If you want people to use ground vehicles, landed ships need to be super hard to spot/detect or they'll just get blown up by every rando that fly by.

Absolutely. Right now, the furthest I dare to be away from my ship is inside the outpost shipping building to turn in my cargo, after which I go straight back. Especially when our entire lives will be more or less inside our ships, they need to be incredibly hard to detect (I.E. require skill to find in a scan and expensive equipment) when landed.

Makes me wonder if there is a plan for a scrambler or some kind of stealth tech for prone ships, so as you inferred, the ship could be act as a temporary post while the crew are out on a recon mission or something like that.

@@joelmulder If terrain could cover a good portion of their radar sig. and powering down could make thermal/EM pretty much Nil, that would do it. You know, like parking in a depression or the base of a cliff/mountain for most ships. Capital size ships might be pretty hard to hide like this, though with a cap ship I assume you'd more likely leave it in orbit or very high atmo, to send down a smaller landing craft. Or not go alone, so that most of the crew can get in ground vehicle(s) and the pilot can go park the ship in upper atmo or orbit.

​@@Nightflash28maybe that couples with a timer for start up. Make it an option total shutdown that makes you extremely stealthy. But to get back going it's a 2 min start up or something.

In a game that punishes death as harshly as SC does, I'm not sure I see how well this plays. All I see here is dying a lot and spending a lot of time re-gearing, waiting on ship insurance, and traveling to get back to where you were. Except now you can also be killed by some rando while at a shopping kiosk too. Cool cool cool.

this game is not realy punishing at all.. a death just means alot of time gets wasted but with medbeds as mobile respawn its not even that. they allow all that crazy chaotic no penalty no consequences combat and the players get super used to it. when they finally, a decade later, try to implement the "death of a spaceman" permadeath system, players will boycott it. when the real consequences arrive, at least half the playerbase they are attracting right now, vanishes.

I did not realise we would have time to, stop looking at shopping inventory, jump over kiosk, take out gun and return fire .... all before the random hostile person can kill you...

Those guys are squadron42 devs. In a single player game you can script those kinds of cool action movie scenes but it will totally not work in a multiplayer environment, where other players are actually able to aim and fire properly.

I dont think the armor in game is working yet. Realistically youd have armor on that would mitigate damage. You arent supposed to just fall over and die, the TTK will be much longer than it is now.

People thinking others will just walk around faction hubs waiting to down some players without an issue. Those people will ruin their reputations with that faction, and will be shot at on sight. If you think those people will be camping those areas all the time you are wrong. They would have to normalize their reputation first, and then they can kill again.

If we're expected to be around other players while doing actual shopping - not cargo kiosks in random POIs where you can clear the area, actual shopping - it should be in an armistice zone

If someone starts shooting at you while you are shopping ... and you have the time and the leisure to close the shopping UI, vault to the other side and than take cover .... Someone is a really bad shot ... So yes, this is for sure likely happened during internal test in CIG

nah.. you might be landing and sneaking.. but your ship will be destroyed way before you try to leave, because ppl can see it from miles away and usually destroy any ship thats remotely close to the place they want to visit... and they just drop a bomb on the place anyways..

Stealth inserts aren't that hard. Grab a small ship like a Rambler, and park just outside of radar range when you land. After you kill the engines your radar signature will drop lower, and someone would need to be actively looking for your ship to find it. And then jump on the Nox in your cargo hold and drive. If you want to be super stealthy, park the Nox just outside of its radar range and want the last few hundred meters. Nobody will know that you are there. ...If you want to be stealthy, the last thing you would want to do is land on a landing pad.

We need to make ships close to the ground very hard to detect, or no one would ever dare land and get out a ground vehicle. Landed and powered down ships should have something like a 200m radar detection radius for other "normal" ships and perhaps 1k radius for dedicated scanning ships (like the Terrapin or Reliant Sen).

At 200m you won't need radar to find the ship because you will see it, unless there is a ton of tree cover. And even at 1km you will be able to easily see larger ships like a C2. That seems a little unrealistically close. If you have a reasonably stealthy sized ship and park a little further out, it is unlikely you will be spotted. And if you do try to park that close, and someone is watching their radar, they will see you coming in for a landing anyway since you can be picked up on radar much further out when your engines are on.

​@@Octobouch WOW, cargo! How long has cargo and boxes been in the game? How many professions are there? How many of those professions are basically tier 0 to 1 where you aim a magic laser beam at a rock or side of a ship and the laser beams magically hoover up the bits of material? Stop and actually look at the whole thing and think critically. Outside of combat, what full and complete gameplay loop (that CIG themselves explained and sold us for a decade) exists in the game? It doesn't exist!

