I agree completely! The Mary-el was the best--my favorite--until the second edition. The changes to the High Priestess, Hierophant, and the Three of Swords completely ruined the deck for me. I was excited to purchase a second edition but...not now, never. Those compromises were to appease the RWS (only) crowd. Ugh. Bad decisions, in my opinion.

@@TheCJCarl I don't mind them so much but would have preferred to have them as additional cards. I guess the creators never please everyone :)

@@tarotmap So after seeing other reviews, my position is solidified. Mary-El was my soul deck. Maybe that explains my rant. The new High Priestess looks like a really poorly drawn 90s Dungeons & Dragons cartoon--or caricature. Just horrible. Every change just saddens me. I can't explain how much this ruined the deck for me. Her original interpretations were unique and resonated deeply with me. Yes, including the newer images as alternate versions would have been ... okay, I suppose. At least I could then have thrown those newer cards OUT (in the trash). I hope ordering the first edition is still possible. I have one first edition I never opened -- thank goodness.

Oh, I just wanted to say that I'm super excited about Marie publishing a full length book about this deck at some point! I would love to read all the extensive stuff that she had to remove from the Shiffer guidebook because it feels like that guidebook is so incomplete and doesn't do the deck justice. Thank you Marie for letting us know that you had to condense it so much, it makes a lot of sense!

I had never considered publishing anything with all the different paintings and sketches. Maybe in the future! I get asked about the sketch deck a lot - I might do a new edition of that...maybe even along with some new writings. Thanks for asking and the suggestion! I'll seriously think about the sketch deck.

Hi Kyleiz, I spent months researching and thikning. Some paintings went quickly, maybe a few days or a week but some I painted over and over and some were just physically slow, like the 5s had so much detail, each one took a few weeks just detailing snakes, feathers etc.. That seems fitting for the 5s.
