My favorite spots in Escondido are Charlie's for pie (that place is a time capsule), Suzy Q's for old school diner, Better Buzz Coffee (get one of their sandwiches), Major Market (looks unsuspecting from the outside but has a lot of cool imported food items from all over the place), Killer Pizza From Mars, and Urban Barn has cool antiques.
Dixon Lake is free to park inside Mon-Fri. Great views and hiking spot. Daley Ranch has construction happening on the main road but this hike is killer. My favorite food spots are Leap Coffee Roasters, Maiko Matcha, China Fun, DiCiccos Italian restaurant (great lasagna), Blue Mug Coffee, Delight of France, and the best gelato at Escogelato.
Grew up in Esco, and I still live here! Love that it's blowing up recently. It's been really great for the city. Also, right behind you, in the Lexus Dealership during the Promenade of the video is Vintana Wine and Dine, it's a really great date resturaunt. It's very pricey! But, it has a great patio and terrific night time views. You should check it out next time. They'll let you have a drink on the patio, but I would double check on that.
Thanks for covering my home town I didn’t even realize there were more gems 💎. Def check out Kennedys meat market place ( carne asada fries are my fav) and mirin cafe is a Japanese/Asian hole in a wall with some good black garlic tonkutsu ramen 🍜 . Pho Truc Xanh best service with delicious Vietnamese/ Chinese food there pho is 🤤. ❤️ your videos!
I grew up in Escondido. It's funny how I used to hate it when I still lived there, but seeing videos like this makes me realize how much I miss it now. Thanks for putting the spotlight on our city!
I was born in and still live in Escondido! Honestly, when I was younger, I wanted to love somewhere else, but as I’ve grown up, I’ve grown to really love the place too. I don’t think I’d feel safer or happier anywhere else. Also, I’d recommend Filipe’s Pizza Grotto on Grande! It has my absolute favorite pizza in the world. And I’ve got to agree, Burger Bench’s food undeniably slaps-it’s cool to know that other people think the area’s nice as well! It never really occurred to me that a tourist may ever even come here so a video like this that seems very much made for visitors never even occurred to me as a possibility!
The wrangler bbq, lake Hodges, H brothers, China bros, rock n’ Jenny’s Italian subs, Fridas, primos next to red wings. Chicken soup from Lourdes either at it’s regular location or even in the shell gas station. Jilberto's off E valley parkway next to Vallarta supermarket. As far as San Diego county Farmer boys is only in esco (2 egg breakfast sandwich) so good.
Dude, great video!! Im ready to check out Escondido now! Im also in mira mesa so i cant wait to spend half a day out of the house and see more of the finest city!!! Thank you!!
My boyfriend's aunt owns the brunch café in downtown Escondido, a delight of France. Its so good. They're opening a new location a few doors down. You should check it out in October when it opens!
Hey Jay! I recently got my youth opportunity pass for MTS and NCTD (north county transit district) and I saw your video on how to get around San Diego and I would like to see a video on NCTD. Just an Idea if you can make a separate video only for NCTD in more details like transportation routes and other tips. Would like to see that so I can explore Southern California, Thanks!
Back in the fifties 1951 my grandma bought a house behind the Dairy coming in from the south on the 15 I remember growing up as a kid Escondido was a small tiny town
Been watching jaycation for years planning on going to SD. Now we're here and man, didnt expect SD is huge! Im fr Manila by d way. Been to places you featured. Thanks jay! Now enjoying CA!
I grew up in Escondido, would definitely recommend checking out the schedule for the California Center for the Arts. It has great performances year round.
Escondido is totally a 'hidden gem' of San Diego! Haha, I used to always buy my Padres gear from that same Dick's Sporting Goods and from Sports Fever! Now living in Las Vegas, it's SO HARD to find Padres's gear out here?!?! Love the Wild Animal Park and you are close to a majority of the Tribal casinos. As a former dancer, I used to take classes at the dance studio right on Grand Ave 👍 Saw my first dance concert of my favorite dance company, Alvin Alley at the EPAC (Escondido Performing Arts Center).
