Being an iraqi refugee you say "we don't own anything" hit me hard .. that's my motto in life after the war i turly believe we should collect memories not things coz you could lose everything in one day

someone once told me i was "too giddy." you know what i did? I smiled.

in Chinese we have similar "disease" or "illness" called 公主病 which directly translates to princess illness and sounds very similar to the Korean version. My cousin was accused by my parents to have this illness but it doesnt really describe someone as girly but rather very self centered and complains about everything as well as treats everyone as their servant.

I loved this video Nami! It's called 'princess syndrome' in English. I can really relate to you when it comes to denying a part of yourself in fear of rejection. I was bullied when I was in grade school and I used to wear pink from top to toe Haha, I was very girly as a child just like you. But since I was bullied I started to think that everything with me was wrong, so when I became a teenager I tried to change everything about myself and I couldn't wear the color pink for years and years because it made me feel so repulsive. It wasn't until I was 18-19 that I could mentally cope with wearing pink again, slowly as I started to learn to love myself again. Thanks for always sharing your stories so genuinely, it makes us all feel a little bit less lonely in our journey and struggles ❤

This video is honestly so touching. When you said "Coming here with nothing" and "All we brought was our bags and $100" it makes me realize how much I have compared to what you had as a refugee. You've come from so little and the lord has given you the opportunity to have an amazing life in Canada. A trip down memory lane is nice I understand back then we wanted to have friends and to fit in. It seems you have gone back to your roots a little bit with the pink and cute things again. When I was four I had a lot of nightmares there was a time I was afraid to go to sleep. I suppose the good thing about it I would draw them or make stories. The story that this bag holds is so heartwarming, it tells people that no matter how much you start with you can live happily. My family were also refugees and the fact that we were born after they settled down has made the kids in the family less fluent in our mother tongue compared to English which makes it hard sometimes to communicate with our mum. 💖

When I was little I used to talk a lot and some family members started to tell me to shut up because I was annoying, constantly. So I stopped talking and I grew up being really quite and I still to this day (I'm 20 now) get anxious when I talk to people because I feel like I'm going to annoy them. So yeah, that's something that changed me. On another note, I absolutely love your makeup Nami. So so so pretty 💕

I FEEL SO RELATED TO THIS. My Barbie backpack, which i wore when we moved to germany for the first time, was pink too. I was 6,5 years old then and i have still been keeping this little treasure for 12 years ^•^

When you began talking about how you shied away from being girly to going full on tomboy and then transitioning back into a girly girl, it deeply resonated with me. As a baby I was assumed into pink items because typical gender roles. Pink was for girls. Blue was for boys. I remember growing up and always being jealous of my male classmates and cousins because their clothes were really cool and my clothes were boring. Boys got cargo shorts that had 10 pockets and could unzip from pants into shorts and I was stuck wearing pink tights with some little skirt or something. I quickly told my mom that I hated girl clothes and I wanted to dress like a boy. Unfortunately, she wasn't very thrilled with me wanting to dress like a boy. However, she did compromise and allowed me to start picking out my own clothes. She let me introduce clothes that were more androgynous or basic enough that even if they were meant for boys, a girl could rock them stylishly. I didn't get my ears pierced until I was 16. Likewise, I bit my nails until I was 16. It was around high school that I began to embrace a sense of femininity. I was conflicted because the guys who were sexually interested in me liked the fact that I was a tomboy and I felt that if I dressed girly they'd stop liking me but it turned out they liked me whether I dressed as a tomboy or a girly girl so I was able to break off from my fear of rejection and began to take control of my fashion choices. To this day I am still a tomboy but I can put on a girly outfit and not feel out of place. I paint my nails and wear make up on a regular basis but one thing I still cannot master is make up. No matter how many videos I watch my make up still sucks. It's evident that I am a nerdy tomboy trying to play it off lol. I also really suck at wearing heels and walking around in uncomfortable shoes. I've always been a sneaker or skate shoe kind of chick. Hot pink, cotton candy blue, and black are my favorite colors. Recently I've been dying my hair midnight blue although my dream hair color is pure white or even a slight lavender silver. I think it's nice to be able to switch between styles at any given time. We shouldn't feel bad about what we like and we should have all the freedom in the world to cross in and out of different styles.

I don't have any memories since I was 16 and I still wonder why not Anyway those little pink shoes no wait everything that you showed us I said "omg that's what I would wear too" probably every little girl would but that coat was my favorite haha it's so cute!

I remembered what I had in my bag when I was coming to U.S. to my parents. I brought fruits from China to my parents and my aunt threw them away. My toys I carried in my bag was also dumped and thrown away.

When I was younger I was a tom boy I was afraid to be girly too, in my second elementary school my friends were really girly so I kind of started to let myself enjoy those things

Around that age, I (along with my family) survive a bad earthquake in my home town. Afterwards, the situation got so dangerous that my parents sent us to another city and we had a bag like that with: one change of clothes, some food and some money. I remember it was a yellow small bag with a duck face on it. Later on Mom told us it was because everything was so dangerous and the after shakes so devastating that they wanted us to have "something" just in case something happened to them. My sister, who is 4 years older than me, would had have to take care of all 4 of us. ( 4 kids: 2 girls and 2 boys) I didn't know the extent of the meaning behind that small backpack until we talked about it and I cried in the thought that I could have lost my parents.

Oh my god this was such a cute and unique video! Btw I used to be a tomboy too, I remember my mom would get upset cause she'd buy me really nice frilly clothes but I would only want to wear a yellow jeans overall and a turquoise plaid shirt! I even had really short hair for a while back when I was 4 (kind of like a buzz cut) I looked so much like a boy that even my aunts used to mistake me as my younger brother hahahah. Though I progressively got out of that phase as I grew older, I still feel very comfortable wearing boyish/androgynous clothes 💁🏻‍♀️

Trying to reconnect with my femininity has been so difficult 😫 I went through a similar thing where I was told I was being too soft and sensitive (newsflash: i just have anxiety issues but whatever) so I rejected all things soft and sensitive and girly especially pink. Even now, I get in moods where I feel just an adverse reaction to femininity bc of past experiences. Its a process 🤷🏽‍♀️

I was also shamed for being such a girly girl growing up. I had 2 brothers and 3 step brothers, so I was always around boys who would make fun of me for my all pink and barbies. It took me until college honestly to re-embrace my girly side.
