The Inspiration Box idea is genius. I know some people say "I could buy all that for less than the subscription" but then I never thought of painting a resin bust, let alone know what paints would work together, so being supplied the head, six paints and a set of brushes was great, having a supporting set of video tutorials was superb. And I'm sure is the same for figure painters presented with aircraft to make, or the most recent Miniart tractor with some rust effect powders, all techniques I can migrate to my own model making. I love it.
Great to see real people, past the web site as it were. Now when you talk of James Skiffens I will have an image in my mind. Looks like he has a well organised outfit there. Well done Gary. On the subject of accurate colour matching historical colours it must be very difficult given that most of the surviving samples have weathered a lot so they probably don't look quite the same as when they were new. No wonder there are differing opinions.
I must admit I bought the yellow and white outlaw paints last week to try them,I specifically bought these as they're notorious for being hard to lay down, I tried it over black base , 2 coats ...it covered fantastic, I'm impressed
Best wishes to James and Spruebox for a successful future! [YT dumped my original comment so let's have another go :)] One thing I immediately like about James is how friendly and approachable he appears, and it comes across as genuine so no doubt he is with everyone not just people he knows. The Inspiration Boxes are a great idea! Not only do they introduce modellers to genres not 'in their wheelhouse' but also /techniques/ which they may not know of which can be employed / adapted in their usual area. Also there is a huge variety which I do like too :) Being a conduit for new / obscure companies when Spruebox themselves are still pretty new is a great idea too as they can share experiences of how to grow companies, for example you may have expertise another company lacks, and vice-versa. Outlaw Paints seem great. It seems that costs can be saved in two ways - less coats /and/ skipping the gloss varnish layer for decals. Vital in the current 'cost of living crisis'. Gary, if you have time, could you do a comparison video of different paint manufacturers' coverage for the same number of coats?
I met this guy at Teford and bought 5 early war RAF one being a black and one interior green he does know his stuff and he's willing to talk no matter how busy he is and that stand was very busy well done Gary nice interview 👍
Especially if you are across the pond, treats us like we were there in the booth or just around the corner, with individual attention you deserve. I have zero hesitation in any business I do with Mr Skiffins and Spruebox. Every interaction has been an absolute pleasure because it's all worked out, even when I run my kit over and insist on purchasing the replacement 😁. Cuz ya, I'm such a difficult customer 😂🤣. Always a pleasure doing business with Spruebox and looking forward to many more 👍☕🐢
Im not sure but paints cant be shipped to ioverseas ndividual address...would love to try Outlaw paints but im in Ireland and he can't ship paints here.
@@garys_stuffi did send him an email a few weeks ago and told me that due to uk govt regulations concerning paint he can't ship paints international.
Thanks to everyone for their replies, very helpful 😊 I wish you all the best James, for helping to add to the modelling community. It’s takes a bit of guts in these times to go into business! Ian
