On Wednesday, September 15 at 8:02 p.m. EDT, 00:02 UTC on September 16, SpaceX’s Falcon 9 successfully launched the Inspiration4 mission - the world’s first all-civilian human spaceflight to orbit - from historic Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Approximately three days after liftoff, Dragon and the crew of Inspiration4 will splash down at one of several possible landing sites off the Florida coast. Follow Dragon’s journey in the tracker above as the Inspiration4 crew orbits Earth approximately every 90 minutes.
Inspiration4 is commanded by Jared Isaacman, founder and CEO of Shift4 Payments and an accomplished pilot and adventurer. Joining him are Medical Officer Hayley Arceneaux, a physician assistant at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® and pediatric cancer survivor; Mission Specialist Chris Sembroski, an Air Force veteran and aerospace data engineer; and Mission Pilot Dr. Sian Proctor, a geoscientist, entrepreneur, and trained pilot.

Words cannot simply describe how flawless and routine this looks. From the suit up, checkouts, even layout of the live webcast, the presentation, the Futurama black/white interior and exterior of their facilities, their Tesla, even that editing with the music in the intro... SpaceX is truly the 21st century private space company doing the impossibles

Elon Musk is supernatural & probably laughing at NASA deepdown. Hes successfully launched 127 missions in only 11 years compared to NASA having only 72 successful launches over 71yrs from 1958- now. FYI. NASAs online stats of having over 200 launches include the 127 from SpaceX.

Yes I understand the comment. But there is nothing to take away from Richard Bransons achievement. In that case it isnt the short time close to space that is important, It IS the technique of getting to space that IS important. The media are too stupid to understand the significance of Richards technique, to be able to launch into ANY orbit frim Anywhere in the world that an aircraft can take-off from, with minimal cost and less weather constraintts and with just ATC rather than spacial exclusion zones. Virgin Galactic and SpaceX are very different and cant be equated like that. Bezos however is a total prat and in many respects (apart from wealth) a failure.

I watched the launch from my back yard here in Florida. Most of the launches I see are during the day, so I see the first stage flight for a time, but then it's soon lost in the bright blue sky. Tonight, with the sun down and a clear sky, I watched the first stage fly until the engines winked out, and then a moment later the second stage burst alight. It looked like a shooting star racing across the sky toward the horizon. I admit, I shed a few tears. Inspiration was definitely the right name for this mission. Godspeed to all those aboard.

I watched Mercury, I watched Gemini, I watched Apollo and Neil Armstrong on the moon, I watched most of the Shuttle missions. This flight is special, Space X being a private funded startup, reusing hardware (I never tire of watching the Falcon 9 ace landings), manned missions to the Space station and now ordinary people, not professional government employed astronauts, going into orbit. Its the stuff of worthy goals and dreams. Thank you Elon for dreaming big, betting the farm and pulling all of this off. I just wish I was younger and could be part of it.

Just blows my mind. I have yet to see the footage but I can still remember the days prior to launching rockets into space, the difficulty of it all, and now companies, piggin companies are doing it as though just a matter of routine, and SpaceX is amazing as to what it has achieved by one man's vision, employing the vision of others, to have that vision come true. There is no way that man will step on Mars this century, but preparations I suppose will go ahead to make it possible.
