Last winter, I had the opportunity to tag along on a luxury Kyushu tour that included a few amazing ryokans, and the opportunity to spend a night on the coveted Seven Stars (Nanatsuboshi) luxury train that runs through Southern Japan.
The video came late because it took months to get it approved, but I'm glad to finally be able to share it with you now. Here are some links if you're interested in learning more about the places shown in this video:
Akizuki Spa Seiryuan (Japanese Website)
www.seiryuan.com/
English Booking Website:
www.booking.com/hotel/jp/seir...
The Seven Stars In Kyushu Official Website:
www.cruisetrain-sevenstars.jp...
(I know narration is nasaly and I'm a bit crusty in this video, I happened to get really really sick before we shot but I didn't want to cancel the trip, so I tried to power through. Hehe. )

One of the reasons I love Japan, and the culture is because they have people like that. People who would just go out of their ways to welcome visitors. I have had people telling me when I was in smaller towns in Japan that they are so happy that visitors come and visit their towns. I have never been shown that type of hospitality before :3

To me, that speaks to the standards of the line. You can't just say you want to work for the line, (if in fact that's what he wants), but you have to prove yourself worthy of the standards that has made the Nanatsuboshi what he loves in the first place. If that would make his dream come true, I would love nothing more than for them to hire him.

In my time here, I've met so many people who are full of sincere and warmhearted passion for a really specific thing, as Mr. Tashiro is about the Nanatsuboshi Train. It is so genuine and wonderful... a lot of younger Japanese people feel that it's old-fashioned or boring (they would rather have a variety of hobbies). Some of my friends who are really dedicated to their sole hobby wonder if it's boring. I don't think it is, and I see in the comments that so many people agree! Even though most of us will likely never ride this train, we could all feel Mr. Tashiro's excitement, enthusiasm, and kindness. Thank you!

Aah... That's great! I drive trains in Italy and I sometimes come across the European Orient Express that is a train service very very similar to this one you showed us: top class service onboard, with classic cars, but I'm not sure that they give to customers the extra shows seen in your video (jazz live music, the costume show on platform, etc). The Orient Express usually crosses the border at Brenner Pass between Austria and Italy, and I normally work on that railway line with my trains. As a train driver (or engineer, or... BTW, how do you call train drivers in Canada?? 😁) and as a "fan" of Japan and Japanese culture, it would be a dream for me to drive that train... 😊 I hope you enjoyed your trip.

I used to live/work in Tokyo for a short while and whenever I felt suffocated by the hustle and bustle of the city, I liked escaping on a train ride whenever it was possible. Hokkaido is my most favourite place. I wish all people will get to experience the wonders of Japan even if just for once. Love and Blessings.

What really stuck me were 1. decorated porcelain sinks (I have never seen those in my life anywhere) 2. clear tomato juice (looks like white wine).
