You know, it's a pleasure to see a realistic approach. Both to song writing and having Mark Tremonti's feedback on the process. Giving credit to other influential players and musicians who inspire but also provide a basis for learning / creativity.

I LOVED this! The interviewer was really cool & has that UK charm that encourages and enhances good conversation. Next time you guys do a Mark Tremonti interview let him play guitar and show us mostly cool guitar patterns and exercises and even ways to invent your own guitar tunings for the majority of the video. For me Tremonti is the best player of the 2000’s for sure. Blackbird (Alter Bridge), the 1st two Creed Albums, and all the Tremonti band albums are my favorites of his. I love his tip about finding a rhythm pattern you’re comfortable with and chords you dig and just start singing and trying ideas. That’s one of the best song writing tips I’ve ever heard. Another favorite thing of mine I learned from a guitar mag in a Steve Vai column from Vai is to just sing the notes of a song you like that you’re trying to learn and playing by ear and being in key will come way more easy and faster than not. It puts the sound in your head. I used to take lessons from an awesome jazz fusion and shred metal guitarist who could literally turn on anything monster guitarists like Joe Pass and Zakk Wylde did and play it right back right there on the spot. That was mind blowing to watch. One of that guys tips was to not only sing the notes of songs you want to learn like Steve Vai taught but to hum along with your scales, arpeggios, riffs, and patterns and get that inside your head. It really helped me a lot as a player. Tremonti is so spot on when he said there’s so many great players and cool stuff out here to learn that an individual will most likely never learn it all. The best we can do is just find stuff we really love, pair it with technology ,and just run with it man. Technology with all the DAWs, Apps, etc. makes this all way more fun than it used to be too (DAWs beat the hell out of a Tascam 4 Tea I like when I first started playing, that’s for sure). It’s literally endless possibilities as a musician constantly learning and creating and that in itself (if you REALLY think about it) is awesome!

I liked the heavier Creed songs but didn't care for Alter Bridge. Then I bought Tremonti's first self-titled album. It is hands down the best riff CD I've ever heard, and the songs themselves are all fantastic. After buying his next few self-produced albums I went back to Alter Bridge and couldn't believe I didn't like them at first. Such a great, great player.

I've always enjoyed Alter Bridge, saw them live at the House of Blues when they were promoting "One Day Remains" they had such a small following at that stage of launching Alter Bridge, but WOW they blew the roof off that place!!! It was a small but explosive show! My personal fave album is "Blackbird", blew my mind when I gave that CD a full listen

Why do you think One Day Remains didn't grab you back then? I loved Creed and to me One Day Remains was like hearing the next Creed CD except with a new singer who was amazing and Tremonti had locked himself away for a couple years and practiced his ass off and can all of a sudden shred. Which i think is pretty much what happened.

I knew very little of Mark Tremonti until I visited Sweetwater in 2016. The only thing that I knew about him was he was the guitar player in Creed and they had some songs I liked. When I visited Sweetwater they had his PRS model guitar and I tried it. It was the best feeling, playing and most beautiful guitar I have ever handled. I brought it home and played it daily. That neck profile is perfect. Due to two ruptured disc in my lower back the weight of it became to much after a few years and I couldn’t justify letting a instrument that great simply hang on a stand. As hard as it was to let go of I had to sell it to someone who would put it to use. That guitar was so great I decided to try his PRS MT15. That is a great amp. The best little amp I have ever heard or played. This guy has great taste in gear. Through all this I became familiar with his playing. He just keeps getting better and better. If you ever get the opportunity try out his guitar don’t hesitate. Everybody that played my Tremonti fell in love with it.They are fantastic and consistently all the same. Any gear I see with his name on I will try it out first due to the superiority of his guitar and amp. Great stuff.

He was chosen songwriter of the year twice. Back then I knew Jack shit (nowadays I just kinda know Jill shit) about music and I was like "IDK what it is but I totally agree because all his songs just effortlessly move me. His compositions are so playfully accessible it's like he just sprinkles in impossible technique and unpredictable movements just to be like 'yurp I can do that.'" I wish he'd try his hand at like film composing or something, imagine if they tapped him to score spider man into the spiderverse. Or mad max fury road holy shit

I remember starting to learn guitar in the early 90s. Creed was one of my big influences but mostly just because of his riffs and melodies. Over the years i could always pick him out among a million before even seeing or knowing it was Mark. As other creed albums came out and then alter bridge his riffs and melodies and overall writing in general always grabbed me. In a way i kinda used learning some of songs as milestones in my progress. Your a true master of the craft Mr Tremonti and thanks for the inspiration and drive.
