Maybe as you get older that happens. Maybe after puberty. It’s going to be interesting to see how the new movie explains the new motions making sense when the adults only have 5. Perhaps they’ll “move out” by the end of the film, or maybe there’s a different place they can stay that’s not “in control”.

@@MoviesinMinutes not just the parents, even Jordan (that one boy at the very end) and all the characters in the credits scenes only have the 5 emotions, and the gender of their emotions are all based on the gender of the human, and the emotions all have some common trait that’s on the human. E.G: the dad has a moustache, so all of his emotions have a moustache Also, why is joy the only emotion with an aura around her?

it could just be since those were her own, they don't need the costume identifications like a haircut or accessory or mustache to identify whose emotions we're looking at. When we see mom's they look like mom, when we see dad's the look like dad. one needn't say they looked male or female except insofar as the human characters were all cisgender that I recall so they would been presenting that way. AS FOR RILEY, well she's not a hardened adult yet for one, where in puberty is when all that gender identity and sex pressure comes to head and tomboys start "acting girly" as I've heard sporty little sisters when all grown up say. Also, Riley is young and part of a well informed generation with the first decently informed parents in the history of modern western society, so hopefully she's smart enough not to be limited to a contrived existence spent fitting-in inside either one of the gender-role-fetish-ideals and has both feminine and masculine energies mastered and incorporated into her human prowess, abilities, beliefs, and identity. Did you take her for some basic bey-ache? No. She's a scoring assassin at hockey and pony tailed pretty young girl. Hopefully she doesn't fall into all her emotions each all being stereotypically singularly gendered, like Johnny Lawrence and Jessica Simpson. There's room for drag queens like Donald Trump and feminine straightish men like Michael Strahan and masculine lesbian women or nonbinary like Britney Griner and a gay business titan like Peter Theil and a transgender woman like Caitlyn Jenner to all beat the brakes off this lifetime in turns of living it and loving it and proving if there is any merit to a meritocracy or non-heresy in describing humans as part of a hierarchy that they sit on top, rich and fit and when it comes to their area's history, all over it.
