In this video, I remove the drive-train covers and inspect the shuttle clutch, gearbox and final drive on a 1968 CASE 580 CK tractor. This is the first time the covers have been off in more than 15 years. This is an essential check before I ever start the tractor and try to drive it. Let's take a look !

You should go through the brakes on your tractor next, not that my 68 Case desperately needs a brake job and I would love to see how its done before I do it. lol :)

Oh yes, I'll get right on that. HA HA Until then you can check out a brake job done on a 580CK by Heliarche. Here it is: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mErTRrIJtD4.html

@@EverydayProjects Nice, thank you. Do you have a good place to buy parts for your 68 580ck? :)
@EverydayProjects
@EverydayProjects 3 года назад
@@KoalityofLife I don't have a favorite parts place for these. But I have bought a few parts from "Rare Electric" on eBay: www.rareelectrical.com/ and I bought a water pump pulley from a place called MINNPAR www.minnpar.com/index.aspx. Yesterday's Tractor has parts too: www.yesterdaystractors.com/ Post on this thread anybody who knows where to buy parts for the older Case Models like the 580CK and580B Thanks!

I appreciate your detailed video. I am inspecting the clutch, transmission, and differential on the 580CK that I bought and have drained the oils that were over half water. Could you tell me if the oil I replace in the clutch resevoir will also service the the unit with the pistons that changes the tractor from forward to reverse with the lever on the left of the steering wheel or would that be a separate ressevoir that I have to drain and refill. Thanks.

Mine is a '68 and the torque tube has a common sump that supplies the wet clutch, and shuttle clutch, plus the pump for circulating clutch and shuttle oil. It takes universal tractor fluid. The manual gearbox and final drive are separate and take gear oil like 80w90.

Hi! Thanks for your videos. I have a Case 320, which has similar components. I am totally new to working on tractors and mechanics in general. What thickness is the gasket paper you used?
@EverydayProjects
@EverydayProjects 2 года назад
I bought a package of mixed gasket paper from Amazon, but Napa or any parts store should have some. I think it was 1/16 thick.

I have the same machine got it at a good deal but the shuttle valve is pushing oil out of the breather more so when I try to go to reverse . I think it is something going on with the valve gasket and yes someone has been into it before . Any suggestions?
@EverydayProjects
@EverydayProjects 3 года назад
I would take the valve off and have a look at the gasket (and replace it). The videos I've posted should get you through that job. Look on my channel and you'll find three different videos about the process of cleaning out the shuttle clutch control valve and re-installing it. If the valve gasket isn't correct, it could be blocking proper flow. I've included the links here too: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xh0N1opBmdQ.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cTtPWycwe-w.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-voG0vWlObe4.html Thanks for watching! Also, you may have the incorrect fluid in the shuttle clutch. Make sure you have a good quality Universal tractor fluid in the sump (not in the engine ). I'm using Shell Rotella HD universal tractor fluid. If you have any doubt about what to use, contact a tractor supply store. Some owners swear that the only fluid they'll use is CASE TCH or HY-TRAN ULTRA (both expensive). Look for a fluid that meets Case TCH equivalent. Rotella HD meets that specification and is much less expensive than the others. Shell Rotella HD Tractor Fluid is also recommended for use in Case equipment where fluids meeting MS 1207, 1209 or 1210 are specified.

Can you replace the clutch from that case cover? My clutch is almost out of its adjustment range so I have a feeling I might need to put a new clutch in it eventually. Thanks :)
@EverydayProjects
@EverydayProjects 3 года назад
If you have a manual clutch or the shuttle clutch (that I have), you'll have to split the tractor to get at either (unless there is some adjustment for a manual clutch that you can do on the linkages). I haven't split one of these but it doesn't look extremely bad. Just a heavy, detailed process. There are some videos on RU-vid of splitting a tractor.
@KoalityofLife
@KoalityofLife 3 года назад
@@EverydayProjects I have adjusted the linkage but its almost at the end of adjustment. I have the forward and reverse shifter on the left side of the steering wheel along with the stick and a high low range selector that I dont see on your tractor. I was just hoping there was an easier way to replace the clutch other than splitting the tractor. Thanks :)
@EverydayProjects
@EverydayProjects 3 года назад
@@KoalityofLife There is an easier way...drop off the tractor and have a shop do it while you wait for it in Mexico! Haha. Not an option, Ok, I understand.
@KoalityofLife
@KoalityofLife 3 года назад
@@EverydayProjects Hahaha. I wish. Maybe if my channel ever grows I can afford to have someone else work on my stuff, or maybe I just buy a new tractor at that point. lol :)

please explain the gas paddle function ,I have one not moving at all on 580ck gas engine.
@EverydayProjects
@EverydayProjects 3 года назад
What you'll have to do is follow the linkages beneath the gas pedal all the way to the carburator. Use a penetrating oil like PB Blaster or WD-40 and soak each connection along that path. Work the pedal back and forth until you get movement. Once you free up the linkages, make sure to oil the joints and grease any of the pivots for the linkage behind the steering column. Good Luck!

Were the oil levels at actual operating level?
@EverydayProjects
@EverydayProjects 2 года назад
I think so. This tractor sat for many years and the levels may have dropped from slow leaks, but so long as the lowest gears sit in oil the rolling action lubricates them all. I don’t know the actual level required but it’s a good question.

Might sound dumb but does the transmission and clutch run off the same fluid in the arms or is there a separate spot it gets its fluid from?

I have a 79' 580ck same set up the line was leaking at the bottom of the radiator and now i have no forward or reverse? Any help would b appreciated
@EverydayProjects
@EverydayProjects 3 года назад
There is no such thing as a dumb question, only dumb answers. The shuttle clutch takes a "Universal Tractor Fluid" such as Rotella HD or Hy-Tran. The manual transmission takes standard gear oil like you would put in a differential or any other manual gearbox, like 80W90 (except not Automatic transmission fluid, like in some modern manual transmissions). Thanks for asking and for watching!
