Millions of tourists flock to Spain’s sun-soaked Costa del Sol every year-so is it worth joining the herds? Beyond the obvious warm weather and long stretches of beach, this coastal sliver of Southern Spain’s Andalusia region (home to flamenco, bullfighting, and Picasso) has no shortage of history and art.
We based ourselves in the beach area of Elviria near the popular seaside city of Marbella and hopped between beaches, tapas bars, Moorish landmarks, and scenic peaks. We checked out the historical pueblo blanco of Ojen and the Old Town of Malaga to visit the Picasso Museum.
We also spent a day in the tiny UK territory of Gibraltar, a mere 7.7 nautical miles from Morocco, to take a scenic climb up the iconic Rock of Gibraltar.
Vamonos!
