Thank you both! I want to address the physicality of the South American teams and the frequent fouls on Messi. Many reported Messi complained to the Uruguayan referee about the numerous fouls and the lack of punishment. It's clear that the Chilean team came with a mission: to block Messi using 3-4 players. They are aware of his muscle issue in his upper right leg and targeted him, which is unfair because it could end his football career... Specifically, players #2 and #16 from Chile were involved. Fortunately, Messi seems to be okay after the game, but he definitely needs rest.

If you’re watching the matches I don’t think it’s very accurate reporting to say there’s any drop off in Messi‘s performance, absent the injury obviously. He’s been involved in every goal Argentina has scored through the first two matches and he also plays a clearly different role on the Argentinian national team than ge does on Inter Miami where they rely on him more heavily to score. He’s created the most big chances out of anybody in Copa America or Euros with only two matches played and lacked on a couple of finishes against Canada but you can hardly hold that against him. He’ll be ready to go for the quarterfinals and will continue to be the Messi we know and love, we should stop pushing narratives that goals are the only meaningful way to contribute in football, statistics are important but winning and the eye test will always be superior
