That's a great comment. Here is a brilliant, nuanced, and deeply felt film. It's a bit like Llewyn Davis's performance of "Queen Jane" in the film: utterly compelling, yet uncommercial.
The Oscars don't celebrate good films...they celebrate good commercial films...the money makers....a film like this is unique too the people that really enjoy music and film....bravo the Coen Brothers and all the cast... awesome film.
Beautiful harmonies..a very freespirited song that catapults the listener into a dreamy landscape of what could have been if you had followed your heart and hit the open road....
One of those movies I got as a freebie with a new release. I've watched it many times since. You expect a lot from a Cohen picture, and this does not dissapoint. I don't know, something about it grabs me. Great period piece, great music, everyone dos a great job, but there's something more to it. Just can't nail it down. Now, THAT is a good movie!!
+dasboot19801 I hadn't heard this song since 6th grade or something and watching this scene made me teary. I get what you mean, I like immersing myself into every frame of a Coen brothers movie and even though this one lacked somewhat, it still pulls you in for some reason. The period is visualized very well yes, but more than that its the smooth and lack of serious (sort of laid back) approach towards the story that's still mesmerizing. Hard to describe but... yeah
I had to go and download the entire soundtrack because after watching I just couldn't stop hearing the music in my head. Beautiful soundtrack, beautiful movie and I hope a film that made Oscar Isaac someone to consider for future awards! He was brilliant!!
If you missed the train I'm on You will know that I am gone You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles A hundred miles, a hundred miles A hundred miles, a hundred miles You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles Lord, I'm one, Lord, I'm two, Lord, I'm three, Lord, I'm four Lord, I'm five hundred miles away from home Away from home, away from home, Away from home, away from home Lord, I'm five hundred miles away from home [Instrumental] Not a shirt on my back Not a penny to my name Lord, I can't go back home this ole way This ole way, this ole way, This ole way, this ole way, Lord, I can't go back home this ole way If you missed the train I'm on You will know that I am gone You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles A hundred miles, a hundred miles A hundred miles, a hundred miles You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles
Awesome song. Not only does Timberlake show his true musical ability, but was surprised Carey Mulligan sang so well. I discovered the movie from a Graham Norton repeat - in which she mentioned the movie. She also didn't consider herself a good singer. I agree with Carey - she's outstanding!
I know all the words by heart because we sang this song so many times at camp Hawthorn so many years ago. Music really connects us over time and many generations!
+Bruce Sullivan I agree - I knew Justin was very talented - but this showed just how splendid his singing voice actually is. ALSO, Carey Mulligan's singing was superb. After hearing her speak about her singing, I wasn't expecting much... but when Justin and Carey began singing.... it was like magic.

i don't even contry music but after watching inside Llewyn i was big fan of this song. there are a lot of songs in the movie, but i got inspired from only this song.
@harsh thakkar check en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/500_Miles its an old folk song predating 60's. the bollywood song is a note to note copy with lyrics in hindi.
This song was the best thing about the Movie. There should have been more songs sung by these three! I may even prefer this version to the original...and that's saying a lot!
Jab koi baat bigad jae, Jab koi mushkil pad jae Tum dena saath mera, o, hamnava Jab koi baat bigad jae, Jab koi mushkil pad jae Tum dena saath mera, o, hamnava Na koi hai, na koi tha, Zindagi mein tumhare siva Tum dena saath mera, o, hamnava Tum dena saath mera, o, hamnava Ho chandni jab tak raat, Deta hai har koi saath Tum magar andhero mein, Na chhodna mera haath Ho chandni jab tak raat, Deta hai har koi saath Tum magar andhero mein, Na chhodna mera haath Jab koi baat bigad jae, Jab koi mushkil pad jae Tum dena saath mera, o, hamnava Na koi hai, na koi tha, Zindagi mein tumhare siva Tum dena saath mera, o, hamnava Vafadari ki vo rasme, Nibhaenge ham to kasme Ke ek bhi sans zindagi ki, Jab tak ho apne basme Vafadari ki vo rasme, Nibhaenge ham to kasme Ke ek bhi sans zindagi ki Jab tak ho apne basme Jab koi baat bigad jae, Jab koi mushkil pad jae Tum dena saath mera, o, hamnava Na koi hai, na koi tha, Zindagi mein tumhare siva Tum dena saath mera, o, hamnava Dil ko mere hua yaki, Ham pahle bhi mile kahi Silsila ye sadiyo ka, Koi aaj ki baat nahi Dil ko mere hua yaki, Ham pahle bhi mile kahi Silsila ye sadiyo ka, Koi aaj ki baat nahi Jab koi baat bigad jae, Jab koi mushkil pad jae Tum dena saath mera, o, hamnava Jab koi baat bigad jae, Jab koi mushkil pad jae Tum dena saath mera, o, hamnava Na koi hai, na koi tha, Zindagi mein tumhare siva Tum dena saath mera, o, hamnava Tum dena saath mera, o, hamnava.
Remember: This is the guy who used to be in N*Sync, did songs with Nelly and did a song on SNL called "dick in a box". THAT guy is apart of this beautiful song (or rendition or w/e)
Why? Because he was once some silly kid in a silly boy band at the turn of the century? Come on. He's come a long way since then, a very long way... a hundred miles, one might say.
I don't like most of his music because I just don't like it, much in the way I don't like most screamo; it's personal preference. I don't care for him as a personality because he strikes me as smarmy.
I can understand why one wouldn't like JT, I really can. I used to dislike him. But, when you think about it, he is one of the most famous entertainers on the earth. Have you ever heard of him abusing drugs? Abusing women? Treating papparazzi poorly? Treating anyone poorly? The guy is talented, but he's also humble and seems to not take his fame too seriously. Seems like a genuinely cool person who happens to have an incredible talent as a performer.

This is a nice version but it's also too mellow for me. I think Peter, Paul and Mary's version is the best. The distinctive voice of Mary just shows the loneliness and sadness of a traveller leaving home.
