I used to have all the Ralph McQuarrie portfolios and had all these paintings on my wall when I was a teenager. Just an absolutely awesome artist.

"KAH-LIE-OH-PEE", and Max is an Ortolan, which is a bipedal alien race, so those are his hands in the picture. His feet are probably working the pedals of the instrument down below.

@@carlyking it seems that Star Wars itself is unclear & inconsistent about Ortolan limbs. Regarding the statuette, I initially assumed a hyperextension of the joints optimized access or comfort while playing, but a brief Google Image search suggests this limb placement is, itself, unusual. So I guess the *real* answer is... [Hears the snap-hiss of a lightsaber, a red glow, and a mouse-eared silhouette looming threateningly] ...whatever our good friends at Disney say is true 👍🏾

@@carlykingthe description says it’s based on the concept for Max, so sounds like what they were thinking of going with I.e. using legs/feet in place of arms/hands. In TPM, George seemed to used that idea for Sebulba’s race (“dug” I think Anakin says?)

It's my nephew's birthday today and he is OBSESSED with B-Wings. I wish I had thought to track down a print of that McQuarrie B-Wing painting 😭😆 He loved the Micro Squad Imperial Shuttle I got him for Christmas, did not put that thing down for 6 hrs strait lol But he did like remind me almost every hour on the hour that he really needs a B-Wing. I was like as soon as they drop it you will have it! I got him the the Micro Squadron Battle if Coruscant & Destroy The Death Star Target sets so I'm excited to see how he likes those today! Can't wait till you do the TESB portfolio video!

In 1977 I was 14 years old. For Christmas that year I wanted some Star Wars merch. Not happening. There was none. The ONLY two things my parents could find was the Star Wars soundtrack on eight track tape which I listened to incessantly. The other thing was the Star Wars portfolio by Ralph McQuarrie. I still have them. I would sit in the dining room and listen to the soundtrack and go through the portfolio pictures one at a time. They were fabulous and something I’ll always cherish.

Wonderful artwork! I was particularly amazed by the illustration with the B-Wings and the Star Destroyer, it would have been a great scene for the movie! And I agree, the fight between Vader and Luke is awesome 👍 also notice that Luke's lightsaber was blue instead of green, it was a change done even after some trailers, surprising 😱 Happy New Year!! 😊

Beautiful artwork. Def looking forward to checking out the Empire portfolio if your dad can find it. Also, I saw that Amazon is selling the Star Wars Ralph McQuarrie art books. They're rather expensive, but I'm sure they're worth it. And, I saw a live-action Star Wars fan film yesterday called, "Wingman" on RU-vid. It's well-made and has X-Wings going against TIE Fighters!

I just want to say you did great work to telling us about this man who working with George lucas to creating star wars you are a true star wars fans and I watch a documentary it call empire of dream it tell us how star wars was made and Ralph Macquarie on the documentary and it on disney plus. I don't think those are originals from the original films. Those are re-release. What gives it away is that singing creature with tiny little lips. She came along in the re-release when they redone the original three films.

Pretty sure Sy was in the original. Just not animated like in the re-release. Edit: Yup, Wookiepedia confirms. Puppet in the original, replaced with singing CGI
