Playlist: Bloopers and Deleted Scenes From Jojo Rabbit 2019: • Playlist Is an appealing featurette with some good interviews, if an at times kind of "arty" style. Documentary from Jojo Rabbit 2019 Blu-ray
I loved the part where Rosie calls Jojo "My little Shitler". I died laughing because despite having no choice to let Jojo go down this horrible road, she has the common sense and intelligence to make sure he keeps his feet on the ground and has a childhood--no matter how bleak the circumstances.
i dont know what you all believe in but i believe in Jesus Christ, you may believe in Him as well, if you do, i hope you are where you need to be with Him, if you arent i hope you will accept him into your life, you may know the the story already, but He willingly died for everybody, and that includes you, if you are wondering if something is sinful look up Scripture about it online (i recommend the King James Version), i hope you read The Bible, and find a good church, ill leave you with some Scripture, Colossians 3:8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Romans 8:39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Luke 6:31 And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.
I love, love, love this movie. I think the line, from the movie that sums it up so well is "You're not a nazi, your just a 10 year old boy who likes dressing up in funny costumes and wants to belong to a club".
Did anyone else notice that Taika constantly framed Rosie's shoes, like in the scene where she is stood on the wall, so that when * that scene * happens, we immediately know that it is her. it's a really neat way of foreshadowing that I just love
Taika is a GENIUS he makes a grown man cry like a little child each and every time he even thinks about this movie. me. I'm that grown man. I love this movie so much. so so much.
This movie is so important to me, and deeply personal as someone having family from both Germany and the Jewish people being persecuted in the war. It’s a story about so much love, finding a way to survive in the darkest conditions, and I was blessed to see so much thought put into such a historically driven movie. It helped me grow after a rather stark experience in my life, and I’m so happy that it exists.
It’s incredibly important to me as well, I’m Dutch-American and Jewish, all of my family was still in the Netherlands during the Nazi occupation. I definitely connected with my heritage through this film quite a bit.

This movie has been a different movie every time Iʻve watched it. The first time I watched it, I cried until it took me someplace beyond tears, then laughed for almost the entire length of the second viewing. Different sets of themes have stood out each time through, since. Itʻs typical for me to watch a movie I love more than once, and a big part of what I like about movies is being able to get more out of them each time. But this is different, in a way Iʻd never seen before, from any other director, writer, or actor. Much less one person being all three at once.
I don't really watch much t.v. let alone movies, and when I do I never feel like I need to watch them any more than once.. I did manage to watch Jojo Rabbit recently... It is the only movie I feel like I need to watch again.

Watched this movie yesterday for the first time, and I am shocked. I was expecting a film full of humor and comedy, and taking the subject matter very lightly ... but instead I got a funny, but very emotionally heavy story full of themes and nuance. Not many movies make me cry, but this one did. The relationships of Jojo between both Rosa and Elsa hit me hard, and Its easily my favorite element of the film!
I like the fact that it shows the time but also making sure no Neonazi can use the movie as propaganda because all the nazis are portrayed as stupid embarrassing idiots. That's always a risk in movies inspired by real events, making bad people seem too likeable so that it makes people want to agree with them.

My mom said this was definitely one of the best movies she's ever watched, which is truly saying something. This is also one of my favorite movies for sure.
I don’t get how people found this movie offensive. Most of what I read was about how Hitler was portrayed. I’m losing my mind thing that it’s not Hitler, it’s what a kid imagine what Hitler would be like. He’s an imaginary friend, I’m losing my mind on how people are dead set on being upset at everything.
And also the subtle hints that he didn’t actually support the Nazis (he didn’t do anything about it but still). With the Operation Paperclip reference and his expressions, such an interesting character.
i had a big cry about 2 days after i saw the movie cause i realized theres an entire generation of kids that were universally hated for something that was out of their control and that they didnt understand themselves.
