Looking at GN 3 Have you got a typo @30:47, Power point states Zs of 1.75 for a 16 A Type B Should that not be either a 20 A BS EN 60898 or the Figures Changed to match?

Yes he has the wrong figures I noticed that, figures for a type C 20A

thankyou for this I agree on Zs readings I work on a marina and we were recently tested and after some investigation as we couldn't get a Zs even though dead test good as was Ze. Tracked to a fault on a boat with the vessel unplugged Zs good eventually tracked to oven and water heater timer each leaking 20ma to earth even stranger all rcbo s and rcd tested fine

@50:48 Interesting that your talking about measuring short circuit currents for final circuits, I've only ever measured it at DB's and switch boards. The test form in BS7671 doesn't have a column for this info , though. Maybe the next amendment could address this, as theres not c column for r1+rn either.

just looking at this, and in OSG, table B6, 16A type B zs is 2.2, or have I cocked up.

Tybe b 16a 2.15 table A4 OSG

@@sulphuroxide1 at 31:00 he says its 1.75 is this not wrong? Your value is correct. Its 2.15 for a 16a breaker type b, he’s got the value of a 20a in the video.

I spent 20 odd minutes looking through the O.S.G and G.N3 and was confused as to where the figure was pulled from. Happy to know I wasn't the only one.

Love these videos, very informative and the delivery is second to none. It makes understanding the calculations a lot simpler even though they could be considered relatively difficult. One small observation was the example at 57:07. Were using a 32A type C RCBO, however at 58:39 were using a current/time graph for a type B. It doesn't effect the overall outcome as it in fact makes the outcome worse. Roughly 20-21 seconds until tipping instead of the stated 17. I am wondering if you take ambient temperature readings during EIRCs and do you state the temperature on your Schedule of Test Results?
@brewertonpaul

@ 41:46 How come we are permitted to have a higher Zs when the ambient temperature increases? I would have thought it was the other way round..

Its assumed that copper (in the cable) will increase in temperature and therefore the cable impedance will also increase , a type B MCB will trip (instantaneously 0.1 S) at 5 times its rated current , so if we assume 1.37 ohms will trip it on a 70C cable , at 10C only 1.1 ohms would be the maximum needed to trip in the required time

11:20 damn right, this is just a myth. Every time we ring distributor they don't even know what earthing arrangement for that property is, including Ze, all they say is 'landlord should know it'. Bollocks. It's all just a myth.
