God, how I wish Jim was here to see how his labor of love turned into one of the greatest cult classics of all time. He was devastated when it did so poorly in theaters. If he only knew what was to come. My favorite movie of all time! RIP Jim & David 💗😭
Don't worry, his wife Jane said that he lived long enough to see how the cult adoration was growing before he died. Not as much as it is today but it did begin quite early after release.
sorry to be so offtopic but does any of you know of a way to log back into an instagram account? I somehow lost my password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me.
I highly recommend the prequel to a certain film on a certain streaming platform. 😊 I don't know why a certain someone erased the last comment I made. It was a perfectly sane and respectful comment.
Yes ! IMDB "Michael Jackson, Prince, and Mick Jagger were considered to play Goblin King Jareth. Jim Henson preferred Sting, until his kids convinced him that David Bowie (who had reached his peak of mainstream popularity with the "Let's Dance" album) would be best suited to it. Bowie wanted to make a children's movie, liked the concept, and found the script funnier and more amusing than many other contemporary special effects movies."
Who else was born the DAY this was released!? June 27th 1986 and I'm just now realizing this beautiful movie was intended for all the divine heroine's that are making their way through their labyrinth! You never had power over ME!! ❤
@@taylordowning2533 "Jennifer Connelly, Labyrinth Press Kit (1986) "Jennifer was absolutely right for the part of Sarah. She's extremely pretty, with looks rather like those of the teenage Elizabeth Taylor. She's also a damn good actress and was a joy to work with.""
There is nothing that comes close to the amazing passion and collective artforms of this timeless classic. I saw this twice at the cinema when it was released. It's still one of my all time favourites.
Just saw this in theatres other day. Was amazing to see it on the big screen. Very glad I got to enjoy it as it was and still is one of my favorite films from my childhood.
I have to say Labyrinth was one of my favorite movies of all time, I must have seen it more times than I can remember. The amount of effort that when into making this film is incredible, I think that's why this film still stands the the test of time, Jim Henson is truly a legend and a magician.
I didn't like it when it first came out because it wasn't like Dark Crystal but it's grown on me since then. The thing I remember most was my jeans weren't fully dried from the dryer and the movie theater was arctically air conditioned...maybe that's why I didn't enjoy myself, come to think of it....
I loved this film as a kid, it was my introduction to David Bowie. No matter how much time passes this film is pure genius and they don’t make films like this anymore. And I hope they don’t remake it, CGI won’t be the same. And no one will replace Bowie.
@@artemisiakyrell7727 really.... it won’t be the same with Bowie. But I guess the new Dark Crystal was a success and if they do a similar thing it could be good.
I just realized how much I need to watch this movie again. My father and I used to watch it together. It is hilarious, romantic, and saddening at the same time, and that's hard to find in a movie!!! ❤
I lived in comunistic land in 1986.I did know, that David Bowie and Jim Henson were doing a movie ,but I (very loving fan of DB) didn't know if I will have a chance to see it.I was abnormally nervous,I cry a lot,but I have only one hope- ORF-Austrian television.I don't remember when, but I saw this genial movie.I was happy as can be.But I had video with it after a many years. I love DB from my 12 and I will love him forever.(Sorry my English.)
No matter how many adult jokes people point out, this will always be my favorite introduction to David Bowie, when I heard about his death, my sisters and I watched Labyrinth and I immediately loved it
If Micheal Jackson was Jareth it would have been a very different film .. I can imagine Sting could have carried it off but David was in one word “magic”
@@SamiLo2 it probably would have in the black community... just like the wiz. But as much as I love MJ, the wiz is awful, especially compared to Flemings version.
I was kind of late for this movie. My dad bought it for my sis and I when I was 14 and we both loved it. We were so opposite because I let it out that I would have ended up with him and that is how I fell in love with David Bowie.
Sidney Jarillo I’ve been watching this movie since I was 4. I’ve been listening to David Bowie since I was 1. I’m now 14. Bowie is still my idol. Labyrinth is still one of my favorite movies😁
I always loved this movie. It looks amazing, good carsting, funny jokes and nice songs. It’s bittersweet to watch it now, after we lost Bowie, Jones and Henson. But since a kid it was one of my favorite film, and will remain so forever. Love it 💜
I love this movie, the memories it conjures, and I love everyone else who grew up in the 80s and experienced the true magic of real movie making. Peace!