Perhaps the most formidable, beautifully woven sad scene ever. The butterfly scene. Blew me away with its beauty and tragedy. Cannot think of it without flooding my eyes.
there are many scenes that had me dying laughing but the "German Shepherds" just KILLED ME ...that was soooo damn funny and then when the nazi dude was like "sorry for yelling, it is a stupid name for a dog" LOL
Finally watched the movie and wow, what a beautiful creation full of laughter, tears and provocative depictions of humanity, history and all their absurdities
I'll be honest, when i first saw the trailers I thought it was disgusting that they were making a comedy about world war two. After a few years I actually watched it. This movie is brilliant. It does have it's funny parts but it also is very emotional. I love the way it was done and I appreciate that it's something new.
As a kiwi I still feel disappointed it wasn't filmed out here. I understand budget constraints I'm concerned that our Taika will lose who he is culturally and be sucked into Hollywood. I don't want to lose our funny Viago
@meb Plenty of big budget Hollywood movies are made in NZ, take the new Avatar movies or Mulan for example. The only reason this was filmed in Europe and not NZ is that the sets would have been costlier to build from scratch. NZ tends to be more cost effective than the US thanks to our generous tax subsidies (the same reason so many films/series are made in Canada)
My mother didn't like this movie, nor did her boyfriend. Mostly because they didn't read anything about the movie, even on the cinema page. They just bought tickets without knowing anything so they expected a tragic history documentary. That's like hating steak because you thought they were serving you stale bread, and I don't get it. (Disclaimer: I don't dislike history documentaries. Quite the contrary actually.)
I absolutely loved this movie and I’ll tell you why the dynamics that change between characters the comedy, dark comedy and drama made it when the best independent movies, I have had the pleasure of watching in many years
"The world needs ridiculous films because the world is ridiculous." Damn, Waititi. I LOVE war movies, but this is by far the best one I've seen. Masterpiece. 👏
why aren't behind the scenes and making of's never actually those things? It would be so much more interesting to actually see what it says on the tin.
To keep these historical events alive and relevant we need new ways to tell people what happened and this movie is the perfect example of a great way to execute that story telling. The humour perfectly frames the intense, serious parts and forces the audience, who is sutured to Jojo, to reflect on how abhorrent Nazi Germany was.
A movie embodying the very best and worst of humanity. Being able to think for yourself and be critical of immoral ideas. Thank you for this wonderful movie ❤️
Particularly prescient after the invasion of Ukraine. The message of the film will always be needed to be heard. Great film thoroughly enjoyed it it resonated with me, terrific doc on the making.
First, the Death of Stalin made the brutality of the Stalin Soviet era hilarious. Beria and his lists. Stalin with a cockney accent. Steve Buscemi as Nikolai Khrushchev (best character IMHO). Omg...Rupert Friend as Stalins son... brilliant. The...Jojo Rabbit comes along and almost makes Hitler a likeable character. I said almost! By far though... My favorite portrail of Hitler ever lol. The line about "that one eyed Pirate Von Stauffenberg.... That one caught me off guard and had me rolling laughing and these days...films just don't seem to do that anymore. Nothing but lowest common denominator crass and simple minded jokes. The silly jokes in this film are just so well delivered by a great cast. The three main kids....wow. Just a fantastic job, especially for such young actors. Little Yorkie...just steals scenes. Perfect straight man! "I need a cuddle". He's the kind of character you wish had more scenes. Sam Rockwell has become one of my favorites. Get the sense he's not really acting all that much lol. A very well written story performed by a talented cast. I actually bougt this movie on RU-vid. I don't do that often. Wes Anderson movies and Guy Richie...only two directors I think are worthy of my honor...lol. This is a movie that's great to have on after seeing a few times, in the background while doing other things. Can cheer ya up. With so much crap coming from Hollywood the last decade or so. Movies getting oscars that no one actually watches. Zero originality. Its the independents that really remind you why movies are made in the first place. Take you away for an hour or two...make you think about the word. Help ya understand that...we all have so much in common and our disputes... They are small and petty in the grand scheme of things. Or...maybe to remind you when you think your life sucks... Imagine what it was like to ve a jewish girl in Nazi Germany or a 10 year old boy that just wants to fit in.... And the club is Nazis that killed your mother. Yea... You don't have it so hard after all...huh.