@@anon4662 if the only sollution to all this ends up to be turning everybody into a bullet sponge... im out.. thats just stupid.. ppl should not be forced to wear max armor at all times. im still waiting for them to change it so you cant pilot your ship while wearing any type of armor. attacking another player should be a complicated decision with lots of consequences, not something you do just to be save.

All of this just sounds like Pyro will be ganker / griefer heaven. I play pretty casually and it if it's really just perma -pvp without safe zones, I'll never jump there. And that sucks. Finally a new star system to explore and I'm not going to see it if that's what it's like.

space is vast. Generally situational awareness can prevent ganks unless people go way out of their way to hide themselves. You're about to use kiosk.. who else is around? Guy looks shady? Don't use the kiosk. Approaching a landing zone? See a ship thats not yours? Thats shady.. look around the landing zone before you actually land. Make sure to close ship ramps... generally if you go in with the idea that someone is going to try to kill you, chances are you will see any sort of ambush a mile away. Its when people drop their guard and forget that they can be murdered whenever, that is when the pirate thrives. Same goes for getting ganked by pirates in space. Don't use direct routes.. drop out of QT early, dog leg it so you don't come out at the typical place people will come out. Be aware of choke points. Take advantage of how big the play space actually is and keep an eye on chat as that sort of thing generally gets screamed about for 10 minutes so you know where potential trouble may be at. Just keep your eyes up and head on a swivel and you will spot the griefers before you fall into the trap. The single best way to ensure your own safety is to murder anything that isn't you. It can suck but its truly the only way to be safe. Fact is PvP isn't going anywhere, you're not really safe in stanton at all once you leave a station. The only difference here is now you aren't safe in the station. Just be mindful of that and never.. ever... EVER.. have anything on you that you can't afford to replace. PvP is going to find you like it or not. You're not safe.. just keep it in mind.

For players that play in Pyro, combat is kinda the point. Besides, Stanton has tons of cargo terminals where you can get ambushed, and players successfully use those terminals all the time.

It could work if the ditch so many time sinks and remove full loot. Time sinks and regression is veeeery niche. PvP is niche, full loot is niche within a niche. Time sinks are extremely niche so SC is a niche within a niche of a niche.

I can see absolutely no way being locked into a shop terminal browsing for rations and getting killed before even having a chance to back out of the shop UI could ever become annoying. Especially once limited regenerations become a thing. Nope. This is fine

One of my many, many concerns for Star Citizen has long been that so much of it has been a bunch of disparate ideas without any real thought of if all those ideas really fit together. And the idea of an entire system where combat is always a threat and time to kill is extremely quick, that just doesn't fit well with a game that it was supposed to have the whole "death of a spaceman" concept. A game where death is quick and frequent but also where death has serious lasting consequences sounds miserable. But they haven't talked about death of a spaceman in ages so maybe they've quietly bailed on that idea....

Hauling missions are so buggy that 90% of them have to be abandoned and after a while you're rep is so negative that you're "ineligible". And we've been waiting months for this...

So the main criminal factions are none existent and dont defend their territory?? They just let anarchy and chaos destroy their settlements with relentless pvp anarchy? its just a big call of duty game? I get PvP is a part of this game but to have pure anarchy is just dumb. If you have settlements controlled by a criminal faction then that said criminal faction will absolutely rule with its own law and order otherwise its incapable of existing as an influential faction?? Surely if you start shooting people inside a headhunter controlled settlement or trade area then the faction guards will shoot you dead on site and put a jabba the hut type bounty on your head for disrespecting their authority??Isnt this game a PvE game which allows PvP??? This has already been confirmed yet here its just 100% nonsensical and dumb pvp no rules anarchy which would just never exist like that and instead feels 'gamey' and cringe.

i don't get it, whats prevent ppl from using their ships? why don't CIG make ground turrets with Shields that can defend from firepower of 3+ Connie with shield regeneration speed? That will lead ppl to use ground vehicles.

I just had an idea, and I'm sure it was something that was never thought of before: shield generators on the ground, that can only be disabled via ground assault! So revolutionary!

At this point I’m sure Pyro won’t be a good experience. CIG doesn’t understand escalation of violence. Let’s assume for a moment that there could be a truly lawless space, wich is effectively not possible where some kind of society exists but alas … Even in a lawless space, you would have to constantly weigh up the consequences of your actions. Even if I pursue evil intentions, I could lose my life at any time if I pick a fight. One would be dumb to shoot up a place for something like a pice of armor. But in a Video game there is no such thing like paying the ultimate prize. Death is just some kind of minor inconvenience. Pyro will end up as a griefer nightmare of epic proportions.

