Rita Konig welcomes us into her London home, created by combining two flats. Eager to have more room for herself and her daughter, Rita Kong bought the flat above her London home and merged them to create one cohesive space that has all the trademarks of her design, including inventive details, bold use of pattern and a blending of the beautiful and the practical.
“There wasn’t a sadness of leaving a place, but I was aware that we were, sort of, going to be rubbing a lot out,” explains Rita as she reflects on the process of renovating her London flat. There is, however, one tell-tale sign of its previous life: the heavy wool C&C Milano striped curtains. “I think I spent eight months paying for them,” admits Rita, with a laugh. Awe Rita, thank you for allowing us in your delightful home! I love the commentary too. You've got to have something a bit ugly , a room can get too pleased with itself. I love residences that look like someone actually lives there as opposed to looking like a showroom. I am not a matchy matchy person, so a collected over time, somewhat eclectic style feels inviting and comfortable. Every room has a story. For me, this is a lovely interior with a very pretty "I want to sit and sip a cup of tea" garden space. Thank you for this.

Thank you for sharing your life story with us Rita. This certainly is one of the most emotional videos I’ve ever encountered on this channel and from you as well. I felt tears streaming down my face when you talked about the divorce and having to remove the parts of the house that you didn’t want and adding and keeping things that you wanted. I love how the Europeans just mix so many different paint colours, types of fabrics, prints and wallpapers and it all just sort of works out. I cannot imagine doing that and it turning out well, at least not quite to this extent. Its pretty though, very unique. Feels like home. My best to you and Margot dear Rita. Enjoy your new chapter.

When I turned 30 I thought that I knew what life was about and what I wanted then when I turned 40 I was top of my game physically but boy did I make bad choices. At 50 I felt a sense of calm and didn't care about what life threw at me, I felt I could handle anything but in a quiet determined way. At 60 I have no damn idea how that went as I had long stopped counting. I will be 70 in a couple of years and strangely I am looking forward to that, to ticking that box, not that it means anything in reality. Back to the video what a wonderful home and I love how Rita talks, very strongly quiet.

How lovely. And that particular red color in the wool curtains from C&C Milano, in Portugal we name it "encarnado sangue de boi" which translates into "ox blood red". It is used a lot in old wood outdoor doors.
