In spirituality, grace and effort go together. On wings of grace and effort, the bird of the soul flies higher and higher. With the grace of the Lord, one meets a true Guru and obtains initiation from him. The true Guru showers immense grace on the disciple at the time of initiation. From then on, the disciple must put in persistent effort towards the meditation practice. Just as hard work is essential in our worldly tasks and duties, so it is in meditation. This task is ours to complete. Similarly, just as every worldly task requires time and attention, so too does our spiritual practice.
