Salewa's Mountain Trainer Lite is the lighter version of the well-loved Mountain Trainer - It isn't really a trainer, it's a tough, waterproof, beautifully made alpine trekking boot capable of handling long mountain days.

So i havent tried on the mid yet but i have tried the shoe/low version. On a brannock device i measure a US-12 E width. 95% of footwear never fits right in a 12. Its usually too short and my toes are touching the end of the boot. So i tried these in a 13. I had a thumb’s width in the toe at the end and i had some wiggle room in the toes. I had a lightweight smartwool sock. Im not sure if i would have the room for a heavyweight sock. A mid weight might work. Boot is very comfy and even though i had the low top on it felt very supportive and stable. Im becoming a huge salewa fan but they are kinda hard to come by in shops in the state i live in. But i strongly suggest them. My current footwear are the salewa wildfire edge and the asolo tps 520 evo. But these boots in the mid cut will absolutely replace my asolo’s and will be doing so very soon.

Having lots of time on my hands due to lockdown 2, I went a bit overboard with my research, to find my next boot and looked at probably every boot on the market! I finally decided on these salewa mountain trainer lites as they seemed to tick every box, and I'm very glad I did. They were extremely comfortable straight out the box. I tested them at my local woods, it's very hilly and, was a wet autumn day with lots of puddles, mud and leaves under foot. I went, running, climbing, through puddles and up and down very steep slippy slopes. Before buying, I was a bit concerned about them having a pomoca sole (as I'd never heard of them before) instead of a vibram sole, But I needn't have, because everything about these boots are brilliant, the pomoca soul is excellent, very grippy even over fallen trees in the wet, my feet stayed completely dry, warm and comfortable, they're very light, enough for running. All in all an amazing boot, the best I've ever owned.

You said you wear usually size 9 but the shoes are 8.5 and they fit perfectly
@trekitt
@trekitt 3 года назад
The Alp Trainer is lighter and more flexible, but both feel as comfortable as the other in my opinion. Obviously this is dependant on whether the boot fits you in the first place, but they both fit me really well! Personally, I found both true to size, but it depends on your foot shape, which socks you like to wear, how much your feet swell, etc. It may be worth ordering a few different sizes and sending back the pair that doesn't fit. Kind regards, Harry.

@saouke
@saouke 3 года назад
@@pedrosincasa hi :) stock was mainly the factor, these Salewa were out of stock everywhere in my size and I had already been thinking about the Ducans. Did buy a different pair of Mammut before that (I forget what now) but they didn't come in UK 10.5, only 10 and 11 so were not a good fit sadly - as they were comfy just small! As far as the Ducan go I've done about 30 miles give or take in them now, in various weather. Out of the box fit was comfy but I found the laces across the top of my foot were a bit tight on circulation (I have this problem with most boots) so had to relace to suit my foot but after that all great. Not found them too hot despite the GTX. No water leaks though I did get absolutely drenched on Winter Hill a few weeks back in a thunderstorm and had water ingress down my leg into my sock and had a wet foot, dried out overnight quite quickly with some newspaper compared to a day or two in my old boots :) One thing I will say is I've had to go down to a thinner pair of socks (using Bridgedale light merino now) as with my usual medium thickness socks they were a bit too tight - but I haven't tried the mediums on a walk/with my new lacing to say for sure. I have a wide footbox and narrow ankle so fitting boots is a right pain and takes me a couple of walks to get set right for me :)

I wear a 12.5 UK in Mammut with some room in the toe box for my big toe but it's just right for my little toes. I have plateau shaped toes with the top 3 toes being quite high up in most boots so I typically order a 31cm mondopoint or JPN in any shoe I get. I like Mammut because they tend to have low volume and a snug fit on the heel so I can get enough space for my toes without sliding (sometimes the problem with Scarpa). A friend is near fanatical about how comfortable Salewa are and I'm thinking of ordering a pair to try. Should I go 12 or 12.5 UK? 12 UK appears to be 31 cm which is what I normally wear. The reports on how narrow they are are so conflicting. Some reviews say they're average to wide on the toe box (which I want) and others describe the same shoe as "narrow". Unfortunately it's a 150 mile drive to the nearest Salewa dealer so I can either do that or take a risk online and maybe have to return them. Or I could order both sizes and see.
@trekitt
@trekitt Год назад
I would personally order both if possible and send back the pair that doesn't fit. Salewa generally run true to size in terms of length, but the width differs model to model. I had a pair of Salewa Wildfires which were pretty slim, low volume and about average compared to most brands length wise. I found the heels narrow, so this should suit you pretty well.

There is an inner boot liner that keeps the tongue and cuff of the boot waterproof, but if stepping into deeper snow and/or water we would recommend adding in some gaiters to ensure you stay dry.

Hi Trekitt. I'm very interested in a boot just like this, i.e. lightweight (around 550g), but supportive enough for, say, a 5-day trek in the Pyrenees with a 50L backpack, including a little bit of glacier walking with some microspikes. But I like really understated designs. No colours please - not even on the sole. Grey, brown, khaki, black, even a splash of olive, all fine. But nothing more flamboyant than that. Does this exist? The Salewa Alp Trainer 2 looks promising, but I'm worried it's not stiff enough for the job? Cheers.
@trekitt
@trekitt 3 года назад
My immediate suggestion is the Mammut Ducan High GTX in Black www.trekitt.co.uk/footwear/boots/mammut-mens-ducan-high-gtx-black__37283 , but it depends whether you're willing to compromise on the yellow Vibram logo on the sole. It also heavily depends on whether it fits your feet, as this will be the deciding factor. If possible, I'd visit us in person with an open mind, find the boot that fits you well and serves the function you're looking to get out of the boot, then narrow down by which is most aesthetically pleasing. I hope that helps. Harry
@sardendibs

@@trekitt That's an interesting suggestion, thanks. Appreciate it. It will surely take some mental adjusting, but the yellow Vibram logo on the sole may be just about tolerable.

@trekitt
@trekitt 3 года назад
Hi Dusan, well, apart from the rather obvious weight difference, there a number of technical differences mainly to do with the construction of the upper and the midsole. There's a really good "comparison" chart on the Salewa website. www.salewa.com/en-gb/search?sSearch=mountain%2Btrainer&p=1 Your choice should be determined by fit and function! For general hiking and some light mountaineering, either boot would suffice, provided that it fits you correctly! Did I mention that the most important thing is that the boots fit you correctly? Get yourself down to your local Outdoor Specialist Retailer and get a Pro boot fit. Thanks for watching. Paul.

Tough one, a little dependent on fit as the Tx5 is lower volume overall and also a touch stiffer. If you think you'll be doing a little more scambling/approach and need a more protective boot then the Tx5 has the edge for us, but would be best to try both on if possible and see which one works best for your foot shape.