Good luck getting fuel with bad rep then since no faction will sell to you if your just a straight a hope all the time. Griefets will probably won't to stay in Stanton where they can just go to jail. @@joeswanson420 If necessary, you have a disposable account with whichever ship can cause the maximum damage at the lowest cost, or you steal one on site and hand over your loot to the other account or an accomplice. That kills the high risk, high reward gameplay right off the bat and reputation becomes a non issue. Heck even now people use secondary accounts for pvp or „pirate gameplay“

It looks nice, but it just doesn't make sense to me at least. What purpose do these shanty outposts serve for a space faring fighting force like xeno threat. These guys have Idris's but live in huts? Doesn't look like they use them for refueling. I could see agriculture, but would xenothreat really be into that?

Pyro is starting to feel less and less interesting. I honestly thought we'd be able to join any faction, but this seems like you have only 2 options. A lot of 4.0 decisions that are being released have me thinking that the game might not be for me. I think most people didn't want "crafted combat" for Pyro.

It would be possible if death had real consequences. In games like DayZ you frequently see people resolve issues non-violently because everyone understands that death has a weight to it in the game and everyone has experienced it. It's the only game I've seen where players negotiate, stick eachother up, compromise, trade, form aliances etc. all organically, even though there are no rules stopping them just shooting it out. SC has Nursas and low consequences to death so no one is going to really think twice about just getting into a fight as a default.

Honestly no matter what CIG do, there will be some area to complain about. Last year the issue was there were too few ISC's. Now CIG is pumping out ISC's nearly every week w almost no breaks and there is something new to complain about 😂 Just yesterday, all the complaints were like "3.24 wont ship by September!" Now its "4.0 wont get in PTU in september!" And so on ad nauseum

"We're moving away from combat.. Now introducing Pyro combat, now with more combat." This is not what players want. You guys need to get outta your world and play the game we are all playing. We want working in game features. There is the Star Citizen that CIG gets to play and make videos about, and then there is the PU which is basically a PTU now without the T (except for all the NPCs posing)

As a long-time backer, I get the distinct impression that the guys describing these features and setting up the video haven't been keeping up with the official dev info, let alone play any open world PvP. CIG's repeatedly stated approach to combined arms base assaults has been for many editions now that defenses are anti-AIR, giving ground vehicles a reason to exist. If you can just fly in, you just nuke all the ground units from ships, then land and pick up whatever you came to loot.

Love this consideration of ground vehicles in gameplay, but when are we going to get actual improvements to ground vehicles? - None of the ship hotkeys seem to work (calling ATC to open garage for example) - handling is horrible - no speed limiter - analoge input does not seem to work.

Sound cool. The most important thing tho is how the game gets a fun gameplayloop. If you need 15 minutes to get to a location to do anything, get killed and then need another 15 minutes to get the next "non-filler"-gameplay, then I think it will be more frustrating then fun. Espacialy with such fast "down-times" like we have in FPS gameplay. Have you thought about upping the healthpools with "armor"? That could also have a positive effect on the role of combat-medic. And maybe doing easy revival-entry-points with consumption items like a Clone/spawn-beacon with limited use and such?

This will just turn into people waiting to gank only while you are in an inventory screen if there is no kind of AI security around which is not really fun. The idea is great, but in reality people will always go for the easy kill with the upside of probably enraging the person you just killed. This will just make people do it more, like mail boxes and banks in Vanguard Saga of Heroes was a very dangerous affair and hilarious if you were the one doing the ganking. I only started to do the ganking after getting ganked which just gets more people into the ganking cycle. Getting ganked and spawn camped is never a fun situation, but on the other hand doing that back to someone who did it to you is very rewarding. Personally, I'd rather just not have the ganking cycle be a thing, or at least hard to do.

"These encounters are a lot more Crafted and Bespoke" -- To me this says "Static, Immutable, and take a long time to develop." None of this is conducive to creating a universe where we have 100 star systems... Unless we're anticipating Star Citizen spanning Multiple generations. You can't take 5 years to produce each solar system. You can't have every encounter, every installation, every station, every settlement be "Crafted and Bespoke" and have any hope of fulfilling the scope of the game in any reasonable time frame.

they talked about not being able to pilot a ship while wearing armor. i realy hope that gets implemented soon.. im already tired of the fact that everyone always wears max equipment with no drawbacks... remove the sprint completely for heavy armor, just fast walking.

Currently, its an absolute nightmare trying to get weapons to actually work. Half the time when I try to pull the trigger, my gun gets holstered or just won't fire. Reloading is an absolute mess and works maybe 50% of the time. This is going to be a mess, just like every single other update for this game. I'm just giving up at this point

Swear that if they delay 4.0 and make a 3.25 again this time, they will lose half of their player base. It’s been 2 years of this BS and people are just getting beyond it now. Most people I see have started moving on to other things this year. Whilst Star Citizen continues to have a lot more to do then any other space sim, there’s not much reason to do it. Like now there is zero reason to go to CitizenCon
