Health NZ has declared Nelson Hospital as having the worst condition of any hospital building in New Zealand. Project Director Liz Thompson describes some surgical wards as “not fit for purpose.”
Despite redevelopment plans being on the table since the nineties, progress has stalled. Health Minister Shane Reti now hopes to bring the redevelopment proposal to Cabinet by the end of the year.

I live in Nelson and have to use the hospital on a regular basis. It’s a disgrace that that it is in this condition especially for surgical wards where patients are meant to be recovering.

Not necessarily, it would depend on what it would cost to retrofit one of the buildings to make it suitable for the extra occupants. Then you still have a building that probably can’t be used for anything else .

What's a model ( architecture) designs that can make things easy on (staff, doctors, nurses ) to cater for patients. But what a wonderful building, it served its purpose.

Common1.4 billion thats bs bet u half of that is given to profile friends in the industry with over inflated quotes nz is like usa now. Most the bill goes to people doin nuffin but are part of the rich food chain

We had major problems getting in and out with my father. Had to leave him mutiple times in winter at the front door in the cold at the main entrance. Putting him in the shuttle wasn't an option at all. Parkside and Riverside are way worse than that in Christchurch. I was disgusted how dirty it is. Not even fit for animals. The real question is any hospital fit for purpose in New Zealand. And it kinda seems we attract the worse doctors cause they know they won't be held accountable for anything.
