My biggest comment regarding painting competitions is that if there is a published rubric for how things will be judged/scored, it should be followed. My worst experience was the disconnect between my expectations based on a published rubric and the methods actually used to judge (no numeric score, no difference between novice and masters categories). Based on the scoring rubric, I felt like I was being told that my model was worse than the Youth category since it got nothing in the Open system. According to the rubric, a Gold in Novice would be just under a Bronze in Masters. Likewise, a Bronze in Novice would be just above a Gold for 12 and under. Each category was a step down. The reality was that the judges were judging everything very harshly and if you weren't at the top of the Masters category, you weren't getting any recognition. The other categories might as well not have existed. I wouldn't have been upset if I didn't feel like the event lied to me. It has made me very wary of competing again and has soured my opinion of the event. I still think about it years later.

Roman: Very valid arguments. There should always be a difference how a judge acts in terms of judging Youth, Beginner and Masters. A good judge knows how to seperate them. I am sorry you made this experience.

Thank you Roman. It is always wonderful to hear the human side of things and like the previous video, you have always stressed to paint for fun and for yourself, not for another or a system. I will keep that in mind, to paint from the heart.

Happy you are enjoying this video and its content. I was browsing the big RU-vid Miniature World and found quite a lot of themes that are not talked about or tips and tricks that are not told. I am still a noob in editing but learning a lot from these big creators, so I plan to do more content like this. Thank you for the feedback! Paint from the heart!!

Excellent topic and video quality. One thing, we gotta get you a lavalier mic, the echo makes it hard to hear you. But I can't wait to compete in competitions one day.

Excellent video! Very informative. In your experience, are most judges also professional painters? It seems like that would be likely, but in other industries I've noticed that the people judging/inspecting aren't necessarily qualified to do the work. For example: a weld inspector doesn't have to be a certified welder; he just has to know the code and be able to visually judge the quality of the weld. It seems that with art being so subjective, it would be harder to choose judges.

Thanks a lot! Happy you like it! In my experience: Yes. On big shows defenetaly yes. On smaller shows I have seen less experienced painters judge too and they did a great job. To explain and teach new judges and to help to make judging experience it is usually norm to have at least an experienced judge as a part of the team. Yes, I agree. With art being subjective it is difficult. Therefor, there is the frame and briefing. Some elements can be judged on a technical level. From a certain level of quality it is a matter of style and styles should not be judged, they can't in an objective way as art styles create subjective impressions. It is uniqueness that is going to influance the judging work!

@@ROMANLAPPATMINIATUREART I think I was just thrown off by the intro bit being used again later on, at around 5 minute mark. Looking back it seems intentional, I was listening only so I got confused. Sorry
