Dam not cheap, you could rent in Taipei for those prices. nice kitchen for Taiwan standards. Is 1600 all included or you need to pay electricity and internet ect on top?

I think you must pay a premium for a one bed / kitchen in Taichung. When I lived in Taichung it seemed they were quite rare. Most apartments with a kitchen, also have multiple rooms. Enjoy it there mate!

I like the way how you film this video, which is mixing cooking scenes while you are introducing your new apartment. BTW, I am pretty sure that the light switch problem at the end of the video is not just a "foreigner" thing. It is a bad design to any normal human being.

Hi Prozzie, When I lived in Taichung I believe that I lived in the same apartment block for a couple of years, but I paid a painter N/T5,000 to paint the entire place in contrasting colors, which helped me relax more. I’m currently living in Tropical Queensland and I must admit, I miss Taichung, the people, the food and the cheaper cost of living. I think that you have to leave a place before you realize how much you miss it!

Tbh, I've been living in Canada for 3 years and haven't used my dishwasher and oven yet. My landlord was shocked when she saw the dry and empty dishwasher and oven. And she was like "Do you live here?" lol. The light switch is a huge problem in Taiwan. I used to have a table lamp in my loft before. Btw, I can't get used to the light in Canada... They are too dark and yellow. I've bought a bunch of LED floor lamps to make my apartment Taiwanese. 🤣

Had been looking for a new place recently and it also suprised me as a Taiwanese that how many apartment actually built like this. If you want to find a good place to live in Taiwan, I personally don't recommand this kind of apartment, since it's really small, yet somehow expansive, ranging from 20,000 ~ 30,000 NTD per month. I think they build the loft to add up extra space and seperate the space to make it kinda "functional", so that they can double the price. A single room with a bathroom of same size usually costs less than 10,000 NTD per month.

The price of renting market is never friendly to westerners unless you are some director working for an international firm. An ideal space with all criteria that suitable for westerner’s culture will cost you minimum of usd$2000 and if you could afford up to 4000, you can even get one apartment with nice views, gym and swimming pool, even in Taipei. So it is always wise to spend more time looking and comparing for a ideal place to move to. After all, a good apartment not only could be a game changer of living quality but also gives a more positive vibe which leads better lucks to your life.
@Plasma1iTV
@Plasma1iTV 2 года назад
You apartment actually doesn't seem to small since you have the extra room which you use as your office and the balcony. Moreover, the kitchen area is kinda separated. I have seen worse and smaller outlets in Taiwan 😀
@kiwizoey413

One thing is that a lot of the rental apartments are normal family apartments/houses renovated and split into multiple rentals. And the landloards usually renovate and design these apartments themselves instead of hiring professional designers to do the job. So... Lots of makeshift and bad design decisions because the landloards aren't going to be living there themselves

I'd be tempted to renovate the apartment (ie. repaint the walls, change the ugly lighting fixtures).. I agree though, unfortunately, many apartments I found in Taiwan are kind of depressing and not really aesthetic, unless you renovate the interior - that is what some of my friends have done. I can say this because I'm Taiwanese 😅
@cooliipie
@cooliipie 2 года назад
It's true that they don't decorate the apartments much. It has a very industrial vibe throughout the city. I just bought an apartment with my Taiwanese girlfriend and we are completely remodeling from the ground up. Something simple like choosing a different floor tile than the wall tile and having a line of different tile behind the tub is difficult for the contractors to comprehend lol. Yeah a lot of their equipment is so strange such to us Westerners such as the disinfector for dishes. They have a lot of non conventional equipment replacing the dishwasher, clothes dryer, garbage disposal, bed box spring, etc etc

Huge compared to what I lived in Tokyo, 1 room about the size of 4 tatami, a small fridge, a unit bath, a burner and that was it. That oven thing is still popular in Japan, the 2 burner gas stove top with a fish grille thing under it is normal. A pressure cooker is actually quite a good thing to have to be honest. I do miss full size ovens though.

Prozzie you are correct in that your new apartment has a mainland China vibe such as the illogical position of that light switch for your bedroom. That’ll be a pita going up and down to switch on or off that light switch. I concur your new place does look cheesy and tacky and 80’s or 90’s feel to it. The constant traffic noises especially those high pitch scooter revving would drive me nuts. Anyways looks like a step up from your last place and those burgers 🍔 of yours looks yummy.
