How can anyone see what's going on and think it's ok to reopen so quickly? Or think it's safe enough to not wear a mask to protect themselves and others?
Nev_117 Such people should be required to watch this. It’s hard for most human beings to grasp the enormity of this pandemic just by watching daily statistics. This story has much more of an impact, and humanizes both the patients and those who care for them.
Yo Mama Oh, by welfare I assume you mean programs like the massive tax breaks given to billionaires and corporate CEOs in that tax bill in 2017? Or the massive stimulus packages to the largest corporations in the relief bills? Because what you term “welfare” was a program called “AFDC” (Aid For Dependent Children) - that’s right, for CHILDREN, was eliminated back in the mid-1990’s, by a Republican controlled Congress and a neoliberal Bill Clinton. That happened, in part, because those foolish children forgot to hire high-priced lobbyists and donate millions to their representatives’ campaigns. What those who have lost their jobs collect is known as Unemployment Insurance, something they PAID for. It’s no handout. They earned it, as their pay is taxed from the first dollar they earn, unlike income tax. The Federal Government has been borrowing from that fund for decades, to make the overall Federal Deficit seem smaller than it really is, and leaving Social Security veer close to insolvency several times. It was during the Reagan Administration that a bi-partisan group raised taxes, FICA taxes, the burden of which falls heaviest on the poor. Mondale was right. Reagan DID raise taxes (though not for the very rich) on working Americans who earn wages or salaries, while cutting taxes for the wealthy who live off of their trust funds, and thus avoid both payroll taxes (which again, starts with the first dollar earned) AND income taxes. Trump wants us to be grateful he decided not to accept a salary, which means he’s not paying any income taxes or payroll taxes at all. But he’s cost us over $130 million to go on his golfing trips. And because he frequently goes to golf courses he owns, it’s very likely that some of our tax dollars are being paid to those golf courses, and thus, to himself. So please, stop with the welfare nonsense. There are those who cannot work from home (and thus have to find some form of childcare, since schools and child care providers are closed), they have to go to work - in fact you are seeing some of them in this video - and they are wearing masks. But as you can see, even with the PPE, many of them are still getting infected, and some have died. That’s happened to some workers in supermarkets, which are, of course, an essential business, and are open, even when everything else was shut down. So if you go out, whether it be to work, or run errands, do those fellow workers and the staff working in retail a favor and wear a mask. Wearing the mask, and following social distancing guidelines also lessens YOUR chances of infection. The only “morons” are those in denial about this pandemic, and don’t think they should be considerate towards others, and refuse to wear a mask! If you saw this video, you should remember the Code Blue in Room 315. That man wasn’t even on a ventilator, (he had a meal in his room - you cannot eat with a tube down your throat-and wasn’t in critical condition. There’s no reliable way to predict who will live, and who will die. As the staff mentioned, a patient can seem fine one moment, and go into respiratory arrest very suddenly, and with no warning. I’ve read an article written by a doctor treating patients in New York City, and he wrote of a very similar case, where he had just checked a patient who seemed fine, and just minutes after he left, suddenly went into respiratory arrest, and died before he could be intubated. So you have seen, in this report, just how suddenly and unexpectedly a patient can die. And there’s no way to predict what will happen.
i have a friend who came out of med school almost straight into this mess. now she is working in a covid unit near NYC and lives in an apartment provided by the hospital so that she won't infect her spouse. recently she was away from home for about a month and then was able to come home for about 10 days. she went back last week and won't be home for at least another six weeks. i can't imagine what it's like for her. this gives me some idea though. i just wish she could go home at the end of the day like these doctors do. going back to a temporary apartment alone seems so hard.
Tell your friend I appreciate what she is doing and that a random stranger from Phoenix Arizona has her in his thoughts and prayers tonight. Tell her thank you for your sacrifice. Thank you so much for all your doing!
