I'm sorry for the obligatory "I hate to be that guy," but...I hate to be that guy. The Balanced input and output is actually just there for convenience. It's not true balanced. This is a kind of tube amp called a SET (single-ended triode) amp. Basically, it is to tube amps what Class A is to solid states. This happens to be so expensive because the quality of the components used to combat the downsides of the SET amp (mainly second order distortion, low output of power and high output resistance.) This one is unusual in that it is so damn clean, relatively low output impedance (like 17 ohms,) and is so heavily affected by what tubes are used with it. Changing the tubes can change the sound radically, especially the big tube. The default one that comes with it is actually trash, and paying $15 more for a better tube ends up increasing the performance wildly. Anyway, when I say it isn't a true balanced amp, I don't mean that the signal doesn't come out balanced. The amp actually converts even a single-ended signal to a balanced one internally and outputs it as balanced. But since it doesn't go in balanced, it's not really a "truly balanced" amp.

Never listened to a tube amp. I currently got two cans including the Neumanns. Thinking to make this my first tube experience.

Dennis signs all his amps. Even the lower prices firebottle set tube amps. He sell quiet a few of them on ebay. This is all hand built quantity stuff. You should open up the bottom of that amp and you will see what quality work and components are inside. By the way this is made by the legendary dennis had who was the founder of Cary audio. He makes great stuff😀

Zeos, some other great headphone amps for the money which you might consider reviewing in the future: Hagerman Audio Labs Tuba EL 34 , 10 year transferable factory warranty, $650 delivered price; also Eufonika Audio from Poland makes several very nice headphone amplifiers starting at about $400. Decided to pick up one of these. The BHCrack I bought has some issues. So... in the meantime I'll listen to this. First listen with Drop/Sennheiser 8xx. Really clean. Also, quiet for a tube. Using stock tubes, but I'm shopping. I swear I'm worse that a gal in a shoe store on sale day.

It is a terrific amp. I don’t understand why it isn’t that popular or well known. It is still state of the art. Dennis Had is a genius.

I'm probably a few years older than you I've been around the audio game for a long time and I'm set up systems people can afford high-end people who can't my idea of a good system something that sounds good to me and that I haven't spent enough money to pay a couple of months of mortgage payments that's my idea of a good system I also like Vintage equipment I restore it I bring it back to its original condition so it operates the way it's supposed to the way it did when it came out of the factory sometimes even better that's my idea of a good system something that sounds good I've even looks good something that I didn't spend enough money I could have paid 3 to 4 months of mortgage payments I don't know just call me floogals but other things are more important if you have the money 2 waist on this stuff find do it God bless you but at least show us some other options people who did not make a few hundred thousand dollars a year the everyday Joe you know what I mean

I like the thing with using a tube to solid state amp for a homemade hybrid. Could I feed a bottlehead crack into a Magni Piety? I did find a thread on hifi guides about this amp but not used as a hybrid.
