I work in a mental hospital. Literally, it's nearly a daily issue to physically manage another human being. Having a strong background in WC has saved my butt so many times.
This was very interesting to listen to. I spent some time training under Simon Lau in London many years ago and much of what you say here parallels his approach too. The power of Mr Lau's punching was astonishing yet he'd insist "No, I am not strong". His posture, footwork, overall control was a huge part of the power delivered by his punch.
Thanks Mark that was terrific, good down to earth stories. Cool that you acknowledge being scared and tense then how it all changes when it's actually on. I was tailgated one day by a very aggressive knob in a tradie ute, I was sure he was going to cut me off and get out to fight and my heart started thumping but I was surprised to realize that my whole body just relaxed and set up automatically rather than tensed ready for aggression. And you dont feel punches much eh! Next day YES. I cringed at your bone out side of hand injury, ouch!! Great stuff, good stories, hard to imagine what these 'Sifu's' have learnt who think our kicks and punches have nothing! We were damn lucky to have Sifu and Sigung show us the REAL Wing Chun. Cheers
I started out watching with skepticism but this guy knows what he is talking about. I do jiu jitsu so it’s always fun to shit in tma guys but every now and then you find a gem. I think kung fu was everyone’s first love when it comes to interest in martial arts though. Just too many strip mall frauds these days.
Good stuff Mr S. I’d have to agree . The constant drills , 4 corner etc that sifu had us practising and teaching became automatic reflex. The few times these automatic responses just happened , would leave me reflecting later. How did I do that ? You’re a great sifu. I hope everything’s going well.
If you have to prepare, one thing you can state without argument is that that is a second state from your daily state. This is meaningful. One thing is you are dualistic in mind and form. The other is you aren’t ready for the split second. To go further it means your internal art is external. Most likely it wasn’t taught internally but externally. Wing chun is taught externally. That is the focus is not upon the state or condition but taught through precise movements and forms. That’s external. And you aren’t likely to achieve the one state although there are several wc masters who have realized the soma of one state. It’s just not taught directly .
There’s certainly plenty of teacher who aren’t aware or just haven’t learnt correctly or fully understood what they were being taught. Mark spent considerable time under our grand masters teaching. We were very lucky .
@@darkhorse888 well. It’s more personal than that. Mark and I trained and taught together. And spent time training in Hong Kong together. He’s definitely the real thing. Test him if you can get to Sydney 👍🏻👍🏻 He won’t hurt you. He’s very kind.
@@wingchun-simplekungfu7584 I am speaking objectively and with an outsider's view. I do know Mark. yes, he is kind and very skilled. He has his limitation being a kiwi and we try not to hold that against him.