I live in rural Oregon. I don't have it anywhere as bad as the east coast. I was a disaster relief team member in 2005/6 during Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Wilma. I spent time in Ocean springs and Biloxi MS after Katrina and Rita. During Wilma I was in Florida near Big Cypress preserve. The devastation was surreal. Though I can't directly relate to this, it reminds me of that.
I miss Oregon so much. Glad they weren’t hit hard. I left from there when they started to shut everything down lol only 10 ppl on the flight home which is so weird!
What angers me is how inconsiderate people in America have been about this. With restrictions easing across the United States, many people in my state of Arizona have resumed daily life and have gone to bars, malls, clubs, restaurants with no mask as if there is no pandemic going on. It saddens me to see this going on as although we are seeing cases of humanity around the world, some people feel entitled to do whatever they please without caring about others, it makes me sick.
I'm in AZ, as well. Its seems like since the lockdown ended everyones just quit trying completely. All we have to do is wear a mask when in public and people cant even do that. Inconsiderate, irresponsible and downright shameful My moms bestfriend passed away from covid a few weeks ago. It happens so quickly. To think, just wearing a mask could save someones life but noooo...
Wow I have so much respect for the hospital workers. Its incredible all the sacrifices the Dr. is making. May you continue to do your work without getting sick 🙏🏻
Thank you for sacrificing the lives of yourself and potentially your family so that many of us can stay at home. I couldn’t believe that even though you got sick, you just thought about how you could better help your patients because you experienced it too... Thank you
Great video. i do sanitatizing at some of the long term facilities in Canada the got hit hard and is a hard work. there's no mistakes when it comes cleaning and disinfecting.
mariano Mendoza This was something a nurse in a different story was saying. We know that doctors and nurses are working hard, and are risking their own lives, but there are also those whose job it is to clean and disinfect the rooms, beds, gowns, and laundry. They too are taking a risk, but often go unnoticed, and are probably underpaid. But the nurse in that story remembered to mention the important work they were doing.
For all highschool kids or premeds who wanna go into medicine, this pandemic is incredibly inspiring to say the least. Something like this happens every century so you won't need to be scared of it happening again.
Why the doctor talked with the reporter on the computer but Vice sent a staff to the doctor's home, set up three cameras, and filmed he talked with the reporter through a computer? I don't understand!
These doctors and nurses are really brave because I don't I could've continued to work in such a pandemic when there's a high probability you will get infected. True Heroes.
The gentleman who coded at the beginning of the video, he was fine a short enough time before that he was given a proper meal just hours before he passed. The rapidness of that decline is absolutely terrifying, regardless of the cause. Prayers for the folks who are still suffering from what the saw or experienced
Major Respect & Props to all the Hardworking Men & Women out there. If nobody would'of stepped in to "help" take control of this it would of spread until nobody was left.
Hey vice, why don't you guys cover the insane mortality rate of people who are put on ventilators? I for one would like to see some medical professionals asked about that.
It’s only going to get worse and spread worse soon. Mark my words. And I know many of you are going to call me crazy and harass me I also wish it could go away but it’s not.
Since we decided to lockdown without any testing or contact tracing, we've opened up with a large number of unknown infected people who will continue spreading it. Along with the fact that everyone quit giving a shit "because they're tired of the lockdown" and went back to life before the pandemic I'd say we are pretty much fucked. In about 2 weeks everyone is going to be hit hard with the realization that this virus is very dangerous At some point everyones going to have to take this seriously for awhile and only then will life go back to normal
Robert McGarry my mother is in a care home. If I did not want to resuscitate I would have that say, even in an emergency. I have actual written documentation of what they are to do if she gets sick. If someone was DNR that means the family was not contacted or the permission was received by the patient. Some donor cards actually have DNR on them. Unless that person was immediately brought in that’s is triage, not when they have been in the hospital for days. Unless they have had direction from family they cannot let someone die: And every doctors takes an oath to ensure the welfare of their patients, they have to resuscitate unless told not to. They cannot make that decision.