Lived here my whole life definitely don’t agree with some recommendations some people have thrown out in the comments lol but wanted to add my favorite restaurant! Pho Truc Xanh it’s the best authentic Vietnamese food you can have here. I have been going there since I was a kid! It is a hidden gem with the most welcoming environment, the nicest staff who treat you like family and will remember your order, and Pho you will never forget Unfortunately they are closing soon and moving around San Diego County but as a loyal customer it’s a restaurant I would follow anywhere!
Urban Barn on Grand Ave is the best hidden gem for shopping by far! They have something for everyone; new, antique, men's, tools, baby stuff, and furniture. Much better than a dying mall that doesn't have Nordstrom's or Cheesecake factory anymore.
Visiting next week. We're looking in the general Vista area for a place for my mother-in-law to move to, once she graduates on Thursday. Loving the videos, man!
A new taco spot that I highly recommend is adelitas tacos. Starting at 3 pm they have outdoor tj style tacos with a self serve bar that includes tj style guac, beans, cucumbers, and salsas. The food has so much flavor. Los charros is another Mexican food favorite. Also Chitos near the mall has a really good California burrito and chile relleno burrito is good too. Kotijas is good too (I think they refry beans with pork fat/ manteca). Mirins Cafe has really good Japanese food.
When you say you think they refry their beans with Manteca, I hope you mean that as a "Good thing" because that's how we grew up...hehe! And we used to make fun of our neighbors because they used OIL!! (Those were the days!...lol 😝!)
Since we’re all throwing out local spots, Lourdes has the bomb chicken soup for a rainy day, Mikko sushi (amazing), Craft and Taco Lounge ( great tacos and beer), and The Sideyard Public House has the one of the best craft beer tap lists in all of Esco!
I’m so bummed you walked right by Plan 9 on Grand! They are a truly homegrown Esco brewery and they have great beers as their brewing system has grown but is even still more of a nanobrewery. Try them next time! Stoked you hit up Burger Bench - their beer list is always incredible and flush thanks to my man Adam!
I live in Escondido and I been living 6 years and i still live here and my favorite place is juniper street and the mall and swamp meet and Washington park and my favorite restaurant el Indio I love living in Escondido
Hey, I work right next to that sign! LOL It is gorgeous around here, there are restaurants that rival downtown San Diego. Stop by Cute Cakes for a cupcake worthy of the Gods! I'm going to have to find that Filipino food!!! Thank you Jay!!!!
I fun fact! If you would like to play a SUPER fun game that only the locals know about... Go to the corner of 8th and Quince and throw up the D sign (with your hand) in the air and hold it there until one of the friendly locals come over and give you your prize! ENJOY!
Mom and I loved episode #1 Out of the Boondocks on KPBS. That was a fun show. Momma Spencer said tell JayJay I want a tee shirt for summer hahahaha, 75 years old this july, gonna buy in on your store bro.
Great Job 👏 On your next visit here in escondido you need to visit TJ Tacos 🌮 and el camaron restaurant🦐 and vintana restaurant 🥩 and video cruising grand on Friday’s 😎👍
I live in esco and was the Filipino food at the street fair on Thursday? If so they were at crackheads in Carlsbad and told me they would be coming out to esco. They are called Gabina’s cuisine and catering service based out of Chula Vista.
whoh tat westfield mall is literally down from where i used to live during my childhood at lakeside apartments. geez and teir is was also te community college down te street from where i live too. that sure beats any day having to take the bus from my place in sactown down to crc college.
Lived here my whole life. Honestly can say its not worth visiting hahah. Petersons is bomb though and grand avenue is definitely popping on Friday nights during cruising grand!
You should have hit up four tunas! Burros and fries is a chain you can find throughout San Diego, not just in Esco. Also recommend TJ tacos and Frida's Tacos.
Btw, I believe Escondido = Hidden Valley....Esco had the 1st indoor mall in all of SD, although it's gone now after NCF was built. and you forgot to include Pauma casino and Pala casino which is very near by Valley View casino and Harrahs casino...Check out Felicita park where Pres Bush landed during the wild fires, it has good hiking/bike trails✊✌
yep the best place to live and i am from here. this youtuber comes from the wonderful place. and now lives in the third riech aka the city of sacramento. need i say more about actown.
