I'm currently in my final year engineering. Which is better civil services or MBA(corporate life) ? 1. I want good work life balance. 2. Own house 3. Should not think twice to buy good things(not luxurious). Seeing future(upcoming pandemics, recessions) what is better to join?
Hey I am not the best person to give you advice on this, because I don't know much about Civil services to guide you. But in the initial days of the corporate, it would be really difficult to strike the balance between personal and professional life. Financial independence will be gained over time.
i have a sister from IIM A and a friend who is IAS. IAS work life balance is not that good compared to corporate. you may spend 2 years of corporate to establish yourself first but in civil service it gets more hectic. money is definitely better in corporate unless you earn by illegal means in Civil service. My neighbour is a medium rank officer in PWD and he gets 2-3 lakh by illegal means but overall the environment in govt jobs unless you are grade A officer is kinda depressing to me. I think house thing is subjective cause most of the corporates live in big cities but govt jobs provide great salary in tier 2 or tier 3 cities. I am from Tier 3 city and a govt school principal here earn above 1 lakh after tax with other benefits extra. It depends on your choice thou , job security is better in govt and some jobs like in Police have 0 work lie balance trust me. I prefer corporate as my family is filled with govt. officials and in future hybrid work system would prevail so i could work and travel at the same time.
