What’s good! Today I will be checking out the first ever Disney's Pixar film on this channel titled “Inside Out” If you enjoyed the video don’t forget to LIKE, COMMENT, & SUBSCRIBE!
MOVIE SUMMARY
Riley (Kaitlyn Dias) is a happy, hockey-loving 11-year-old girl, but her world turns upside-down when she & her parents move to San Francisco. Riley's emotions -- led by Joy (Amy Poehler) -- try to guide her through this difficult, life-changing event. However, the stress of the move brings Sadness (Phyllis Smith) to the forefront. When Joy and Sadness are inadvertently swept into the far reaches of Riley's mind, the only emotions left in Headquarters are Anger, Fear and Disgust.

It's so fun to see reactors go through the journey of "We have to get rid of Sadness" to "We need to let Sadness do her thing". The movie works at teaching its lesson!

I don't get how people can't see how meta it is, so how could they get angry with something that is just a reflection of Riley's experiences? It's not like they're normal characters, they're emotions.

Absolutely! Loved that he caught that and said it aloud. Also appreciated the highlighted “Joy’s understanding how important Sadness really was,” and the need to express these feelings with others so as to work through them. 💯 However, the “compartmentalization” comment is a misunderstood lesson. After all, it’s a defense mechanism; an adult’s way of maintaining noncomplex views/memories of difficult situations. All emotions are real and important, deserving of validation. Hence the movie ending with Riley’s memories being made of mixed emotions, rather than a singular emotion. :)

That "take her to the moon for me" breaks me every time. It sounds almost like a parent letting go of their child for whatever reason, but much sadder because Bingbong ceased to exist and Riley would forget about him forever.

the saddest part for me is it reminds me that I had an imagination friend too, I remember the feeling and blur memories that I had one, but I cant remember what my imagination friend was. I don;t know how when and why he or she sacrificed him/herself for me in a dark moment to cheer me up. but I will bring myself to the moon, I promise.

Let's just be clear: If it is violence to hit a person your own age who is capable of defending themself, then it is *extremely* violent to hit someone who is incapable of defending themself (a child!) - no matter the skin colour! Break the cycle of violence!!!

It's crazy to me that if you even THREATEN a grown adult, you can have charges put against you, but if you beat your child (who not only can't defend themselves, but doesn't want to because they love & fear you) then that's just discipline. And it statistically is at best, slightly worse than alternative methods of discipline & more likely to push your child to be a criminal. If you believe the only way to discipline your child is to beat them, you shouldn't be a parent because clearly you don't have the maturity for it.

Raising kids is tricky. You don't want to be too much of one thing, not even "too loving"'. Raise your kid giving everything they want to keep them happy, they become spoiled brats. Raising your kid by holding their hand in anything they're supposed to do alone, they don't know how to do anything. Raising your kid in a way where you console them every time they have a problem, they become overly dependent on you for the most minor inconvenience. I hope I don't need to explain what happens if you go to the other extreme (Neglecting your child, being apathetic to their feelings, and absent parenting). There's a difference between using force to beat a child and discipline a child. One or two spankings will do just fine, anything more than that is just sadistic. You don't need to make them bleed and turn black-and-blue from bruises to make your point across.

@@Kittsim As someone who works with suicidal people on a daily basis all I can say is, a parent should ask themself: "is my child old enough to understand reason?" If yes, reason with your child. If you spank them they won't reason "love" as the reason, i GUARANTEE you that. If no, spanking your child will scar them cuz they won't undersand the reason why you're spanking them. In no situation is hurting your child the right choice. ever.

@@Kittsim "Spanking has been shown to make parents feel better." And that's the problem. That's not disciplining or spanking, that's beating your child. The difference between disciplining and beating your child is the intention. A disciplining parent would know that using force should be used responsibly and sparingly, and that good verbal communication is still necessary.

Beating children doesn't actually teach them right from wrong or why their behavior is bad. It just teaches them that if they do something again you will physically hurt them. If you can't discipline and guide your children in the right direction without resorting to violence you're not a very good parent.

Kids stop giving a shit about you if you beat them, they’ll just be scared or angry at you as they grow up. They’ll just learn to care about not getting you mad, not about the person you are.

@@ednif the “good book” is telling you that hitting your children is in any way shape or form okay.. or even in the vicinity, then it isn’t a good book. Nor is it a religion worth following. You’re talking about a book where a god murdered the first born of every family that didn’t put blood above their door.. who supposedly drowned the entire planet.. because he didn’t like his creations. I wouldn’t base my thoughts on that book. Let alone let it shape my life.

