@@loupgarou1261 That's awesome. I've traced my maternal grandmothers family to 1553. My ancestors from Chappell, Essex were Thomas and Anne Abbott. Their son George was a tailor in London when he came to America arriving in Boston and he was there and helped with the establishment of Watertown, MA. But, his descendents moved down to North and South Carolina. It's important to know our roots. With the state of the U.S. today makes me wish my ancestors never left. I may be moving to Scotland if the bigots take over this country.

While still regal and and everything I have come to associate with her late majesty Queen Elizabeth II; I never thought I would see the pageantry of a royal funeral. As my only one was that of the late Princess Diana and I'm the age of HRH Prince William. My tears fall for all of the UK and the Commonwealth, her family, but more so for His Majesty King Charles III. During one of the hymns in St Georges Chapel there was a close up of him bloodshot eyes trying to hold back his tears where I knew it's not customary to touch the sovereign other than a handshake; but i saw a grieving son who within 18 months lost both his parents. I saw a man in need of comfort. I respect customs of other countries the world over but just a little love can change someone's day. Long may he reign, God Save the King- King Charles III

You thought that you, at age 40, would be outlived by a woman who was 96 years old? Why would you think that? Were you given some unfortunate medical diagnosis? Barring that, you're likely to see another royal funeral when Charles dies. You may even outlive William.

Where I moved to the competency of doctors is not high and for me to move to a location with the doctors I need would be a miracle. I have to go for a screening to see what the status is of that area to see if by the grace of God it has stayed in remission. @@khelisiesalvatore8173 God bless you. I hope and pray that your health remains good and you live a long, happy life like HM the Queen did. Along with Diana, Princess of Wales, I watched (on TV) the funeral of HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, and it too was a grand affair. But not as grand as her daughter's yesterday. As for the intense and understandable sadness of our King, he has his beloved Queen by his side, and a large extended family, and many friends, all of whom are allowed to touch him in the same ways they always have. I am sure that in private, our grieving royal family will find the comfort they need. The expressions of sympathy from people all over the world have been appreciated by the royal family. They and the people of the UK and Commonwealth will mourn and, over time, the pain will lessen, it always does. We were blessed to have known her as our Queen. The Daily Mail showed today that they are now all buried immediately under the marble stone in this individually built vault and on racking - nothing to do with the main vault which the Queen and Philip were brought up from last night . It is an individual crypt solely for George VI , The Queen mother , Princess Margaret (ashes) , Prince Philip and The Queen. All are now immediately under the slab and stonemasons will add the three extra names to the slab over the next few months of Philip , Margaret and Queen Elizabeth II

I think the point of the memorial chapels is that those Monarchs aren't in the main vault, but instead are separate with their own immediate family. Otherwise there would be no need to bring them out of it after they are lowered in following the dedication in St George's Chapel.

As I understand it, following the public service of committal, Her Majesty's remains R.I.P. were lowered into the main Royal vault under St Georges chapel (where her late husband's remains have been kept since his death) However, her remains and that of her late husband were to be removed later during a private family service and both bodies were to be interred together in the vault in the George VI chapel, where the remains of Her Majesty's father King George VI, and her mother Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, and her sister Princess Margaret rest.

There is no connection between the King George VI Vault and the larger Royal Vault. There is no narrow corridor between them. The narrator probably means that the coffins lowered down from the altar pass through a narrow corridor into the larger Royal Vault. In the case of Elizabeth and Philip, they were temporarily placed in the larger Royal Vault. Then they were brought back up into the church and moved into the George VI Chapel vault. Then they were placed inside that vault with Elizabeth's parents and sister.

so the black marble is only a "cover". Initially I've tought the marble was a closing door for a vertical cavity in which the coffins were "stacked up" with some sort of "George/Elizabeth Mother/Elizabeth II/Philip" order (from the bottom to the top). Now I understand, if I'm right, that the marble covers a/opens to an underground cavity/room in which every coffin has an own place (and, if I'm right again, there still are two place for Carlo and Camilla)

My question is how the coffins are manoeuvred into their final positions and how the extra shelving is added when required (unless it's already there). My guess is there's a concealed underground entrance not mentioned on the plans and there are people down there to arrange all of that.