Amazing. All the work, the details.... That is dedication to craft and imagination. I got kinda sad though watching this knowing that its a lost art form, not just puppetering but having that level of dedication on all levels. Makes me long for childhood and the simpler days so much..
That isn't true. Movie makers love their craft no less now. I think the sad thing is how the entertainment industry is so ugly and political right now( I don't mean like politics like Democrats and Republicans, although certainly that is there too. I mean more like people trying to push each other out of the way, and manipulating each other. Plus too much of who you know and not what you know.) People who work on CGI are every bit as artistic and detail oriented. Visual artists will always love details. Compuer or not; Its still all coming from a human sketching.
It's fascinating, that such a complicated scene 19:43 that there is so much work going into making this seamless and natural. As an adult in her mid thirties, I still play this occasionally in my car and think of the movie scene, and had NO IDEA how much work went into it for it's time!!!!
MASSIVE RESPECT for everyone involved in this wonderful piece of artwork AND to do a making of documentary. I've always loved the film. David Bowie was born to play his role in this, anyone else would have been an imposter. R.I.P. all the amazing talents who made this possible 🥰
It's amazing to see how much work and effort go into making a movie like it. It's still magical even after seeing all the behind the scenes. Thank you for sharing.
14:45 it sounds like Jennifer Connelly was influenced by all the Brits around her in the way that she speaks. Just listen to the way she says "actually".
As a 3D animator, it still amazes me how much time and effort it took to make these amazing sets. There is just something genuine and organic about the results that you can't really replicate no matter how advanced the programs are imo. It must've been fun to work with, I would've loved to have a chance to work in those kinds of sets, so much creativity!
David bowie has been the man of my dreams since I was 6 years old the song he wrote and performed in this movie are perfect and so is he with or without the hair I even like the hair since that is the first way I seen him but the songs he made for it makes me melt inside
I was six years old, the first time I saw this movie. It's one of my earliest memories of life, and it was also the first time I ever heard a British accent. It happened at a party, and I'd sneaked away from my mother to find out what the older kids were watching in the den. When my mom found me and pulled me away, I asked her, "Why is that man talking funny?" She had to explain to me where England was on a globe owned by the family, throwing the party.
Sad that budgets are so bloated in the industry that movies aren't made like this collaboration was anymore. Thank Glob the late Jim, David, Terry and company made this brilliant work of classic storytelling no longer available due to studios unwilling to take the risks on practical effects and original world building in service of creators' vision. Sadder yet that this doc was only released in clips by The Jim Henson Company channel, still sadder that this and the latter doesn't have captions for those who need them for accessibility sake.
The sets and designs here are extraordinary! The Superb amount of work and dedication that has gone into every detail is astonishing! It's probably the only film from my childhood that is just as magical now as it was to me back then. I LOVE this film!
Love this film. David Bowie. His music. The world of the labyrinth. Everything is perfect. Would of loved a sequel. The staircase scene at the end is amazing.
Who just watched this great movie in 2019? I just saw it on New Year’s Day lol started off my year with a good movie, this year will be a great year for me because I’m getting out of the nursing home where im currently recovering from a brain aneurysm 🤕
This was the first movie I saw this year. I watched it with my friend at like 1:00am after the New Years party. Ofc id seen it before tho😂 I used to watch this movie all the time when I was little and not to mention David Bowie has basically always been my idol
This is so amazing to watch and so fun to see how they created all of these characters. David Bowie and Jim Henson were both such incredible humans. They are so very missed.
One of the truly best films of the 80s , i remember being fancinated by this film , i loved the sound track to the film my favourits are underground , as the world falls down and within you.
Wow, it's very interesting to hear Bowie's raw recorded voice in "Magic Dance"... If you listen to the movie full mix you can hear a little of his screeching here, but they also blended a 2nd take with reverb, compression, all that. Edit - HOLY those sets!!!!
