although I've never had alot I know that I'm blessed to have the basics. A clean,safe roof over my head, enough food and just enough for a vacation once a year or one big item purchase. Like alot of ppl I live payday to payday but I've always loved to help others out whenever I can however I can. $1 can truly make a difference to a person in need and even a kind word which costs nothing can help. Thanks once again for the great story and a special thanks to everyone who donates to this amazing charity.

The trauma inflicted upon those children, and then the medical and police who also had to deal with that, will linger for a lifetime. They will never be able to un-see it. Such a selfish, cruel and demonic thing to do. I love your story telling John! Please start to put two stories out a week, one is just not enough!! 🕊♥️🇨🇦🕊

He used to put out multiple a week but what the viewers don't understand is how difficult and time consuming it is to create/edit multiple videos. He has a family and it was pulling him away from them, so he went from 4-5 a week to 2-3. (Not to mention also adding shorter videos on facebook) Then when people started becoming more interested in podcasts he started a podcast and went down to 1 video a week on youtube. On top of running his foundation and trying to have a normal family life. He works his ass off to provide content for everyone and does a damn good job at it.

It might be regional, but there is help for victims of crime. In California, it’s called “victim/witness” and provides therapy, and in some cases (a hit and run car crash, for instance), monetary reparation.