When I was watching the movie and trailer, I couldn't see any real historical accuracy. So I dident get my eyes burned out. Even some lines about the uniforms and how they where made out of cardboard. Everything from the tactics to the nitty gritty. .Just AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH
Rereading my comment makes me feel like I didn't look through what I wrote enough times to get the message across. That being I love how historically accurate the movie is
True artists are often unable to understand their own masterpieces. This movie captures the one thing the world has never been able to learn. Unaware - it would seem - to the genius who created it.
Directors: Michael Bay: Let's blow shit up! James Cameron: Let's blow the budget! Christopher Nolan: Let's blow people's minds! Taika Waititi: Let's have fun!
I don't think Taika gives himself enough credit. He states his portrayal of Hitler as himself just acting "stupid". Hitler had his enemies hung by piano wire and filmed them so he could watch them die and laugh about their agony. You can see in Taika's performance that part of Hitler too.
Holy shit, Rachel House, Roman's acting coach here plays Moana's grandmother, and a movie where Taika was originally supposed to direct. It's great how he really brings in polynesian actors
@@Nygaard2 I prefer to start with the worst killers, and go down from there. The Commie kill score far exceeds the kill score of any other ideology, including Naziism.
@Calvin Dodge Nope. Christianity has that “honor”. You could even argue that capitalism has been the most deadly ideology ever, since wealth has often been the real motivating factor behind even religious wars. Difference with Nazis (and some religious people) is that killing another group of people is part of the STATED goal, making them real arseholes no matter how you cut it.
"I believe there is a communist hiding behind my fridge. We did some searching and discovered it was just some mold." I found that to be one of the more funnier jokes.
It's funny because it's a relief. You expect to hear the gruesome details of how they executed people, but no, he's playing with the expectations. That's comedy: Your heart is being freed from what was pulling it down.
tarmaque and when Rosie says “they did what they could” in regards to the people who were hanged and then Rosie dressed as her husband says “she [Rosie] is doing what she can” ...
@@travelerforever8849 nope. making a nazi satire now is being very late to the party. Do something relevant like ISIS or Trump? tsss chaplin already did this in the 40s
Scarlett Johansson deserved all the awards for this role, what a brilliantly heartbreaking portrayal of one of the best moments of her unparalleled career, she's truly one of the greats
I wonder why at the end of the movie we don't see her getting raped by the entire soviet army that she was all too excited to be "liberated" by. Would be more historically accurate
Was she a good mum, though? I've had long conversations with friends about this. She seems perfect, but - ultimately - she left him orphaned as a result of her actions. Couldn't imagine another actor doing better... 🤔

As a German myself, I like the profanity that is expressed here. My grand uncle volonteered for U-Boot, because it was his changse to escape his boring, little town life. Many germans were just seeing a personal career change, like Werner von Braun. The evil does not require a lot of evel people. you just have to create a system, where everybody is motivated to do evel things.
@@dffndjdjd Yes. You are right about von Brauns Bio. He knew about the KZ-slave labour. But many other German companys did use labour as well. E.g. BMW requested extra KZ, just for exploiting workers in there factury. So this leeds me to the conclusion, that it is not about the individual company boss beeing extraodenaraly cold harded, but about a system of just don't caring about slave labour and only seeing personal profit.
@@dffndjdjd I don't defend von Braun. He war a cold, egocentric scientist. But i think in every coutry the distribution of those cold people is more or less the same. So you have to have a system that prevents those people from exploiting others. I think this systematic problem is displaid well in the Film. The protagonist only learns empathy with jews throu a personal relationship and his rebel parents. But if not, he also could have ended as a german KZ guard.
Yeah, and it's good that the movie portrays them as people. Because it is people that do evil things, and anyone has that capacity. If you purely demonize them you won't recognize evil when it comes to your doorsteps, and you may even lead some people to feel betrayed when they realized they've been lied to, Nazis weren't entirely evil demons, the average guy had feelings, loved ones, dreams, were passionate, and that miss-characterization attracts some people to think they've been lied too about the Nazi ideology, which is obviously a bad thing. It's regular people that do evil things, realize that, and don't be them.
@@dffndjdjd "He also used Jewish slaves to build his V2s towards the end of the war." By keeping them as slaves, he was keeping them alive. Maybe his intentions were unrelated to that, but that's the dumbest criticism you can have against what he did.
