@@theaveragecritic3308 I thought that Ennui wasnt used because Riley had extra activities that made Ennui be less prone to be used so i guess it was quite logical Im not sure but anyways yeah! new sub btw !
Anxiety's arc feels like what would have happened if Joy was left to her own devices in the first film - if she controlled everything to the point where Riley couldn't process anything other than happiness, it would have led to a toxic positive trait where should become actually unpleasant as a person, where she may have driven away the people she cared about, because being unable to let people process pain is a negative mannerism. Anxiety is doing the right thing in trying to help Riley fit in and push herself, but it comes from a warped priority, as we soon see when Anxiety creates a new Sense of Self for Riley, which only has her actions at her core, where she isn't driven by being a good or balanced person, but by her belief that she isn't good enough. Anxiety did almost everything right - she befriended those who want her to succeed, she pushed herself to become a better player, she set aside childish things to focus on her future, but it came from a place of insecurity and doubt, rather than confidence or self determination. I also love the friendship Sadness and Embarrassment have, that whilst you could see Embarrassment going hand in hand with anxiety, they ultimately choose to side with Sadness, because they see Anxiety takes things too far, such that when the new Sense of Self corrupts Riley, it's Embarrassment who rushes over to try and remove it, knowing it's only causing Riley harm.
I love how this movie supports the idea that emotions are evolving and becoming more complex. Not only are emotions influenced at a core level by their surroundings but also can permanently change and may be warped. I liked how embarrassment became courage, that's my take
I really enjoyed this movie and honestly I felt anxiety when the anxiety attack was happening. I felt all the feels. The only Pixar Disney movie that’s ever made me cry was Coco
while ennui is kinda just there and has like 3 lines i LOVED HER. shes so sassy like she dont gaf also i loved her during the credits scene, recreating the scene from the first movie in suuuch a silly and good way also i loved the belief system/sense of self scene with sadness and joy, it was really pretty and my god i ship them so hard so i literally died with that scene
I actually think Ennui was a necessary emotion to add to the film, purely because Anxiety, and Envy are portrayed specifically as negative emotions, and Embarassment kind of is too though to a lesser extent, Ennui is more of a much more neutral one, in that I feel like if they were the only emotion to show up instead of all four of them, then there wouldnt have been a problem and Ennui would have perfectly been able to aid the current main cast without causing issues, Boredom is kind of the only reason Anxiety doesnt immediately go off the rails, as any time she starts to get jittery, Ennui is the one to take over and resolve the issue, I agree they could have had more stuff to do, but I personally dont agree that they were pointless. Envy was the one who didnt really add much to the film to be honest, she felt less like envy and more like Anxiety's number 2, I liked her in the film but if you asked me to single out any specific one as the "least useful" it'd personally be Envy. I wasnt a huge fan of the film but this is a great video otherwise!
I feel like this is one of the best sequels ever. It is so well thought out, spot on, and hilarious. There were many points where my theater (mostly grown adults) laughed out loud and everyone clapped at the end. Pixar really nailed this one.
@@theaveragecritic3308 Absolutely not! Villains are evil down to their core, and their intentions are to cause havoc destruction to anyone or anything. But the antagonist can have good intentions, they just look and go about it the wrong way.
@@OwenMiller-q2g not all villains I would say but I see your point. There’s a lot of definitions on villain, antagonist, anti-villain and anti-hero. But I love your way of separating it
I would love to see a tv show where we get to see a normal day for Riley. I would just like to see how they all interact when no one is missing. Maybe it would be boring but I’d like to see it
I think inside out is one of those movies that can have multiple sequels never feel old because it’s so many different people and things we go though in life like inside out 3 can be about going to college and being on your own for the first time inside 4 can be about being a new parent and wondering what the right way to take care of a child and they can make other movies about other human that talk about losing a family members, redemption, losing your passion, (and i know Disney not going to do this but talking about someone being gay and being in the closet) it’s so many stories they can talk about and it will never feel forced because the mind of so complicated
I personally felt like the emotions didn’t fully grasp “too much optimism is toxic” and inside out 2 didn’t explain(again) how emotions feel different emotions than themselves, like how come joy can cry? Do emotions have sub-emotion department of their own? Also maybe it was inevitable but i dont think i saw enough from all emotions. It kinda defeats the collaborative effort of emotions being the key point.
i totally agree with you on how there wasnt enough of all the emotions, but i think the reason why all the emotions can have feelings outside of what they are is simply for the story. i dont think sadness being down and depressed would be as emotionally impactful as joy being down and depressed.