Half way through it made me so sad to hear you say you would beat the feeling of anger out of a child, I hope that is something that you reconsider. Emotions are definitely not easy to go through and kids need their parents to help and guide them gently. Anger can't get rid of anger, it only fuels it, even if it is suppressed in the moment, it will explode later. Parents can guide children with love even if they don't like their reactions, hitting a child doesn't need to ever be the answer.

Bing Bong gets me every time 😢 as adults, we know that's a piece of childhood being left behind. We're all grinding through life, and as we've grown, we had to keep leaving little pieces of that childlike spirit behind. It's tough out here.

I work with adults with learning disabilities. They've all got the dirty minds of ten year old boys. Innuendos and fart jokes are a constant, as well as just general silliness and childish behaviour. Growing up sucks. It never takes a new staff member long to settle into being a weirdo and silly like the rest of us, and stop caring so much what other ppl are thinking about us. It relieves a lot of day to day life pressure, even if the general public don't "get" us 🤣

lol i love your reactions but the amount of times you expressed wanting to spank Riley in the first 5 minutes as she was a toddler was crazy 😂 and throughout the movie . You didn’t once seem to mention what she was going through internally at all in the first half. She just moved away from her friends and everything she knows . She was trying to be happy for her parents and wasn’t mature enough to talk to her parents about how she felt . It turned into anger after the first day of school cause now everything feels bad and it feels like it’s all their fault & her feelings don’t matter 😭. She’s having an emotional issue and solving it with physical punishment would only surpress happy and sadness more . Riley would’ve gotten real angry and rebellious

About the meaningful purpose of each emotion, they said it in the begining of the movie: Fear keeps Riley safe, Disgust keeps her from being poisoned and Anger is very passionate about things being fair.

I also really enjoy that while Joy is kinda like the ring leader for Riley’s emotions, mom’s is Sadness and Dad’s is Anger. The other emotions help temper and enrich the core emotion into other emotions like Empathy (Sadness) and Passion (Anger)

You talking about getting the belt when it comes to dealing with a child’s emotions made my stomach turn. It’s really sad to see. And don’t tell me you still turned out right despite the spankings, because your immediate willingness to turn violent on a defenseless child is far from right. It‘s horrible and weak. I got hit once by my dad and many times by school mates and it severely broke my heart every time.

it is wild because if someone ran up to you on the street and did that you would react defensively or get the police or try to toss them in jail, how is that a tool of teaching .. why would you want that in your house and the kid is already probably confused and trying to figure things out and you are just going to make them more perplexed and realize they have no trust and safety and loyalty at the core with the only people they have to rely on, such a shame

There are more reactors talking about being spanked as a kid and they all want to lock up sadness in the beginning. I think that's interesting. Raised to be tough, maybe? A "don't you dare cry" over something small? Or you just need to be tough in a harsh environment? Or is it a male thing. I think researches could learn a lot from analyzing reactors watching this movie 🤔

I think it's most adult's automatic reaction to want to lock sadness up because they want to see Riley be happy. Notice his reaction when the mom said it's important to be happy for the sake of others. They don't remember what it's like to be a kid so if anything, these reactors you're seeing a pattern from were likely required to be more mature for their age with a lot of responsibility as children. Simply put, these are adults who didn't have a carefree childhood.

I'll just leave this phrase here "stop crying or I'll give you something to cry about" and/or "fix your face" They tried to raise us tough to deal with the world, and to a degree it worked, but it also did a lot of internal damage. Can't speak about all black folk but it's a common experience (man or woman).

Man I haven't cried during this movie since the first time I watched it. But watching your realization of BingBong's importance and not quite being able to express why it hit so hard... tears. Favorite Pixar movie! As much as we try to classify certain emotions or parts of ourselves as "negative" or "positive", it's all still US in the end. And if it doesn't get proper attention and respect, great harm can be done.

All emotions can be harmful when not managed and balanced. Anger can cloud your judgment. Sadness takes away motivation. Disgust can lead to prejudice. Fear can lead to stagnancy. And Joy can become toxic positivity. This movie helps open up a serious discussion about identifying and managing our feelings before they control us. Emotions are not for the weak, not having control of them is a sign of weakness.

