I’m so happy that they showed two girls in chairs! Mobility impairment is a huge spectrum and it can look very different in different people.

For me personally, losing anonymity in a public space was one of the biggest challenges of life in a wheelchair. It may not seem like a big deal at first, but think about how you’d feel if all eyes are on you whenever you use the glass elevator, sit in the hall because you don’t have a suitable desk, use a portable ramp, get on a bus, get your wheelchair in/out of your vehicle, and more, every single time. Even if you’re an extremely outgoing, extroverted person, think about this happening all day, every day. Sometimes you just want to pick up your kids after school without attracting a crowd of gawkers. I understand it’s human nature to notice differences and most people aren’t malicious about it, but it doesn’t make it any more comfortable.

Mr. Rodgers had a great show where he featured a boy in a wheelchair and later we got to see that same boy as a grown man getting on Bart San Francisco and doing his job as an Architect. Hope you can find that on youtube?

Ok so the first gal that was riding in a glass elevator, she needs to realize that there ARE still gentleman in the world, and holding a door or opening a door for a lady is still ok. Don’t assume it’s just because you have a disability is why they do kind things for you. Let a gentleman be a gentleman for you, you don’t want to be a prude. 😉

I thought that guy was actually pretty rude about it. He kept insisting after she said she wanted to do it herself.

I really enjoy opening doors for myself doesn't matter if its a gentleman or a lady, whether it's because i'm a woman or disabled, and I couldn't care less if politely declining makes me a prude
