Inside the Bibby Stockholm asylum barge

The Independent's Home Affairs Editor, Lizzie Dearden, was shown around the controversial Bibby Stockholm barge that is due to house 500 single male asylum seekers.
The barge mostly consists of two-bunk rooms, but contains some four-bunk and six-bunk cabins as well. For amenities, the barge has a basic gym, living spaces and a canteen.

@@nigelhart3897 And the barge was built for 222 people, not the 506 Braverman wants to squeeze onboard. Oh, and it's turned out to be a death trap according to HSE and the Fire Brigade, regardless of the £6million cost to refit it.

The middle class white Labour voters aren't happy but I can't seem to find one single instance of them protesting their Council to build accommodation in their nice middle class 99% white neighbourhood. I don't understand why that is, there's plenty of room in their areas with big gardens and fields nearby.

These where big enough for service men to live on in the Falkland Islands, we didn’t have the luxury of a gym, laptops etc. those small rooms with four in housed six service men and their kit. They should think themselves lucky to get this accommodation. The sooner they are deported the better

Yep, I was watching a documentary the other night about Ukrainian refugees that are mostly women, the men are still fighting for there country , why the f**k is it just men. Just shows the difference between the 2 countries.

Is this for real? ‘It’s quite small’. The people of our country and paying exorbitant rates for smaller. For the rest, they just add to the ever growing homeless epidemic in the U.K. in Scotland now, they have temporarily stopped using local connection as a ‘hurdle’ to homelessness so local authorities are seeing massive spikes in presentations. This country, as it is, can barely, in fact, I’m being kind. This country CANNOT house adequately, the people here already. Put this barge on land, and it’s like any other housing estate up and down the land, except with a gym, canteen and classrooms of course. People talk about this being ‘inhumane’. No, being inhumane is buckling an already bursting housing and social care system with yet more people, who, in the main, will not contribute in any meaningful way to our economy.

Prior to sentencing, he appeared on the American far-right website InfoWars to appeal for political asylum in the U.S. In 2021, he was found to have libelled a 15-year-old refugee at a school in Huddersfield and was ordered to pay £100,000 plus legal costs․ In 2021, he was subjected to a five-year stalking prevention order for harassing journalist Lizzie Dearden and her partner.

This looks a hell of a lot better than I expected tbh. I think with a lot of sinking ships and life long trauma of ships with many cultures this being a floating accommodation is a bit of a sour note for some. I would personally presume and be fearful of drowning. Deliberately sinking the ship. Though England isn’t into malicious public events like that it would be in my head. So I don’t blame the gov for hooking this up. They just need about 2more and neither those that feel really traumatised,