Totally agree with what you said about Ennui, but I feel it can also be extended to Envy as well. If we get a three-quel would definitely be an opportunity to expend on those two emotions and how they would fit in. Anxiety was also portrayed phenomenally, particularly for the younger audience as well, as it shows that anxiety can be good but also life threatening as well if not properly controlled. For example how they displayed Riley’s panic attack was exceptionally done, with Anxiety basically taking over and losing control. This film is a charming masterpiece and I hope we get trilogy in the foreseeable future. Definitely lots of ideas to expand on the franchise! (And possible new emotions 👀)
@@brendonslife4584 she was good but definitely not the best I really like her moments with other characters tho like sleeping in embarrassment hand and hugging Ennui when she got scared
My number one most favorite pixar movie is inside out and my second favorite is elemental and it was a great movie 🎬 🎞 🎥 🎦 📽 👌 🎬 🎞 🎥 and anxiety is one of those misunderstood villains 🧡 ❤️ 😀 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡 and i also love anxiety's and evny's dienamic is awesome 👌 👏 👍 😍 💖 ❤️ 👌 👏 and my favorite characters are joy and envy ❤️ ♥️ 😀 💙 😊 💛💛💛🩵🩵🩵
I actually wish there are 3 movies in the franchise, as I want Riley as an adult, as most kids wants to grow up, and barely understand on how hard it is. It be like pain. So, a movie about understanding a hardship in the university or the citizen ages would be a good sequel, but I might be wrong.
The sequel makes me excited what is next for director Kelsey Mann, he was head of story on Monster university, the Good dinosaur and Onward. However, what made him a passionate figure was when he directed/ written the MU short Party central and that style is implemented proudly in inside out 2
I love Inside Out and the sequel so much! It’s such a great exploration of emotions and self. Especially for kids where things like emotions are hard to understand and visualize. Additionally, I like that it also shows parents a reminder of what being a kid is like and what it’s like being a kid now. Honestly? I would love to see a third or even fourth movie. I just eat up this creative exploration of the human mind.
This is probably my favorite Disney movie now. I’m not sure if I watched the first version but this sequel is great. They definitely got me laughing, (and everyone else in the auditorium) and I loved the plot.
@theaveragecritic3308 if a 3rd movie gets confirmed than I will be satisfied because the franchise doesn't feel complete with just school and high-school
The 2D animated characters and the video game like moment with them were the only thing that bothered me tbh, I felt like they stood out and not in a good way 😅 Otherwise I enjoyed this one!
Inside Out 2 does deliver very well with Anxiety being the antagonist but she isn't the villain but she is my favorite in Inside Out 2 and Inside Out 2 is 10x better than Inside Out the first one.
I cried during most of the movie. I had severe problems anxiety and depression throughout my whole teen years and it all started at about 13. Anxiety being both endeering but a villain type, building this new belief system that I could so very much relate to, felt so personal. The metaphorical use of joy having to go to the back of the head, the fear of joy never coming back and the feeling of having my anxiety take control of me was portrayed so well. The conflicts that riley faced struggling between her past and her future, feeling like she has to grow up to be liked is just such a realistic scenario. And it all happening within 3 days? Shows how quick you can go down that spiral of anxiety and negative beliefs of yourself (I'm not good enough being what really drove me to cry hard) without feeling like you can get out. I could go on and on, I really really loved this movie and it felt like a realistic continuation of the story we loved to learn about in the first one :)
Did anyone else notice joy is the only emotion with a glowing aura I think it’s because she’s the only positive emotion. I fixed the hole of negative with 4 more positive emotions They are Calm, gratitude, care (who was originally AWE), and euphoric which means happiness like ennui means boredom. Calm would be joy’s somewhat love life
If the first movie is a 10/10 then I would personally give this a 9/10. It is incredible like you said and definitely an amazing sequel. I also feel like ennui doesn’t have to be such a big part of the movie because boredom isn’t that huge of an emotion.
I mean I suppose a lot of emotions cross over. It feels intentional which some emotions get on with other. Which is why Fear likes anxiety but I didn’t mind it
all emotions overlap. thats why the new emotions take a back seat for the adults! and anxiety explained it, anxiety is a fear of the future while fear is fear of the present. and embarrassment is more self conscious than afraid-- as for ennui idk how that's sad to you, it was more neutral.
