Matehau Tetopata is a classic Polynesian lad... They're often twice the build of the average grown man already, and utterly fearless. Haha!!...Charge on, crew. Is gonna be epic to see the next wave of Tahitian surfers come up through the ranks..! Big respect.
Surprised they ran the event this year in conditions you could get just about anywhere . I've always looked forward to this event. The code red year was insane. Props to the local chargers there
this they regard me as an arrogant baller, it is best not to ball...... from 20 people I get elected at like 18th ...... basically sitting and watching anyways all the time...... so why bother........ that's what they want, a sitting puppet watching the supeerior people doing their thing........ we had that already.....
Interesting, you would expect someone to go from breaking their back surfing to body boarding, not the opposite. Because surfing requires a lot more use of your back, especially when hoping up on your board. I should know because I've had 3 back surgeries. If your back is messed up, it's hard to do anything. Glad to see he's healed up and enjoying surfing.
Ya but bodyboarding is more like gymnastics at that level and you're taking off and riding different parts of the wave. The problem is surfers don't wanna learn or look at it as inferior for some reason. Different skill all together. You're not good at bodyboarding cuz you can surf. Most are terrible. Respect to all who understand the waterman way.
@@_Jake.From.Statefarm_ locals surfer it first .. wasnt a bodyboarder at all.. and laying on ur stomach taking drops wont ever take the same amount of skill at a standup
@@bcooper7618 you don't know what your talking about. You sound like a kook. They are different sports requiring different skills.. and there are a large number of local body orders at teahupoo,... Tahurai is one of them. He's an ex pro bodyboarder who broke his back at teahupoo and decided to go pro at surfing after... Try doing a backflip, Into the flats at 8ft pipe, landing with the lip in ur face, not falling from the impact, turning it around and riding out... But you pop up (like bodyboarders don't dropknee and stand up on their bodyboards all the time, with out skegs) sooo..... Must be inferior cause you got a hurley sticker brah
@@bcooper7618 and no they didn't, it was pioneered by Mike Stewart. It's well documented, look it up. "Mike Stewart is a 9 x World Champion Bodyboarder and 15 x World Champion Bodysurfer. We sat down with Mike and found out what being Mike Stewart was like! All the way from the beginning - growing up in Hawaii, working for Tom Morey, his first experience surfing Pipeline, earning the big bucks with Morey, cruising round in a Ferrari, pioneering Teahupoo, discovering hidden vortex's, towing Jaws and even an underground cinematic film career."
there are no dangerous sharks in that area afaik. with dangerous i mean sharks that attack people (there's only like 4 shark species that are dangerous). West oz, south africa and the carribbeans are sharky
You learn to ignore but respect where you are. We are not the only creatures in the ocean. Some love to play, some love to prey. Mostly on a accident or curiousity. Respect will always put life in perspective.
I was lucky to score this place 1994 just me, Ron Barron (Hawaii) and 3 locals; Guido, Sabastian and Don. We surfed 8 hrs. No one else around. If ya go JBay. Visit me at JBAYSURFVIEW🏖
