Johnny is such a legend - loved the analysis with the video!! that was such a wet kentucky haha, my first year as a spectator. so gutted for you all that it was cancelled this year, esp after having to miss it last year bc of injury. here's hoping there's time still this year to see Johnny out doing his thing!

This makes me feel so good to see. I was among the fence judges at the Hollow, swaddled in rain capes. It started raining as the first horse started the course and ended right after the last competitor finished, six and a half hours later. Luckily, it was not cold. As it had been the year before when we all froze to death. Your round was sensational-something to be really proud of.

The clay ground and thick bluegrass at the Kentucky horse Park have an amazing ability for absorbing rain and still being firm enough (in most places) that we don’t see too much slipping and sliding, most years. There are exceptions, of course.

If this is the year I’m thinking of it wasn’t just wet it was cold and wet for XC day! Thanks for this. See ya in 2021!
@fleetskipper1810
@fleetskipper1810 4 года назад
idnic You may be thinking of 2015, when it was extremely wet and in the 30°. range. That year, I was stationed at the water jump up on the hill north of the competitors’ stabling where the Lexington Bank used to be. In 2016, when Elisa’s video here was made, it did rain the whole time, but it was considerably warmer than 2015. It wasn’t fun to get wet through to our skin, but at least our hands weren’t so numb that they couldn’t write anything down! We jump judges were so cold in 2015 that we had to take turns sitting inside the vets’s vehicle, with the engine running, to warm up. The vet’s dog didn’t like us coming in and out and kept howling the entire time we were trying to get warm. Our hands were so numb we could not write down any comments as the horses went by. That was miserable.

Watching this helps me get psyched for taking a local polo package of intro coaching lessons. That first table &oxer looks scary. And the rain...? I'm in it for the dressage. And for the fun of the associated sports. Watching this sure beats filing my Unemployment Claim from the State of CA. When will the funds come through...? Congrats on such an achievement!

I should add...the reason I, an ex-IHSA Collegiate Hunter-Jumper who rode for her university's team, do not find XC appealing, is that in my youth I had a trainer who kept me on the same lesson horse and that horse always darted out on almost every single jump and that was while I was attempting to learn how to jump. And I only went once a week for lessons. it wasn't until my instructor put me on a horse that had shown at the national horse show who was apparently trained and high high levels of dressage that I started to understand what made me happy on a horse. And that's HARMONY. I really want to get back into the sport. I simply cannot find a way to do it in an exorbitantly- overpriced-real estate area of the United States. It's fun watching your videos, though. My guess is if....on only one lesson a week, I was good enough to make my University team years later and we weren't all that bad and I was not the point rider yet earned points for the team by lottery drawing/horse assignment... It's all in good taste to say that it's all about how any horse is trained and the rider respecting that and understanding the horse and their own body, thereafter.
