My friend introduced me to this by using it in an arguement against me, trying to prove that the entire metal genre was nothing but trashy violence and hate. But hearing this now, I can only say 1 thing: God bless his foolish little mind! I love melodic metal. There's beauty and power in it, revealed only to those who are willing to look beyond the surface. Metal soothes my soul, makes me strong, reminds me what's important in this life. Metal is a gift to me, for which I am eternally grateful.

I found this band about two years ago after suffering what I believe now to be a protracted psychotic breakdown. I had never been remotely close to thoughts of suicide, but I guess years of emotional isolation and flawed coping mechanisms finally caught up with me. Insomnium started me down the road of melodic death metal. Can't say I'm sorry. Music like this gives my screwed up, bleeding soul a voice and helps me fight my demons every day. Also the guy in the cover art sorta looks like me. Rock on, fellow metalheads! \m/

Equivalence is maybe the best album Intro EVER. Absolutely amazing.

The duration of these two songs perfectly fit the amount of time it'd take me to walk to the Gym. Perfect for acquiring one's "game face". 🤘

Insomnium are just horns in the air EPIC! Let's face it, how many bands are there out there in the world who delivers pure unadulterated melodeath.

Certainly I haven't heard all melodic death metal bands, but I guess Insomnium is on front of the track when it comes to *melodic* :). They truly are amazing.

I just bought this and I must say: they're AMAZING. Great musicians, great music, great cover art... simply awesome, worth every penny of it!

rohamica: yes, there is a lot of metal bands and new still coming out. But that's good because this forces them to try creating something fresh and unique, and Insoimnium definitely does that.

On two occasions music has brought a tear to my eyes. My first time was hearing a piece by Liszt. My second time was at the 1:49 minute mark of Equivalence.

Saw Insomnium live yesterday...Amazing, I loved them.

Insomnium is so confusing to me... I'm trying so hard to love them, but I guess the fact that they are called melodeath instead of atmospheric metal makes me expect something different.. They're just SO unique xD and awesome.. and epicly beautiful... Oh look at that I've come to love them \m/!!!

Personally I love the vocals, its called melo-death for a reason. Amazing band and its so hard to explain but it does not sound depressed and sad like how so called a ehem "emo teenager" might feel. This kind of music reminds me of the meloncholy and sadness of almost the middle-ages.

@BlueShark45 Agreed. Metallica changed the game in their time, pushed metal forward, opened up the doors for kids to get into heavy music. However, they lost their spark, and other bands took the reigns.