@@cirocjones9886 In order for someone to take you somewhat seriously, maybe provide reasoning as to why you believe the way you do instead of spewing out random words with the intent to be an ass.
Scarlett Johansson is severely underrated for her emotionally driven monologues. The ability to be the only person talking for 5 minutes and still be drawn in and forget is unmatched.
What a ridiculous comment. She was nominated for an Academy Award and won many other awards for her excellent acting in this film. How can such a widely admired performance be considered underrated???
@@Dave_Sissonbecause stupid people are stupid and don’t know the meaning of the word. You can guarantee that anyone who says something is underrated it’s followed by a completely dogshit take no matter what the topic is.

If this was released a year after/before 2019, this should have been Best Picture. Parasite was really good. Same feeling on the both endings though. SAD!
More than best picture. Scarlett should of won for best actress. Her dynamic range of emotions in this film are just wonderful. The butterfly scene...the panning of the camera up to her shoes as her body hangs on the gallows....truly timeless cinema.
As a german, I must say, sometimes in the movie I laughed so hard at Hitler being so stupid funny, I was shocked about the sadness and cruelty. My great Grandpa was forced to fight in the war, and he had the order to kill someone (I believe a fleeing comerade). He shot next to him and his Commander send him to the SS for interogation, hewas very close to execution. But luckily he had very bad eyesight and used this as a excuse, so he was transfered to „funker“. My great grandma helped a familiy of jews to pass to america, but she was caught by the SS as well. She was ordered to be executed, but to her „luck“, the russians came and the SS left her to be killed by them but she managed to get away. In the 1960, a letter was sent to my familiy from the jews to thank us, sadly she had already passed away. As my father told me the story, he almost cred, If seen him only cry once in my life. So what am I trying to tell? I have no idea how to discribe it.
10:29 Taika Waititi in Hitler costume... with a hair clip It's just so unexpected and sort of anachronistic but not really (like not in time but still similar), can't find the right word right now Edit: pretty certain I was looking for incongruous
Ugh, this movie is ingeniously beAutiful. I agree with Roman , there’s no genre for this. It’s created another genre. I love what Taika did with Elsa, that he didn’t make her a cliched ‘pitiable’ character. Hitler and the Nazis were simply genius, and the use of Rebel Wilson, Who is usually used as a tropey cast away character, really turned it around with her, such a refreshing view of her style of comedy! Also... didn’t think I would say this but Sam Rockwell is my favourite Nazi lol.
@@AishInTheHouse No single genre, maybe, but (I've posted this comment elsewhere) I see it as a hybrid of whatever Billy Elliot was (2000 film version) and The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. It had all the Nazi horror and the surrealistic dark comedy, plus a number of plot commonalities with both.
The flamboyant uniform at the end didn't tip you off? I noticed his sexuality was being hinted at in the pool scene, though I do remember thinking it was weird he was feeding some other guy when Jojo's mother takes him to the Hitler youth office and tells him to take care of JoJo.
@@fullmetalpotato1258 I don't automatically associate flamboyant with gay either, though, I felt like that that the uniform drawing and the actual making and wearing of said uniform at the end was the In-case-you-hadn't-noticed-he's-gay scene. In my opinion it would have been random and such a throwaway if it was just there for the LOLs.
I saw the film for the first time a few days ago. When the scene came up where the mother is standing on the wall and her shoes are on Jojos's eye level, I immediately knew it had to be some kind of exposure. Shots like that always fulfill a purpose. And it was absolutely perfect when the moment happened, because it did exactly what it was made for: The scene where the mum stands on the wall is one of the, if not THE happiest scene in the film. It shows mother and son goofing around, having fun, loving each other. The vivid picture of her shoes (and the fact that tying each others shoes stands for affection in this movie) made the scene were her shoes are yet again on his eye level even worse, because you're immediately reminded of the exposure scene. Them having fun, being carefree and goofing around. Really making us aware of what Jojo just lost. Taika is a genius.
This is one of the only comedic films I really love, another one would be The Grand Budapest Hotel, they’re both funny in a way but not stupid and meaningless
Alvaro CAro eh no the directors were good it’s Disney that screwed up by not having a plan from the beginning and winging the movies. Idk I’m just curious with what Taika has to offer
