I lived at the Hotel Chelsea and worked at a vintage store on 28th street in the 1990s. Must have been just before this shop opened. We loaned tons of items every day for editorial, except 1920s dresses had paillettes made of gelatin, so they disintegrated like crazy. This shop is like a museum!

This shopping experience obviously isn't for someone on my humble money, but I refuse to ignore the value of this collection. It's nearly invaluable, one of a kinds, and items that won't ever be made exactly the same way again. There's something romantic and precious about what this retailer has achieved. I support them, if not by wallet by well-wishes. From a torch against an evening sky on a South Floridian Riviera...cheers.

Heavily beaded garments should never be stored on a hanger, even with support straps. The weight of the beads will cause the fabric to simply disintegrate. Many vintage pieces have been found lying on closet floors after having been in storage over time. Most beading is done on silk and the fibers simply can not withstand gravity.

Honestly, a lot of it should probably be in a museum where they have every preservation technique available to them. It'd be a shame for any of these pieces to waste away because of irresponsibility. Wow nasty comments from miserable people who seem to have no love of fashion. The craftsmanship of the high end houses is obvious when vintage garb is still in such good condition. I think they're too scared of people ruining any products there. She declined the 6 figure offer for that bird accessory, probably cuz she can make more in the long run, by renting it out once in awhile. Such pricey possessions. But I don't think "concern for safety" is a reason for them to be rude towards customers though. If they're so worried, they can hang all the clothing in individual transparent covers and store the accessories in transparent boxes. That way they can let everyone (regardless of looking like a celeb or not) get close to the products. They can have strict rules like, only the people who paid the bills and rented something out, can touch that product without cover/box.

What is the point of having a shop and not letting customers see all that you have. Not all people with money display their wealth and not all are famous.

I moved to NYC about 6 mos before COVID hit, and I wish I knew of this store. My grandmother sewed couture for Adrian when he had his sown salon in Beverly Hills. Maybe that will help me get a research appt since I am a fashion history grad. student Hopefully, it will open for appts after COVID. It's not great that so many costumes are not stored upstairs to prevent damage.

imtakumitrueno86 No, you should be happy to pay twenty dollars for things manufactured for thirty cents in the third world. Go to Macy's. They're completely honest. I promise.

He is talking about the wealthy shop owned by the wealthy person. He is like a messenger bird inviting us to the place. He himself isn't as wealthy as that owner lady. She refused to sell that bird accessory for 6 figures, obviously cuz she makes way more than 6 figures, by renting that out, over time. I wonder if she is on forbes or something.

The most exclusive shop in NYC will not have a gigantic brand sign outside its door with its phone number and fucking website link printed on it.... 0:44. I mean it's a very cool historical shop, but let's get real.

While the shop might be very expensive and very exclusive, it has one of a kind items. You’ll spend your whole life waiting to come across items like these in thrift stores.
