This is a great piece. I wonder how much the ocean has encroached since the making of this documentary. I am currently planning a documentary expedition to Kiribati and this has been part of my research. Kiribati should become emblematic of the climate crisis and I am going to help make it a reality.

Is there any land subsidence in Kiribati? Sometimes it is not just sea level rise. The Outer Banks of North Carolina has land subsidence and therefore has a double effect of sea level rise and land subsidence.

THE TITLE IS WRONG. It is many islands. And besides, there are two or three countries that are ahead in the line of potential erasure. (Maldives, Tokelau and Tuvalu, and the Marshalls)
@reversemoustachecat8127
@reversemoustachecat8127 5 лет назад
It is possible to raise the level of the island using dredging. Dubai built the Palm islands this way. This would require investment from richer countries. I would have loved if the report addressed some of these known solutions. You can also build a network of barriers and wave breakers around the island to protect lower land. I would have liked to understand why investors are not interested or haven't been approached. It looks like a great tourist attraction.

Tectonic plate may even be a cause because they do constantly shift, so some land masses sink and some gain hills and mountains. The aincent sunken cities are understood to be victims of earth changing.
@glennkerrison6108
@glennkerrison6108 2 года назад
Thank you for not giving in to this climate change hysteria . Just like islands can sink because of plate techtonics, the planet's temperature can fluctuate with the cycles of the Sun. You can take any theory (agenda) the msm and the ruling class is pushing, and you can be sure it's all lies.
@roygreenwood79
@roygreenwood79 Год назад
I feel for the people of those islands, but would suggest it has nothing at all to do with climate change but with glacial isostatic adjustment, parts of the earth's crust are rising other's staying the same and some sinking ,which may well account for what's happening here

Don’t forget that within the ring of fire earthquakes happen all the time. The earthquake in Japan made the part of the mainland that had been built up to stop the tsunami affecting the town. The problem was the earthquake made that part of the island sink by over 1 metre. The levy that was built to protect those living at sealevel was useless because the 1 metre high wall was now under water. This island I believe was in the news about how the water washed away a big part of the island. The description was exactly the same as that which could be seen in the footage of the Japanese tsunami. Tsunamis have not even been considered for the pacific area. Last year saw the biggest increase in earthquakes and volcanic eruptions which suggest that at lower levels of the earths mantle something is going on. If the earthquake happens at 4 miles down then the wave produced could take miles before it hits land with devastating consequences. We know from the Japan earthquake that the wave traveled as far as India, Alaska, Canada and California. There is a video of a marina being bashed up in California when the wave eventually hit land in the USA. To say that no this wasn’t an tsunami or even consider it is stupid. The locals described very clearly what was a tsunami not global warming. Global warming doesn’t produce a wave of such force it can wash away a village, banana plantation and harbour. Global warming does not work like that.

#AJ+ The sea isn't heating up that much to cause the rising sea levels that we see in Kiribati, so the question is; Is something else the cause of the rising sea, and cause "King tides,? Drone Submarines working together with satellite could cause King tides. The technology was developed by the Brits and Americans during WW2 to create high tides and Tsunamis, so these high tides could be man made. I advise Kiribati people to stay on your islands. Ask or petition Elon Musk to help you. And fast, and pray the Holy Rosary everyday. There are forces at work to remove Islanders off from their Islands. God love you, to live on.
@glennkerrison6108

Shifting tectonic plates. The same people raising the alarm about climate change are all buying waterfront property. It's all a scam to transfer wealth and eventually steal land from citizens. Most people seem to believe anything the ruling class asses tell them. A good rule of thumb: msm and politicians are 96-100% BS ( a little truth makes it easier to swallow).
@martakaminska6651
@martakaminska6651 8 месяцев назад
mate, first of all, the world is indeed heating up enough to cause rising tides. How? Higher temperatures make the glaciers melt, so more water is released. and the scale of it is HUGE, in you don't believe me, please do your research. secondly, Elon Musk isn't god - he's just another businessman and he shouldn't be idolised that much - he can't stop the floodings by a not of his finger

Really! They built a country on islands that are two feet above sea level. They built a country on islands two feet above sea level!!! Of course the sea is going to floated the islands! It's common sense knowing that the ocean will eventually changes sea level. A melted ice cube would floated that island!
@freesk8
@freesk8 7 лет назад
Ocean levels are rising at a rate of about 20 CM a century. That's less than a foot a century. Any land that is so low that 20 more CM will inundate it is already pretty useless because of tides and storms anyway. Sorry, this is just not our fault.
@freesk8
@freesk8 7 лет назад
Tides are NOT related to climate change. They are caused by the moon. Some tides rise and fall twelve feet each couple of days. A few more inches a century is insignificant compared to these daily tidal swings.
@freesk8
@freesk8 7 лет назад
And some land is going DOWN in altitude. It sinks for reasons unrelated to climate change or sea level.
@alveolate
@alveolate 7 лет назад
so if an entire nation is composed of land low-lying enough to be considered "pretty useless" by your standards, too bad for them? they are literal victims of global warming, significantly accelerated by the actions of industrialised nations - not whose fault again?
@freesk8
@freesk8 7 лет назад
Chris S, I teach Physics. The moon is the major cause for the tides. oceanservice.noaa.gov/education/kits/tides/tides02_cause.html
@freesk8
@freesk8 7 лет назад
Gregory, I definitely feel compassion for them. But sea levels have been rising, and some land areas have been sinking, for thousands of years, even before anthropogenic CO2 levels started to rise. My point is that ocean levels are rising very slowly. About at a rate of 20 cm per century. These folks need to adapt to this change somehow. They can put their houses up on pilings, create seawalls, or move to other islands with high ground. And my taking one fewer commercial airplane flight per year is not going to change that.
