INSIDE THE GREEN BERETS

In a remote outpost in south-central Afghanistan, 24 Americans work to ‘pacify’ a hostile river valley the size of Rhode Island.
They are Green Berets: U.S. Army Special Forces charged with battling the Taliban and Al Qaeda while winning the hearts and minds of locals who often see the Americans as simply the latest of a string of invaders dating back centuries.
The Pentagon normally limits media embeds with Navy SEALs and Green Berets to 48-hours. The Hoggard team was given 10 days in the combat zone to chronicle the lives of these war-hardened Special Force troopers.
But in the dead of night, on a distant Afghan ridge, the trip is cut brutally short, leaving 8 Green Berets and two of our film crew dead or wounded in the worst mass casualty event to date for Special Forces in Afghanistan.

The most heart breaking scenario is when at the end of the video there will be some guys missing from the beginning of the video. Staring at a photo with all of your guys together smiling can make you smile but knowing that some of them in photo are gone can be a very hard feeling to overcome.

seeing those men standing next to that casket really hit home. too often are soldiers depicted as nothing more than mindless drones with a gun and people forget that in the end they are still only human. they feel pain, they feel guilt, they feel emotions that are only capable in combat that most of us will never come to understand or have to cope with ourselves. i shed a tear with them today for a man i never knew. thank you to all that have served and those that will serve. i will be joining all of you very soon.

Green berets are such a unique sort of people because they understand the true essence of SF ,they are intelligent ,well organised,calm and (most surprisingly for a elite soldiers like them) are humble! -not pursuing after fame and glory like much of the Seals...they can switch between a peaceful negotiator to a capable soldier in moments which I think is very impressive. I'm Russian and i know our leaders not in the best of terms and i don't agree with US politics myself but i can't not to have at least respect for those guys ,whatever you do the right thing or the wrong thing some times it's enough for a soldier to THINK and believe he's doing the right thing..

These men are the very esscense of what it means to be an American. As a combat veteran myself that served in the infantry. I was nothing compared to these men but I know from first hand. These men fight not for ideology but for true freedom of all mankind and mainly thier brothers side by side. As the leaders of the free world we have a responsibility, and we must hunt evil down where ever it resides and help those that aren't capable of defending themselves from thier oppressors. We must stand with them and fight side by side. These men in this video are truly giants among men. I have the utmost respect for my fellow veterans who have given thier hearts, souls, thier limbs, and thier lives for the cost of freedom for all of humanity. Thank you to those who serve this cause still, and to those who have in the past. I have an empty feeling in my heart knowing my military service is over and will never have that experience ever again, because my service to my country was the greatest and most meaningful thing that I will have accomplished in my life. I believe all men that have served in combat feel the most important thing that matters is brotherhood first in formost. I feel sorry for any man that will never know true brotherhood in this life.

I was a grunt in the Marine Corps more than a few years ago, and watching these guys work- damn, they are hard chargers. And these guys aren’t doing it like the line companies where you’re surrounded by 17-21 year olds, you’ve got guys who are young in civilian years and prime in military years who are bringing a lot of experience with them. It’s really amazing watching a small unit operating so tight. There are only a couple of other sections of two other branches that operate this high speed. More field time, less sleep, more weight on your back and longer humps more frequently? I had to pass on that. 🤣🤣🤣 I had an opportunity to go to BRC and an opportunity to do a STA indoc and a few friends who did go that route said that they liked the small unit dynamic much better than the line companies, but I didn’t feel like either would have been the right choice at the time and I don’t regret not doing it. The average person just cannot understand how grueling the physical aspect alone of being a grunt is (not including the other aspects) and I still have a hard time believing some of the shit we’d do when training, and I cannot even begin to imagine how grueling the training for STA or Recon would be. I’ve seen some of those Recon guys train and I was pretty blown away by how sharp, fast and on point they were. Good lord.

