Props to Shaq for mentioning Shawn Kemp with no hesitation, that man brought so much joy to the NBA. Him and Vince were the greatest in game dunkers imo.
@@Gabriel_Moline Did you even watch the video where they had way more weight hanging on the rim than Shaq ever came close to weighing and still didn't break it? Kind puts a hole in your theory. Not that I'm saying hanging didn't have an influence, but it's not just hanging.
@@anthonymercado8126 KG saying he was always looking to dunk on taller players doesn't mean he thought Davis was better than anyone, just that he made effort. With Davis being 6'3" and the avg height for an NBA player being 6'5" and making almost every dunk against someone taller.😂 No hate on Baron but he isn't in Blake's category for dunking.
@@traviscooper2955 I understand they're doing it from like a scientific point of view. I'm just saying I think westbrook has had some of the hardest dunks of the past 10-15 years
It was the guy who made the mold for Shaquille O'neal. His name is Darryl Dawkins. They called him "Chocolate Thunder". He even used to write poems about his dunks.
@@TheMaddBlackMann bruh why we going out of our way to hate? It’s true that no one is like Shaq and focuz4899 was only talking about how Chocolate Thunder made the mold for the Diesel in terms of dunking with emphasis. Shaq even said the same thing in the video.
@@TheInfamousThey305 Im not a lebron fan and I agree he's never been a creative dunker, but having the best player in the league in it would have generated some more excitement around the dunk contest and got other stars to do it
Shawn Kemp has to get some consideration. Prime Kemp was ridiculous. Griffin was incredible too. I watched Griffin play in high school, and the dunks he was punching on those children should’ve been illegal.
Reminds me of an old show here in the UK called "Braniac: Science Abuse". They used to do crazy science experiments like dropping a forklift from 1000 feet.
People, here is THE POWER LIST (in no particular order): - Darryl Dawkins - Shawn Kemp - Shaq - Vince Carter - Dominique Wilkins - Blake Griffin - Kenyon Martin - Amare Stoudemire - Larry Nance Jr. & Sr. - Stromile Swift - Giannis Abcdefghjklmno - Tracy McGrady - Derrick Rose - Gerald Green - Aaron Gordon - Miles Bridges - Dwight Howard - Jeff Green - Josh Smith - Russell Westbrook - Larry Johnson - DeAndre Jordan - LeBron James - Scottie Pippen - Dr. J - Charles Barkley - Kevin Garnett - Jason Richardson - Isaiah Rider - Harold Minor - Tom Chambers - Gerald Wallace - Desmond Mason - Baron Davis - Derrick Coleman - John Collins - Chris Anderson - Shawn Marion - Brandan Wright - DeShawn Stevenson - Quincy Acy .....definitely forgot some legends, please add in the comments (wouldn't consider guys like MJ, LaVine, Drexler etc. as power dunkers imho)
Darvin Ham, Johnny Newman, Bill Willoughby, Sam Lacey, Jerome Lane, Kevin Johnson (gotta get a lil' love for what he did on Akeem), Billy Ray Bates, Terry Tyler (pistons - hope i got the spelling right), Chris Morris, Gus Johnson (also broke backboards), Orlando Woolridge, ...
You are naming some of the best dunkers, may be Vinsanity. But no WAY do he & Wilkins rival the dramatically stronger & heavier men. Likely Shaq is #1, as immodest as he is lol! He said he was 395 lbs(!) eventually with the Lakers. Bet he could have generated even more force hanging on the rim then. But no normal weight for height man like Carter or Wikins can generate such force, not even close. Forget that Shaq had a 39" vertical just to GET to 12'5"... Even when "skinny" at @300 lbs. when starting out it takes far more force to get up to the same height.
It is interesting & while subjective impressions are limited arguments, you could make an argument like this: the hardest puncher could possibly be Demotay Wilder, who has similar proportions to the 6'6" 220lb. Carter. Great force can be generated more by speed height (in dunking) & leverage than muscle power...However Shaq set a RECORD with a 12' 5" leaping reach, & destroyed the most modern & reinforced backboards...With the height & weight+ him pulling his legs up for enhanced centripetal force... I cannot see how any 100 KG man could possibly create as much Pure Force...I think weight & strength means more here than in say punching...@@andretarrobal1964
Dunno about in terms of power, but Shawn Kemp dunks are my personal favourites. There's just so much passion with each of his dunks and most of the time he lands and celebrates it where it can easily get him tech-ed out of the game (at least these days)
Shaq also had a 300 pound big on his shoulder, adding weight. So 600 pounds + the jumping force of each of them. Upon landing usually about 10 times the force, but in this case probably half that, so it would be 5 x 600 = 3000 pounds.... and a tired backboard.
Why are they acting like Shaq has otherworldy power, instead of just assuming the rig was likely not upto snuff & just need a powerful guy to be the tipping point of breaking it, or that it wasn't setup correctly. The dudes not generating 2,000lbs worth of force dunking a ball.
Shaq Keynon martin Dominique wilkins Lebron Dwight Howard Amare stoudimire Kemp. Sorry if I missed anyone. But these are the players whose dunks were powerful.
Dominique and Kemp are the top two that come to mind but all these youngens wouldn’t know! Greatest dunk ever Vince Carter over a 7footer in the Olympics!!!
Without seeing the video or reading comments first : The first person to come to my mind is Dominque Wilkins. Shaq definitely is also up there. But if i'm basing it off just making it look like they are about to rip the rim down Dominque just had that look.
Personally, I don't think of Shaq as a power dunker. He was a lot heavier than most players that have played, and just hung on the rim with all his weight. What Shawn Kemp, Vince Carter, and Tracy McGrady, did in the 90s was probably the best period of game time Dunks in the history of the NBA. It was beautiful to watch!🎉
the 1st right out of high school kid who could physically compete with the grown ass men of the league decades before Bron. the guy who made the NBA change their rim design long before Shaq
The problem with this experiment is it's hard to recreate the exact same setup that Shaq broke...might have not been setup properly or had structural weaknesses that compromised it's strength...not taking anything away from the big Diesel but...
Back then referees allowed a lot of players to grab Shaq without calling fouls because he was too strong to stop. One time, I think it was against the Spurs. The whistle had already blown, but two players were facing Shaq and still grabbing each arm. So Shaq, standing still and without bending his knees, expressed "get off me!" by pushing with each hand the two players at the same time, sending them flying and sliding on the floor for about 30 feet. Shaq's strength was no joke.
I was old enough to see Vince Carter do some insane dunks. Shaq, Blake, Vince, Gordon, Ewing, Dominique are all monsters I know I'm missing a few more.
So, was the word they Couldn't say, or was silenced by someone, DIESEL? They kept saying "Big" for Shaq and I know that isn't Solely a nickname for him, but I think maybe for copyright reasons they weren't allowed to say 'Big Diesel',yes? 🤔