Bing bong is my man. I was genuinely torn up because what that means is the the Innocence of a child being left behind as they grow. That little side of you when you were a young boy, or girl, that gets left behind as we grow into todays world with the standards and maturity the world demands. Wonder how many things we’ve already forgotten that we held in high regard when we were little. Ngl sometimes with how life goes I want to go back to that innocent time for a second 😅

One thing I find interesting is how the child has joy running the show, the mum has sadness running it and the dad has anger, I’m sure when the parents were kids they had joy running the show too… goes to show the changes life can take

To me the movie was basically saying the parents are secretly unhappily married. In addition to Sadness being the emotion in charge, the mother's fantasies are of an imaginary man who ISN'T her husband, not even an idealized version of him, it's just someone else. The self-imposed, societally reinforced pressures of manhood and hypermasculinity make it easy enough to understand why the father's chief emotion is anger, but while at the dinner table, the time to be focused on his family, he's instead also checked out thinking of the hockey game. They're not actually happy together, with some combination of Riley and their own resignation likely being the glue that keeps them that way. The movie never explores it, but it's the way things are, much like actual life. Most of the time, "happily ever after" really looks like, "eh, we're here and we're making it work". Though it kind of disappoints me that all this seems to flying over this guy's head.

That's actually an interesting conclusion. I never thought of it that way, but you're right. It makes sense that sadness would evolve into empathy as Riley grows. All the pain she experiences growing up would result in her feeling empathy for anyone else in a similar situation, just like how her parents empathized with her situation about missing home. Which is pretty much the message of the movie. Great stuff!

Counselors love this movie.... it explains emotions so well. Sadness & Joy bring us together as humans.... that's why they're the main ones.

I love how the whole point of this movie is that we have to let our emotions run their course or else things will get very out of control very fast. Kids especially it’s so important to remember that they have access to all these emotions but their brains aren’t developed enough to experience them AND be logical people. None of Riley’s emotions know what to do because Riley doesn’t know what to do

The father was ruled by anger as his emotional leader. What’s really unfortunate here is that he didn’t try to understand the Enron behind the words. Also, how can you spank Riley for reacting? She literally did not have happiness there - it was only going to be fear, disgust, or anger. The dad did nothing to build a relationship! I was spanked as a kid and beat and it does not make you a better adult!

I can relate to Sadness as a child because I always cried everytime Daddy left for work lol, I was very clingy. :D Love this movie, super important lesson about feeling *all* your feelings.

The reason we have a hard time seeing Bing bong's death scene or him disappearing it triggers us because deep down inside we all once imagine a friend to be in our lives. And to us they were real and we all had a wonderful childhood. At least in my case I know that's why this scene hit me so hard I remember my imaginary friend and it's kind of like those small memories you don't think about, but they do still exist inside us somewhere in our hearts and memories. But the emotions are a lot but Sadness is correct sadness is needed in our lives weather we can relate to or not is up to other people but to me I can see how Sadness can make us show Empathy for others and also bring in help when we need it, because when your sad it's the time most try to listen. if you try to hide all your emotions like Joy tries to do, it's not a good thing, in that case it's kind of toxic in my opinion because you can't live your life like that, and the reasons Sandess is reacting this way, it's because Raily's body is changing, and her moving away caused the emotions to become stronger and more mixed of confusion and sadness.

I saw this movie in theaters, and it obviously wrecked me because I’m a human being lol. It’s now my 6 year old daughter’s favorite movie, so we watch it almost every day 🥲 seeing it from a parent’s perspective hits hard. When Joy is in the memory dump and looks at all of Riley’s old baby memories, I break every time. She speaks like a mom. It’s easy to fall in that trap of “I need to keep my kid as happy as possible to be a good parent”. But that doesn’t prepare them for life, and kids have all kinds of big feelings they don’t understand yet. You have to show up for them all, and teach them they don’t have to force joy when times are tough.

The nostalgic essence at the beginning...missing the sound of the light bouncing and the original excitement when we saw the castle and the arch and fireworks in 2D animation...we couldn't just skip it. We had to wait until it finished before the movie started. 😂 these kids now have no clue what that feeling is. Or waking up at 8 on a Saturday to watch cartoons for an hour with commercials before going outside and having to run home when the street lamps came on.

Y'know, hearing Addison keep referring to the memories as marbles, it made me think about that phrase "lose your marbles". I mean, it fits with the premise of the movie, now that I think about it.

U have great observations. Our imagination can help us cope when all our emotions can't. However, Binging or Imagination is sacrificed the older we get because we are able to control all of our emotions better. Imagination is no longer needed as a coping mechanism. Sadness is just as vital as all the other emotions. There is nothing wrong with sadness. It helps u process things and destress to keep things balance. Great job on all of your perceptions.

