Excellent reporting, Ezra. Congratulations! I’ve been a few times to that museum in Budapest and it’s been a difficult experience every single time. As a Cuban, one of my dreams have been to see the equivalent House of terror in free Cuba.

I'm from Hungary, now living in Canada and I would like to thank you for showing my homeland to the world. Some people in North America don't even know where Hungary is situated. It's a beautiful country with a rich culture and a terrible history. Hungary lost 2/3rd of its territory in 1920. The Trianon Peace Treaty was a national tragedy. My nation has suffered a lot but it will not be destroyed!

I am Polish living in Canada too. I think that Poland and Hungary are the only countries fighting the woke, corrupt EU. However, I think that Hungary might be a bit better in that respect :) Just based on my news reading. Maybe they are both the same. Unfortunately woke is like cancer. I cannot say from a distance how widespread it is in Poland. Anyway, I wish I could go back to Poland. Do you consider going back to Hungary too?

I really enjoyed Budapest. Beautiful city and met a lot of great people. You're right, terrible history. I may only see one side of the story, but it looks like Viktor Orban had been fighting against the EU on behalf of the Hungarian people and doing good things. The immigration issue in particular. Both Hungary and Poland have been right in fighting against forced immigration, and judging by the issues in France and the UK, they've been right. Just my observation

Hi from another Hungarian who is proud of the country, it's people and history. I left Hungary in 1964 with my mother to meet up with my father in Vancouver, who I never met, I was 1 yr. old when the revolution happened, 1956. Canada and much of the world was different, hope and optimism as people could move up the economic scale.

grew up with a hungarian dad, so basically knew about communism and trianon before i could say mama and papa, it seems to me though thst hubgarian politics not only were terrible but always sided with the losing powers...

I read a lot about Nazism and Communism, but, my late wife being from Beijing and having visited China many times before and since her passing, I have a particular interest in the history and culture, past and present, of China. One of a number of books that I read was "The People's Trilogy" by Frank Dikötter. Dikötter was a professor of modern Chinese history at Hong Kong University and had access to various CCP archives during the thaw preceding the 2008 Olympics. The trilogy includes (the sarcastic terms are mine) the Communist Devolution, The Great Leap Backward (Mao's Great Famine), and the Cultural Devolution. They are, as are others, important reads, though extremely unpleasant, horrific. I often had to put the books down for a few days or weeks, having been overwhelmed by the inhumanity. The West became complacent toward China after Mao, seeing it as a pot o' gold, and once given a glimpse of prosperity, considered China ripe for Western values. Right? Wrong. It is the same deceitful and corrupt, inhuman Party that is in power today. It is the same Party that still has statues of the Great Murderer looming over every city center in every city in China. Communism must be destroyed wherever the evil weed takes root, wherever its evil ideology sprouts its disgusting bloom.

Thank you Ezra for going to Hungary! It is one of the last traditional conservative countries of Europe along with Poland and The Czech Republic. Hope you manage to get an interview with Orbán, I don't hear much of him despite him being one of the most popular leaders in the world and bringing a huge economic and societal boom to the country.

The House of Terror is not unique. Donetsk Music Academy (I am graduate of) is in the building where NKVD (KGB) was before WWII and Gestapo during it. In the basement, there are torcher chambers where students were practising. In a dead end of the basement hallway, there is a wall notched all over, the execution wall.

Welcome, hope so you will have a great time here!!!And thank you for coming and showing it all to the world, special thanks for the site where I even found some good videos. Honestly, our son born in Canada tries to tell all this to his friends and acquaintances outside, but he is constantly scolded for lying, for not being true, for not having happened, and even called uneducated and ignorant. Honestly, he learned more in one year of school in Hungary than he did in 13 years in Canada. Nothing about gender, of course, but that's why we brought him this home (Canada is his home too, of course).

I had the privilege of being born in Canada in 1962 - just five years after my mother and grandmother escaped communist persecution in Hungary. In 2015, my my mother and I took the long-promised trip back to the "homeland". My mom and I were in one of the basement torture chambers of the Terror Museum in Budapest on that trip when she suddenly realized that this was where her father, a captured freedom fighter during the Hungarian Revolution in 1956, had been taken and "processed" before being sent to Siberia. She suddenly began shaking and crying uncontrollably. And then so did our tour guide. I stood beside them, hugging and shuddering with their horrid memories - the tools of the trade used to torture my grandfather hanging there on the wall. Ezra is right. You don't come out of this museum the same person as you went in.

1956 Budapest Hungary and 1989 Beijing Tiennamen China. Both use military tanks to crackdown on civilians but the later is a lot more brutal in literally crushing over their own people alive.

Hello, Mr. Levant. Maybe you would like to make a suplimentary effort and visit another museum of totalitarianism in Romania, the one at Sighetu Marmatiei in the nord west of the country. There is another project to rehabilitate as a museum another abandoned prison complex from the times of Communism at Ramnicu Sarat, but that is estimated to be finished in 2026.