I am simply pointing out what they were talking about in this particular video. And if the hospital was over full, then NO you would not get a say. Again, that is why triage exists.
Some of my relatives were found dead in their beds in their homes from covid it's killed friends and co-workers I'm shocked to see all the death going around me
I know people we keep on saying it but the frontline workers are a fucking insperation, they are the modern day war vets.Tons of love, gratitude and respect for them!
This is the kind of story which we all should see, especially those who think this is hyped up by the media, and that this is “just another flu season”. We not only learn to recognize just how dangerous this virus is, but we see the daily struggle that doctors, nurses, and other hospital staff have to deal with on a daily basis, how the daily losses affect them, and the risks they are taking to care for those who are ill and dying.
They need to borrow staff from the hospitals that are busy making tiktok videos. He is one of the few that hasn't gotten sick? Something is going wrong in that hospital.
You can't convince those people. No more than you can convince someone that Trump isn't the best president ever. We just have to remember there aren't as many as it seems. They just have a better platform to shout from than the street corner they would otherwise have been relegated to.
So many of those health care workers are wearing M95 masks that have no filtration for exhale. The plastic on the exterior you see is a housing for a quarter size rubber disc that facilitates an unrestricted exhale. This disc is as thin as balloon material it is center mounted and is positive pressure (exhale) opened along its circumference or negative pressure (inhale) seated. They have no cloth filtration. Again, for unrestricted exhale. If they are carriers they are spreading virus. These incredible individuals are not adequately protecting themselves or patients using this style of mask. Look closely at them users. From the inside use an instrument to gently move the valve outward. You will see what I am referring to. Always use a secondary to cover the exterior area of the exhale valve. This facilitates exhale filtration and lessons contaminates on the exterior surface of the mask. Regrettably it forces one to work harder to breath through it and concentrates moisture. Bless all of you in service to others.
And trump trolls still claiming this is fake. They should apply for employment @ any hospital They are hiring. I would but I’m too old. I fall a lot. It’s hard for me to be a patient now They don’t have room for me. Plus a hospital is not a good place to be right now.
We should avoid scapegoating and focus on individual responsibility. We spread the disease, not one person, policy, or idea. We're focusing too much on the wrong thing.
I seriously empathize with all medical staff. Not only are they literally endangering their own lives and the lives of their family members as much as any medic on a battlefield, but they have all been working CONSTANTLY since this Plague started to spread. Very few are getting any time off and few get much time with their family members. And then just the other day, Trump and his trophy wife are Touring NASA without wearing any MASKS ! That Pisses Me Off.
I pity the developed countries, Africa is where everyone thought would be hardest hit our huge young population with immune systems exposed to deadly diseases since birth has very few deaths 3 months in despite community transmission in a continent of over 1.4billion people, now the West knows how we felt when AIDs ravaged us in the 90s and spend more money on vaccine research instead of wars
Is it luck, or is it God? Luck supposedly has absolutely no compassion; no human purposeful conscious properties. Why assign Personal Divine qualities to an impersonal godless religion?
not gonna lie, stores are cleaner and better prepared in norway than a murican hospital lul... trip and fall and the bill will be more than your house! haha crazy ass country how did eating become a hobby anyways ?
@Tony O'Brien I'm sorry to hear you have no joy. If you believe that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose Again on the third day, you will have plenty of joy. Jesus already did all the work . All you haft to do is trust and believe.
@@moriderschowitz5020 I dont know how someone could willingly go to hell. All they haft to do is believe that Jesus Christ died for their sins, was buried, and rose Again. The worst thing about hell is knowing you never had to go in the first place.
@@bornagainraptureready7565 i dont know how someone could be so convinced their religion is the truth and the only true one. Theres been 100s of religions out there how do you know yours isnt false and you have been believing the wrong god all this time?
Yeah like fear wasn’t what America was before this with Trump at the helm. Well look what has happened. Over 100,000 dead because he can’t make a plan.