@@ednBruh it’s a kid😭 Just teach the kid and if the kid still doesn’t respect the parent, simply give them consequences and tell them WHY you’re doing what you do. Ground them, take away certain privileges, but try not to beat a literal kid. I love your videos man and this is probably just how you grew up. Same here, but it brought terrible consequences to my family. As a fellow Christian, I know that there’s always a better way!

You should seriously consider psychological health since you clearly have a lot you need to process and work through if you think using a belt on a child is anything related to love, and using the warped view of scripture that you CHOOSE as the interpretation you want to follow as justification is a disgrace to everything Jesus stood for. It makes sense if you psychologically must force yourself to believe this, because if it isn't true, then how can you conceptualize the abuse you faced as a child as worth it in the end. It can be much easier to believe it made you stronger than to accept that you were cruelly mistreated and dehumanized. You deserve to have your autonomy respected, and so does every child. I pray you get the help you need. I'm begging you to please reconsider.

Telling a parent “Shut Up” is not acceptable communication whatsoever. Giving a whooping for certain behaviors is because I LOVE the child and want them to understand what behaviors can have immediate consequences. @@edn Where does it say that in the Bible? A child says shut up and you hit them, then what? What was the lesson? What did they learn from that other than to be scared their parent will hurt them? If you’re gonna talk to them about their behavior and tell them why it’s wrong after you hit them then what was the point of hitting them? If you said shut up and your child hit you, how will you deal with that? How can you explain it’s wrong from them to hit you for that behavior when you hit them for the same thing? Where does the line get drawn? Why is it okay to hit a small defenseless child for that behavior but not your parents, or your spouse, or your friends, or your coworkers, or strangers?

Read the full scripture for context the word “chasteneth” is used and in case you don’t know the definition of chastisement it deals with physical punishment. And “betimes” means in short time or occasionally. Guidance is intended and and an occasional whooping when a child acts out of line is a method to lead them in the right direction and to understand not only right and wrong but that consequences can come from that. -Adison

I appreciate you for tuning in much love! But all jokes aside If a kids tells their parents to “Shut up” that is definitely grounds for a spanking. Disciplining your children with spankings is safe. My parents did it and I thank them for it. I’d rather discipline my child if they talked crazy to me like that out of love than have them say it to a stranger or someone who doesn’t care about them and they get into an altercation and potentially get seriously hurt if not killed for saying whatever comes to their mind. And this is not a concept my community came up with this is direction given from the good book! -Adison

I agree. Often teaches children to grow up and accept violence as love. End up in relationships where they are told "I'm only hurting you because I love you. This is for your own good to teach you to be better". This why domestic abuse of all genders is so high. @@aleiaknightwith respect, I think violence verses discipline is many times twisted. Yes I’m sure some think what they’re doing is discipline, which is where there is a problem. But usually adults are thankful for them once they grow up since that kept them from worse situations later. The point isn’t “beating” children to discipline them. Animal kingdom does use an association to those triggers as a lesson many times, and we are part of the animal kingdom. Out of love not malice. And thankfully we as intelligent creatures know the difference.. It’s not used over every single issue, mostly it is a hug and a talk.

it's interesting to think about, i feel like if a kid has been informed and nurtured then there is no room for bad behavior? and if something is out of line then there are consequences and that means people see you as an impolite or improper or mean person, people are who they are, beating them to stifle their agency just makes it worse, and it puts your ides of what is acceptable on them whereas maybe if the kid is on a sports team or classroom with many varying perspectives others would only find the "terrible" behavior only annoying or not so bad at all .. i would guess it is better to guide the child to seek out people that maintain health in their life, rather than imposing your flawed preferences

..I feel kinda bad for you. In the black community, violence against your own children is not only seen as acceptable, but inevitable. That's deeply sad. No child deserves violence against them, especially from the GROWN ADULTS whose job and responsibility it is to raise them right in the first place. If you feel the need, as an adult, to physically harm a child, your own child, you did NOT do your job, imo. Unless your child is literally a diagnosed sociopath who actively harms others, there's no reason to put hands on a child - and even then, they need mental health help. Not beatings..

The Lovely Bones is just one of those movies that is really intense and I would like to watch y’all react to. Its a super natural drama that is originally a novel. Your Harry Potter reactions are my favorite so far though!
