Parker feared he might lose Elvis to proper management offers had the film happened. Kristofferson got an academy nomination for the role. I think this could have dramatically altered Elvis career path and given him alternatives instead of endless tours. Probably would have saved his life too.

Kris Kristofferson did not get an Academy Award and neither did Streisand. That year's winners were Peter Finch and Faye Dunaway.

That’s not true. If you watch any of the versions or read the plot line, do you really think that Elvis would play the part of a man on his way down? He would never have done it

@@theelvisguru9490 He wanted to do ASIB after reading the script. Parker said no because Streisand got top billing was Parkers excuse. I’ll alway believe this would’ve been a pivotal event in EP’s life & career. I cry every time during the scenes in EP bio pic movies (Austin Butler & Dale Midkiff come to mind) when ASIB is mentioned. 😢 Kristofferson/Streisand were fantastic, it’s my 2nd fave movie of all time, and ‘Evergreen’ was in my wedding! Out of all 4 versions, 1975 is still the best! I had the VHS, soundtrack 8 track & cassette, book, t-shirt, and have the DVD! 😁

one of the great "what if's" of Elvis' career. he would have been great in a star is born...and maybe it launches him into the type of acting career he so badly wanted. plus....it would have allowed him to take a break from his incredible tours...criss-crossing the country...he could've used the break. interesting that...according to that contract...Elvis WAS going to get top billing. that has always been one of the reasons the col nixed it. but according to that contract...it shouldn't have been an issue.

I think the keyword on the folder is "Proposed". It could have been that BS bucked the idea of EP getting top billing since she had already won an Academy Award and several Golden Globes. Plus several of her films had either been nominated or won awards. Not to mention she had the number 1 to pop song of 1974 from her film "The Way We Were". As a fan, I agree that top billing should have been EP but from the studio point of view, it probably made more sense to put BS on top. It may or may not have been her but I am sure her "People" would have fought for the top.

No way Elvis was up for this movie! His physical and mental health in 1975-76 was quickly deteriorating, and he would have had a mountain to climb, to be able to pull this off.

@@Machomannorway totally disagree. he would have been amazing in that role. secondly...if he was as bad as you claim, they never would have considered him for the role. but they did. because actually...'75...Elvis was in a great mood. and vocally he was great. just listen to any of his live shows from '75. he was great.

Hello from England Seeing the contract with Twentieth Century Fox. Its just amazing how many typed pages there are. I wonder what lovely lady type that up and how long did it take? Many large companies had what was called "a typing pool". There may be 20 girls or more in a large room typing away. And even in the early 80's there was still "typing pools". I wonder if the girl who typed this contract is still around?

It's not clear if Elvis wanted out and got the Colonel to get him out of A Star Is Born - that's what a lot of people close to Elvis said but others say it was the Colonel who is to blame. A Star Is Born could have saved Elvis from the tour rut he was on after the massive height of Aloha ( 1973) he had no new challenges just more of the same.

I've only seen a few films of Elvis' and based off that, I don't think he would've had the 'reach' to pull off this role, IMHO. I think, too, if he'd wanted to Elvis would've taken this roll, but maybe too much was going on in his life.