There are missing details here. Are coffins lowed into the floor of the chapel itself? If so, is the black marker slab lifted, or is there another way in. Are the coffins directly under the floor/slab, or is there some type of visitor vault under the floor, where the coffins are stacked-placed? I ask about this because much has been said and shown about “the royal vault” under the chapel in recent days - yet it now appears that the main royal vault will be a part of all this for a few hours only at best, on the 19th - with the George VI vault (never seen) being the far more important location, due to its permanence, as Elizabeth’s and Phillip’s ultimate final resting place….

The coffins are lowered through the opening at the top once the slab is removed, but how they get into position on the shelving I'm not quite sure. There must be a hidden service entrance and staff down there (out of view) to manouevre them into place. I doubt they simply climb down a ladder because that is undignified and potentially unsafe.

This is very interesting. I have an interest in architecture and always wondered how three pairs of coffins could fit beneath such a small side chapel but you mentioned that the vault itself is along a short under-floor corridor. Does this mean that the coffins are actually beneath the main floor of St George's Chapel? I presume that, however interred, memorials to HM The Queen and to HRH The Prince Philip will be plaques on the Chapel wall as, again, there seems little room for another ledger stone. Many thanks.
@loujohnson3735
@loujohnson3735 2 года назад
From what I understand, the Royal Vault isn't directly connected to King George VI memorial chapel, HM The Queen and HRH Prince Philip's coffins were moved back up from the vault after a private committal service and moved to the memorial chapel. Underneath there is a 10 by 14ft tomb, 18ft underground, accessed via the ledger stone, with the coffins stacked like those in the Royal Vault. Hope this helps.

You mentioned once lowered into George VI memorial chapel they will pass along a narrow corridor into the main vault. Can you tell me is that within the confines of the new memorial chapel foundation or a narrow corridor leading into the main foundations of the main chapel. I'm assuming it is within the confines of the memorial chapel only - which leads to my confusion - as the chapel is very small for any corridor beneath to lead anywhere. Consequently I'm guessing it is literally only a small space for only four coffins stacked one upon the over two on one side and and two on the other with the Queens sisters ashes having to be placed in her mothers coffin due to limited space. So can you clarify if the narrow corridor you mention leads beyond the confines of the memorial chapel or not, would really like to know and would be grateful if you can explain. Thank you.

@@RoyalReviewer Thanks, sorry to be dumb, but I'm still unclear, a corridor from the main chapel or a corridor within the confines of the memorial chapel foot print? The memorial chapel is too small to have a corridor from what I can see in the photos. @@davidtanycoed I think we're meant to not know. But there must be a separate corridor going to a small separate vault underneath, otherwise they would not have to have been brought back up. Very informative. I didn’t get the best look of the chapel while I was there so it was awesome to see up close photos in this video. I wonder if the chapel is full now given that it was designed for 3 monarchs plus spouses… or will King Charles III and his spouse go there. Would be nice if it’s full so that it completes King George’s wish for his ‘us four’ to be together in peace. Well, ‘us four’ + Philip. But I’m sure the King won’t mind.

I read there's actually room for six coffins. During burials the slab is removed and the coffins are lowered through the hole, but what I don't understand is how the coffins are neatly stacked if the only access is from the top. Is there another concealed entrance and someone assists manouevring them into position? If the coffins are stacked then what about the next layer being fifted before the next coffin can come in? Given that the Queen and Prince Philip were buried at the same time - my guess is that the extra layers on the shelving were probably already in place and there were people down below out of sight manouevring the coffins into position. It looks like the coffins are lowered straight down the middle and then have to be moved sideways into position. You cannot have a break during a royal funeral for people to do DIY.