Oooh wow okay. I almost love that idea but also that would make me very scared about Pixar dealing with those types of mental heath issues. Inside out is obviously very serious but also incredibly funny so doing such serious topics would be so difficult to pull off at the same time keeping the film funny and entertaining. But if anyone can pull it off it’s them! Hope you enjoyed the video! ❤️
I think the functions of the new emotions were still undercooked. It was brilliant to frame anxiety as the analyst with risk management projections. But what about the other 3. They could have done so much more to explain how they influence Riley's actions. Something like Envy unhealthily fixating on things Riley don't have (e.g. friends, red hair, etc). Ennui rejecting the idea of sticking with Riley's friends since it's an emotion about dissatisfaction with inaction and the status quo. And embarrassment bringing up past lonely experiences to justify Anxiety's negative projections.
Yeah I know what you mean, they leave a lot emotions to be sidelined for anxiety’s story, but I think at the expense of how good the story is, I’m ready to let it slide! Hope you enjoyed the video!
One of the best animated sequels ever made hands down and already one of the best animated movies so far this decade along with Puss in Boots the Last Wish, Del Toro’s Pinocchio and Spider-Man Across the Spider Verse. Anxiety was also the perfect antagonist and is one of my favorites alongside Goldie and Death from Last Wish and Miguel from Across the Spider Verse
In my honest opinion this is a well good sequel unlike other sequels that they aren't as good as their first, Introducing new emotions, Riley's next journey after hitting puberty, And anxiety acts like an antagonist in inside out 2 but she has to make that decision to change Riley for her own good along with the other new emotions, In my Opinion it's a 9.7/10
Still yet to see this movie, but as someone who loved the first Inside Out, I cannot wait to check this out. This video just made the wait even more thrilling, so thank you for giving us great reviews, fella
Your welcome. Sorry if a spoil anything. I try to to be as vague as possible but spoiler warning is always there. I can fully recommend it and I hope you enjoy it when you do!
@@theaveragecritic3308 don't worry, if I get spoiled that's my fault for clicking on the video Plus I've already watched Schaffrillas review as soon as It came out soooo yeah
GO WATCH IT. it’s was great I laughed at a lot of the jokes and it’s easy to connect with all the characters and Riley feels like she is actually a person
average critic there’s a RU-vidr called obliviousben and he thinks inside out 2 is mid and thinks it’s in the quality levels of incredible 2.his video is called pixer is dead but dream lives on
I get to go see this tomorrow with my wife and though some stuff was spoiled for me I am SO excited to see it, as someone with anxiety myself and struggled a lot as a teenager due to a multitude of reasons. I'm glad they waited to release this movie until we were older. I was 15 when the first movie came out but only recently now at 24 am able to process my trauma and better understand myself now to be able to fully understand the sequel and Riley.
3.02: Here's an answer for you: (Spoilers), Ennui actually plays a big role in the movie due to her phone's Remote console app. If she wasn't a character, Sadness wouldn't have been able to temporarily halt Riley from stealing the Coach's notebook, alerting Anxiety to Sadness's presence and trapping her. This then causes Embarrassment to defect even more, seeing how Anxiety is willing to completely immobilize someone to get her way. Then Embarrassment becomes the first person to pull out Anxiety's new, jagged belief! While some characters appear less than others, butterfly effects are often used to help character development. Essentially, if Ennui didn't make the cut, Embarrassment's character arc- something a lot of viewers loved- would have been a lot slower and less impactful. Great video! Thanks for helping people decide wether or not to watch the movie!
I watched it and I must say it delivered harder then expected but I gotta ask what’s ur favorite part btw as a teenager I never struggled with anxiety envy or other stuff caused by being a teen (I don’t wanna get banned for saying it) but basically I focused on my faith which yeah is a great thing but also the anxiety I did feel is much diffrent then the one Riley feels mine is more like a impending sence of doom slower thought but just more terrible no physical stuff but just feeling terrible so yeah that’s what I wanted to say and what’s ur favorite part have a great day and life please rply
I am relieved that the sequel avoided being woke "for modern audiences"...., it stayed INSIDE OUT....veteran characters face new struggles, new characters already have fan interest.... New territories are explored and new perils thrill audiences.
I like that anxiety has layers. Rather than being an absolutely awful person like most Disney/pixar villains are. Anxiety is misguided and only really becomes a problem out of fear and concern, not realising that she’s become controlling and oppressive
In the first movie, with just the 5, fear was always my favorite, but now that i have 9 to pick from now, i gotta be real ennuis mu favorite. I can't get enough of her she's so chilll 🩶
