I like a lot of what I’m seeing for Old World. The books being the way they are gives me hope that we might get good campaign books and follow closer to the MESBG pattern than AOS. GW have done a very good job over the last decade of teaching us that we need to use their models for their armies but proxies are such a core part of the WHF history that I’m hoping the community can find it’s way back to that. Great video Ben, looking forward to more
I reckon that we'll have a lot of folks going to tournaments and embracing the proxy nature of things, or at least I hope they do. I like the official stuff but you can get some really nice stuff out there to make your army unique as they did in the old days as you say. I too think we're on the right track with the way they're doing the books - thanks for watching!
If you want to start playing TOW with GW models now, you have about half the range each for Brettonia and Khemri each, Nightgoblins and Savage Orcs are still around in AoS, and the full Beastmen range is available as AoS models too. And of course Warriors of Chaos are around - but beware that the new sculpts are a bit tricky to rank up even on the new larger bases. You could technically start Dwarfs... but your options are very limited, and all the kits are sold out all the time anyway. Hyped for the O&G re-release myself, despite not really NEEDING anything - I could put 3000+ points on the table right away. Still looking forward to getting MORE... and there is some juicy MtO stuff as well. GET IT ON!
Yeah, it's mad thinking about the amount of "Legacy" armies that they've still got available in AoS that you could just rebase on squares and pretty much get away with! Good to hear that the Orcs & Goblins are going to be on your go-to list for The Old World!
I have a fair sized high elves force. Mainly unpainted and from 2010. Will pick up the rules and army books when they come back in stock. For now I will concentrate on getting them painted up. Thank you for your coverage of this game. Others have done a lot but your particular style suits me most.
The High Elves are looking great in their list. I would say, the AoS range is still pretty good for Vamps with the free PDF rules so you could make an army pretty easily if you liked!
I've been following the return of TOW with interest. I'm a little disappointed they didn't go the Epic route and make it more like Total Warhammer, but I guess that can follow later. Splitting the factions between 'active' and 'legacy' is a bold move, but it does buy them the time to fully retire those old sculpts from AoS so they can return has TOW kits on square bases. But after all that, I think I'll be watching this one from the sidelines. Partly it's a matter of model count and cost. Sure, I can probably proxy an army or two for considerably less than GW's RRP, but it's still a lot of models to paint. I'm very please to see those Tomb Kings kits on shelves once again, though. Maybe I'll pick up one or two eventually.
Yeah, I still think there could have been a case for them making The Old World into an "epic" scale game like Warmaster. It surely would have been cheaper for them in the long run haha.
@@AndrewMcColl True - I suppose they would have all the old metal casts somewhere for the original Warmaster stuff though? Still probably easier for them to shift the old plastics though yeah haha
@@BecauseOfDragons I wonder if they would keep the Warmaster scale if they did go that route. Making IA 50% bigger was likely a response to the rise of third party sellers and an opportunity to add more detail to the sculpts. But now I check, I see Warmaster was about 10mm. I guess the only issue that remains is whether or not Rick still owns the Warmaster rules. It feels like that might be the case since they seem to be the basis for many of the games he's created over at Warlord.
