Inside my Quooker Flex Boiler tap 1 year on

Had a look inside the boiler of my Quooker Boiler tap 1 year on, changed out the HITAC filter, 90min job start to finish, next year it will be less than an hour now I know what it takes.
The filters can only be purchased on the Quooker website service shop, £25 GBP
Simple job, you just need a few spanner’s, the intention of the video was to show the internals 1 year after buying, rather than being a “how to” as there are many good videos out there already for how to complete this task.

I absolutely love how neat and clean your installation looks and your idea with the cover for the Quooker! Great job! Having several different water filters in my life which all have recommended changing intervals of give or take 6- 12 months depending on the water quality and the amount of water used, I had the exact same idea as you, especially since I saw other videos on RU-vid where people cleaned the unit after 4 years or so and had huge amounts of limescale coming out which did look quite gross, to be honest.😂 Would be great if Quooker made the change of the filter easier; it would also benefit them in terms of units of filters sold :).

Wish I'd taken a picture of mine, which I've recently cleaned out. I live in the hard Thames water area so I had about 1 inch of lime scale at the bottom after 12 months.Have been getting the 4 flashing lights problem as well, so I have to keep rebooting. Moving home very soon and will try the cheaper Qettle, which includes the filter.

You need to fit the Scale Control R unit…. It prevents limescale build up in the tank, even in soft water areas

I have no idea about this stuff - but is it safe to have a plug socket installed so close to the water supply? What if there was a leak at the back edge of the worktop? Is it in line with regs?

Thanks for doing this video, I take it your inlet is straight off the mains (no other filtering)?
@madsparkie

That’s correct straight off the mains, as per the instructions.

i imagine this is needed in the UK cause of their not so good water quality. I'm in The Netherlands and we never have any filters cause our water is very clean and good quality, we opened up ours after more than a decade to see if it was bad and to my surprise there was no residue.

Should I get one, would you recommend? What about running/maintenance costs but note you said filter pack is £25, is there any other maintenance cost? I’m also in Aberdeen so a soft water area but surprised at the build up after just 1 year even with the Aberdeen water!

I wouldn’t be without it now, more kitchens are sold with them than without them now, a bit like microwaves back in the day, now everyone has a microwave, soon everyone will have a boiler tap, there are cheaper ones available, but I believe Quooker is most likely the bench mark, I’m North of Aberdeen by an hour or so, the build up of limescale wasn’t huge but definitely worth the £25 a year for the filter. Hope this helps.

Mine just packed in after 10 years so can't complain. The unit is totally dead. They offer a replacement service £300 for a new tank providing they get the old one back. £30 per year for 10 years is really not bad.

Aberdonian? I just bought a house with this in it, turned it on to check it out and black water pored out first. I’m away to clean it all out. Cheers for the video.
@richardrussell7082

The black water is excess carbon being flushed out of a new filter.

Where can the limescale be safely disposed of would you say? What if it is an exceptionally excessive amount. Also, what does the gasket look like, where could it be purchased also is the gasket absolutely necessary
@madsparkie
@madsparkie Год назад
Put the limescale in a tissue, then in the bin or down the toilet, if you check back the video the gasket can be seen at 5:10, it comes as part of the kit from the Quooker website, as this is a pressurised vessel it would be good practice to change the gasket every time it’s opened, especially as it comes as part of the kit, if you are unsure you shouldn’t be doing this yourself, you could quite easily damage the housing if not careful with stripped threads etc.

Is this a difficult job to do? I’ve been in my house 4 years and ours has never been cleaned. Thinking it’s due a filter change after seeing your video but unsure whether it’s something I would manage or not.
@madsparkie
@madsparkie Год назад
It’s a doddle, if you’re any good with spanner’s and tools and have an understanding of how not to strip a thread you should be fine, I’ve just ordered one for this year, and noticed the price is now £25+£5 VAT + £5 shipping

Does your grey plastic pressure valve every leak? Mine from time to time leaks water from it and it seems like its under pressure???
@madsparkie
@madsparkie Год назад
It does now and again, It’s a pressure relief valve, it’s designed to open at (around) 8bar, it’s a safety feature. 👍. However, If it’s passing constantly then perhaps it’s not seating properly after lifting,

Mine had been leaking recently, after I fully removed pipe discovered it had some limescale build up and caused some blockage. Cleaned out with some stiff wire and reinstalled

Isn't the water filtered before it goes across the element?

I had a quick look at the Quooker website just now, www.quooker.co.uk/pro7-e-internals-31-200-00.html and looking at the pic, and from memory I believe water is filtered coming out of the tank, I dare say you could probably put an inline filter before the Quooker tank, if you live in an area with particularly hard water and it’s a concern for you.

I too was under the impression that there was a filter in my Flex, bit it doesn't look like it from the video and my unit looks the same. ( away from home, so can't check it at the moment)

Asking me what is 1500 € or above on this quooker's worth?
@madsparkie
@madsparkie 7 месяцев назад
Not sure I fully understand your question, however, there are other boiler taps available that do the same job and less expensive , we like ours, It works for us, we were installing a new kitchen and it seemed like a good idea, I remember when microwaves first appeared on the market, and everyone thought they were not worth the expense, now almost every kitchen has a microwave, I think it’s the same for a boiler tap, if we were to move house or install another kitchen, we would fit a boiler tap agin.

@@madsparkie Just can't figure out, why a quooker cost so much when i see the components ... and they can range up to 3500 or nearly 4k (€). I landed here, why was wondering if a cooker can use big CO2 bottles (bigger then the 450gr), but cookers seems to sell them with the same bottles like sodastream.
@user-kt7kh2vj2l
@user-kt7kh2vj2l 6 месяцев назад
@@franzheger2871There are third party pressure regulators that allow you to connect bigger CO2 bottles, maybe search RU-vid or google for it :)