Seeing these things tears me in half. I pick my MOS in two days. Ive been trying to convince myself for so long that i should pick an MOS that has civilian applications. So i can have a fall out. Because as much respect as many citizens have for the vets, many businesses will never hire someone without actual job experience. Then something else in me screams. Tells me to be a fighter for as long as I can until I die. To let go of all other attatchment. Because the path of the warrior is probably the most noble path I know. And really, in the end, Im just trying to run away from that path by telling myself Im ok with normal everyday work. But Im not. I believe Im going 18x after watching this. And if the paperwork doesnt clear, guess Ill see you grunts later

It seems like I’m not the only one that called Afghanistan a forgotten war… Apparently back in the day, the United States, while we are not only fighting in two countries, we focused all our intention in Iraq more than Afghanistan at the time. I say that because the enemy when we didn’t actually focus, our intention on what was going on over there was getting stronger. Over the years of fighting in Iraq we totally forgot about Afghanistan for a bit. I mean we were still fighting, but we just the American public had forgotten we were still over there. The craziest part is when Obama talks about sending in troops in 2010 you see these outrageous protest like we can’t get involved in another war. I met a guy who actually served in Afghanistan and Syria. He told me he would encounter these protesters one of them actually tried to show sympathy for him, but he asked him a question. Like, did you know we were still fighting in Afghanistan from the start? The protester responded since when? Since 911 2001 our forces had been in Afghanistan since 2001. Apparently this protester thought America had gotten involved in 2010. I literally just wasn’t surprised by it because a lot of people never was thinking about that at the time. Now people ask why we really lost in Afghanistan, while they go off on so many questions that we wasted our times, trying to win hearts and minds yet the hearts and minds were already won by the Taliban. The real answer is around the 20 years we were fighting in Afghanistan. If you go back between the years 2002 and 2009. You would totally learn there was a lack of negligence just literally given in those years the enemy started getting stronger around that time smarter too. We ended up pulling our forces out in 2014 but we ended up coming back with a smaller force than we had last time we were there in the 2000s. By the time 2021 rolls around yeah, it was clear the Taliban We’re on a roll and don’t worry about the night vision they actually have night vision now thanks to our generous gifts of negligence. I’m willing to bet the entire Afghan military literally defected to the other side because there’s no way in hell they were able to recruit that much with all the freaking techno gear we left for the afghans.

don french they have them when the mission dictates the need A lot more goes into what SF ODAs do than the cool high speed equipment. They use transportation the locals use, they want to blend in more than stick out. They are a force multiplier.

What happen to the Afghanistan Army guys who turn on the light on truck #3?
@Blackwolffe097
@Blackwolffe097 7 лет назад
Wayne Chu Off the mission The U.S. told them to leave and had them replaced with other people. Rumor has it that the driver was picked up and sent to Guantanamo Bay. Branded as a terrorist and a Taliban Fighter. The rest of the Afghan Military officers were left alone because some said they heard yelling from the truck. It was believed that the driver had a phone and received a call from the Taliban. They told him to turn on the headlights. After he turned them on, the Afghan Military started yelling at him to turn it off because they didn't want to die A later search revealed that he did have a cell phone on him. I read this on a military site

Shadow Wolff Not too sure about the cellphone thing being true. It might be but I know when I was doing convoy security on my deployment every truck was equipped with a duke system to jam cell signals. The Afghanis truck would've fallen well within the duke systems "bubble" from the 1151 ahead that was being illuminated. And any non military guys like the terp or any Afghan nationals would be searched for cell phones specifically. We still took hits from straight up command wire or the pressure plate IEDs though. And that's after Route Clearance had already cleared the road. That's why I'm not too sure about the cell phone thing being a factor.
@ronin374306
@ronin374306 7 лет назад
Those Afghan guys turned on their headlights because it was so pitch dark that not even the camera crew's night vision equipment can see. All SF has night visio goggles that helped them drive. i doubt those Afghan guys were properly equiped for night missions. So with course of events, they turned their headlights on and doomed the truck in front of them, because the enemy can see them and ignited the IED.
